Good post this and going with the different opinions, everybody has their different methods of getting their dogs fit and keeping them fit, which i had a hunch this would be the case when this thread first appeared but what no-one has yet to mention yet is decent rest between running them hard or even when your putting them through their paces when getting them fit for the start of the season,i think watching them for signs of fatigue and stiffness ect and not pushing them too hard especially too soon as every dog has their breaking point no matter how fit they are, can be just as beneficial t

Oh i dunno so much..........look im not looking for a argument here but i think sometimes a lot of people are too pc about things as im thinking there will be more animals slaughtered this way around the world than in our well run, sterile clean slaughterhouses, not all people have the facilities to stunn a animal before it gets the old capt and bolt ect, which is run like a well oiled machine. Animals have been slaugtered for millenia by man for food and skins ect,and now for a reasonably short space of time we have a tried and tested way of killing with minimal stress (which i think is a go

See i missed the begining of this so im presuming mister angry was trying to pass himself off as the ferreter/rabbit catcher ect after reading some posts on here.........SCARY SHIT THIS as you will prob find your average joe in the big smog watching this last night will think every fecker with ferrets and dogs ect should be stereotyped against this nut-job,i can hear them now saying "their all the same this lot, enjoy killing so you shouldn't be suprised with his unstable out-bursts,scum the lot of them" oh and please tell me he wasn't trying to claim that big wolfhound thingy was catching r

Bedlington Whippet/Bedlington Greyhound
gaz replied to TerrierLad's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
In not knocking bedxwhipp here as they can make handy wee rabbit dogs but theres nothing that a bedxwhipp can do that a bedxgrey cant do but id ask you this, can your average bedxwhipp put in a hard nights graft on the lamp 3-4 nights a week ? and can it plough into his fox and finish it like a good fox dog should ? i know most well bred bedxgrey can as ive had a few and none were wanting in any deparment for their job,Proberly a fraction slower off the mark than the whippet cross (still well fast enough for a bolting bunny ) but they make up for this in their top gear and stamina and they are -

From day one id say,i think id be right on saying the original or early lurcher were bred from greyhounds and herding dogs, two breeds which can be overlooked by today's lurcher faternity(with all the bull x bred for foxing lurchers) which can have the attributes of drive and aggresion ect which is needed for a lurcher to kill a fox, especially back in the day when herding dogs were often worked on stubborn bullocks and the like often facing the dogs down thus needing a certain type of herder to stand its ground and maybe a bit of teeth on hide to bring him back into line, granted these herding a
