  1. Na mate i wouldn't stop feeding rabbits because of sharp bones ect as dogs are geared up to crunch and digest these, they have the tools in their mouth with jaw power, and in the stomach they have the acid in the gut to digest it.You would be depriving yer dogs of some of the best feeding you can give them in my opinion. As for yer pup, just keep a eye on it incase it tries to bolt it down at first, but after a bit it should workout that there should'nt be no threat from your other dogs stealing its dinner it should relax a bit and eat it at a more slowly, less chance of any problems .
  2. A big for everybody who sticks to their guns on the raw feeding with their ferrets and THEIR DOGS but wouldn't it be a tad hypacritical of someone to preach about raw feeding and put down the dry feeders of ferrets if they were to only turn round and admit that they feed their dogs on (this work of the devil ) dry feed ?
  3. Right heres one for all you 100% raw feeders.............. does everybody that believes that 100% raw is the only sutible diet for the ferrets believe that working dogs should be fed the same ie no dry meal ? not directed at the raw and dry feeders more for the hardcore raw feeders,i ask this out of curiosity as i respect everybodies opinion on feeding their own animals oh and if you dont have a dog but you did would you feed them the same ?
  4. Id say mammal rather than a bird.........i know mostly all of the lambing is past now but it does look like a black lamb from the second picture ?
  5. Any of you lads or lassies give your lurchers any special conditioning with their nails, not the obvious clipping to keep them down if their not getting enough road work. The reason im asking is after talking to a old greyhound man the other morning while walking my lurchers,he advises giving their nails a wee file to strengthen them making them less brittle and helping with any probs with cracking and splitting ect.He told me to pop in to his kennels when passing and he will give me a demonstration with one of his own greyhounds. Whats peoples opinions of this and does anybody give their runne

    Some b*****d

A phone call to the old bill would be a better option and ask them to keep a eye on your place at night as flying outside like rambo with a big feck-off knife could end in disaster for you but a even better option surley would be a big rough type of a man staying over to make you feel all safe and secure
  10. On hindsight after reading back my post,i admit i might of come over quite a bit aggresive and pompus about ditchy and his groupies for that i apoligies to anybody i offended. But surley its all about opinions and what has worked for people in the past, when it comes to lurchers and ferrets........both ive kept and worked for most of my life ive fed a lot of flesh to both, proberly at least 3/4 of their diet but ive never shunned a quality dried meal as it can be convienent at times when your low on meat ect.Now through these years ive never kept a unhealthy dog or ferret and through these
  11. im beginning to understand why you've all but given up fella! it's obvious from their posts these folk think alot of their ferrets yet persist in feeding this shite to them regularly wtf! Right this might prove controversial on here as ditch shitter is a well respected fella on here,i too enjoy his posts aswell.................but what gives him the final say as to what is the perfect diet for a healthy long-lived ferret ? is it the fact he has degrees and the like on the subject making him some kind of expert in his field ? or is he just the same as me and others on this site who h
  12. Feed a lot of flesh mainly in the through the colder weather but feed a fair bit of dry meal (chudleys) through the hotter weather.I have two jills here (mother and daughter) who are 6 and 7 years old which are first class workers on bunnies and rats and will still be worked this year, also like all my other ferrets they are in peak cond although they tend be a bit heavy on the dried meal but i put this down to the close season as they take the weight off when their back at work.So could someone please explain this phenomenon to me if dried meal is so bad for them !!!
  13. I got one.. .. Millet You do millet ? has it acheived this just the once or every other week but seriously it must be a fine dog you have there mate and how does it fair on the big rabbits ?
  14. 100 rabbits on the lamp, that would be some dog and in the same token it would need a experienced dog man with the beam too. By this i mean, knowing what coneys to pick out on the beam to be run by the dog especially as the night went on nearing the magic number of 100 as the wonder dog would be nearing exhaustion but also the dog would need a gee up to run so many rabbits without getting soured by all the runs and effort it would need to put in,so it would be a fine balance of giving enough rest between runs and keeping the dog keen with enough momentum on the night in question. Could it b
  15. I would take the 6 out 6 hare dog myself, sell the fecker to the highest bidder for a lot of £££'s and make do with my own lamping dogs sorted

  18. WHY! did you have to put your jill to sleep ? maybe its just me but i dont see why from your thread it had to be put to sleep.......was it ill ? or did it become ill ? ect
  19. Yep good thread, even although it was started by a guy thats got a thing for big sweaty men in tight shorts and lycra with dodgey tashies but the way i see it is know what you want your dog to do, eg whippet for deer deerhound for rabbits but swaped around ,then buy a pup from proven workers which are well reared then its upto yourselve. Feed, train and enter them right and you shouldn't be far away from a dog that makes the grade for yourselve, not anybody else as the dog should make you pleased not anybody else

  22. Just wondering about this as if i dont need more ferrets myself i never take them out of season with a snipped hob or jag ect, i just leave them until they come out on their own with no health issues like infections or long term cancers ect. So whats peoples opinions of fussing over a jill needing to be took out of season because of health issues ? FACT OR MYTH ? Cheers Gary
