  4. Hate when the dreaded myxi reers its ugly head usually during the milder weather but when your bringing on a young pup it can be blessing in disguise
  5. A GOOD DOG WASTED IN MY OPINION!!!!!
  6. I can see where some people are coming from about running four dogs ect,but you have to hand it to the arabs when it comes to salukis, their masters of their breed of running dog producing some smashing dogs on the back of thousand of years of selective breeding and proberly using the same schooling of their dogs passed down through generations, how many out there would turn their noses up at having the chance to own a arab bred saluki
  7. Yep got to agree the hare on the first clip was a good hare,i think it would,ve tested many a good hare dog given a decent slip Some good watching there Frank, good on ya sir

    HOUNDS & COYOTE.

Not my type of hunting, ive never liked the laughing brigade and the gloating towards the quarry before its been dispatched, rather see it done quickly and as humanly as possible. This is the way ive been shown and taught when i started out as a nipper,"if you hunt you should always show respect to what you kill at all times"was the words drumed into me back then, and this is the words i would pass on to anybody starting out now

    Dog Feet

not sure if i agree with larger/stronger feet as in perhaps theres more to get knocked up, always ran fell collie grey x bedlington grey medium sized but strong tight feet, if conditioned correctly. never had foot problems only sore pads if run off course onto tarmac roads on odd ocasion. all the best y.i.s Thousands of years of selection has developed large thickly padded, well boned feet on all the rough ground running dogs Saluki's, Afghans, Taigan, Pharoah hounds, Ibizan hounds etc. I'm inclined to believe there is reason for it. I blame todays racing greyhounds for the weakn
  10. I allways give mine a good talking to just before we go out ,telling them just what we are after, and what we are not ,thats me in the clear then as far as Im concerned. does it work ?

  14. Oops sorry,i thought we were talking sighthounds
  15. It depends on three things really whitser, firstly and most importantly it depends on how competent a dog trainer you are, by this i mean how well your dog responds to STAY,NO or LEAVE. Secondly the type of cross and how fired up your dog is a factor aswell, and by this i mean a collie cross is obviosly going to be more biddable than say a saluki ect. Thirdly it will depend on how far your dogs work out in front of you but that proberly goes back to how competent a dog trainer you are i suppose.........hope this helps and good luck whitser
  16. Some smashing pictures there lass, but for me the terriers stole the show hands down Good on ya Molly,a good day out with your pack by looks of it

    HARES.

Most dogs ive had haven,t been all out daytime hare dogs but ive caught a few from early slips and being hunted up by my dogs,so when there on the lamp it kinds of evens things up a bit. But as said earlier lamped hares can sometimes take a bit of catchin, well for my mutts anyway but this said i like to see a good daytime course with two evenly matched animals out in open ground, nothing like it to get the old heart pumping So i didnt answer to day or night as i,ll take them anyway i can with my lurchers but not at this time of the year mind
  19. Scotty get yourself to your local or nearest greyhound track and ask about for a good foot vet down there, these boys are people you want to talk to.Theres some decent vets in practise when it comes to toe injuries ect but most are no better than competent, all the best mate and good luck with your pup pal
  20. Should try airgunbbs, you should find one on there mate, like yourself im a big fan of these guns myself The mercury was my first air rifle back in yonder years, took plenty with it myself as a nipper.Best breakbarrel springer in its day in my opinion as the hw,s were even heavier back then, being a weedy young un
  21. Just retired a beddie first cross dog two weeks ago,now with my parents to spend the rest of his days being pampered as a pet,he is about 23 inch and his running weight was a shade over 40lbs.The dog was worked on a lot of rough hill ground and the only damage to his feet was a knocked up toe on rabbits on a golfcourse!!!

    SUCH A SITE.

Thats a handy looking pack of grafters youve got there frank
  23. I wouldnt discourage your pup from using its nose mate,a good nose on a lurcher is a bonus not a fault to get him looking more towards them bunnies you can see,get him on a slip and get yourself down to his eye level, then show him them with a point towards them with a word of ecouragement or a "pssssst".When the bunnies are on the move he,ll see them. Then after a bit and repeating this a few times in futre when you give him the command of psssst he,ll start looking, you can be sure of that
