  1. I'd be surprised if you don't have an ordinance survey map of your surrounding area than you could put a cross on (in pencil!!) to mark roughly where you put it then once your looking in the right place you ought to remember. Or, as said, use natural markers such as sticks, rocks, small insignificant piles of leaves or suchlike.

    ASHES

    Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
  4. Define "taking the piss" ya drunken b*****d
  5. All right, cheers. And yes, I realise that 1m cubed won't keep a fire going all winter, but my house is warmed by central heating, but I would like to have a small firewood store as good, dependable firewood would come in handy for various things. Thanks for the input guys
  6. I am planning on building my own firewood store, big enough to have about a cubic meter of wood. I reckon I can design and make one out of wood that comes to mind and a tarp, but I thought I'd ask on here to see if there's anything that's decent: google came up with nowt.
  7. Nah, buzzards have rounded, almost semi-circle tails, not forks like kites. Another thing that can distinguish red kites is that do the birds have 'fingers'? Kites are identified, when in the air, by their five or so (on each wing) 'fingers' and two forked tail. Whilst buzzards don't have these 'fingers' (well, they do, but they're so short that you can't really distinguish them except through bins), and their tail is (as shown) like a semicircle Look at illustration two in the top right. Oh, and listen to the red kite call (in archie's link)
  8. Oo, I take that back: raining quite heavily now, I was just about to zero my rifle as well Sorry, apparently I'm mistaken: it's sunny again!
  9. Oo, I take that back: raining quite heavily now, I was just about to zero my rifle as well And lurchergrrl, we get that a lot here ... as if my house is in the middle of two separate weather dimensions very odd.
  10. We had a sudden downpur a few hours ago, although it is currently sunny, but with very dark grey clouds looming in the sky above.
  11. Alright cheers, was mostly the red that threw me off, but if you've reared them I reckon you have slightly more knowledge on the subject than me Thanks again mate.
  12. Yeah I agree that it's young but it doesn't look at all like common pheasant adults, in my opinion ... but I doubt you guys are wrong, it's just that the younguns I've seen, and the adults, neither look like this one. Ah well, thanks.
  13. My dog (non-working) caught a bird in the garden much to my mum's dismay: it had been hiding in the bushes and so when we let him out he found it and ran around the garden celebrating his kill (it has a broken neck). But me nor what I can think to google can identify it. So I was wondering if you guys could help. By the way, the only thing I can think of is a red grouse, but the markings on the wing dont match with pics I've seen. Thanks all the same.
  14. Well done on the permission, although if it borders your school, you won't be able to call in "sick"
  15. am not sure that wolves do attack people unless they have no option ie are starving. I am sure I have read somewhere years ago that there was no recorded incident in north america of a healthy wolf attacking a human. I may be wrong though. Yes, you are almost certainly correct. However, you know how our media is, and you know how the general population is when regarding anything that isn't paper, concrete or shiny Yeah totally agree, all it would take is some numpty to see one while out walking, say they felt scared and a public/media would be immense. atb Yeah; there'd be mobs,

  17. It would be very interesting, very cool, but unfortunately, in my opinion, the possible cons outweigh the pros. I know this is just the health and safety part of our society talking, but the few people a year that would be killed would make the media make travelling to that part of country so fearsome that you could not go there for the life of you. Which would be a big shame...
  18. Phantom, was using that fly sticky paper stuff (that attracts then sticks 'em) illegal in that sport...?
  19. Not at all, was very interesting and completely true, tis a shame how so many words are losing their 'strength' mainly due to over (and futile) use, for example most 'swear words' used to make a crowd gasp (or so I am told ) and so would have a lot of impact. But now? Now you could say it to a policemen and receive a grin and a similar 'compliment'. Aaaanyway...
  20. OOooOO. Interesting...but how can you identify it from the list below, all of which look quite similar (just dug out a plant book - hadn't heard of groundnuts before): Cow parsley, Ground Elder, Hemlock (ish), wild carrot, and hogweed (ish). Now most of those I wouldn't be able to use any of it, and once dug up to check for the illusive pig nut a lot of the plants may die, plus Hemlock is poisonous although looks quite different... Help please Oh, and any recipes (simple )?
  21. Don't be cruel. Don't lengthen the animals' pain. Killing it is one thing, but needless agony then killing is a complete other. Obviously sometimes that simply will be unavoidable in a particular situation, but you try to dispatch them as soon as possible, it's like why the law on checking snares and traps every twelve hours (I think) is a good law.
  22. That was very impressive, thanks for linking
