He is certainly very unpopular with almost everyone you speak to in Ireland, but and it's a big but, Ireland only has around 4 million residents in total and other than probably in Dublin they have never had to experience the shit we have in England. There just isn't the same pressure and that's a fact......maybe they have held it at bay because Ireland is such a religious country? ......the Catholic Church is still very powerful and part of day to day life. They already do, If torturing a terrorist for information saves hundreds of lives so be it. What other method of extraction can you think of?? free meals and holidays for life for any information given?? I know, that is why I said 'will feel justified'! One thing is for sure, we have no clue whether or not physical torture of suspected terrorists will achieve anything. While I agree pretty much with this post I will however repeat what I watched a senior Texas law enforcement officer say about the death penalty on a TV documentary. He said that we as a society grant each other certain rights and in return we expect normal human behaviour........once you step outside that boundary of normal behaviour then we are well within our rights to say we no longer grant you a place amongst normal human beings and reserve to right to remove you from amongst us permanently.......you have in effect forefitted your rights as a human. Das Boot is one of the best war films ever made imho, downfall is also very good. I liked boy in the stripe pajamas too, it was brilliant to watch David Thewlis portray a caring loving father, a very proper individual who's job just so happened to be exterminating thousands of people. I think the film made a good point with that performance in as much as if you push ordinary people too far they will do almost anything to protect their culture and way of life.
