  1. To my mind its speed what tends to blow roe up. heavy for calibre bullets of s/p nature tend to do a lot less damage, as they are slower and heavily constructed and dont over expand causing massive tissue damage.
  2. there isnt much meat on a roe rib cage and i will take neck head shots on occasion but have you never heard of best practice. head shots are a no no if you shoot many deer off sticks there is too much can go wrong.
  3. behind the 5th rib entry was perfect exit 3rd rib a little forward but missing the leg bone, the deer dropped to shot.
  4. Heres breeze at work this morning, If she hadn'thad tipped me off these deer were in the thicket it is unlikley we would have seen them first. She must have picked them up 70m's away and her body langauge said "DEER". I took notice and saw the buck first. I missed the shot on film because of the conditions but the deer fell backwards over itself and fell dead. So I filmed the follow up even though I knew where the deer was. She didn't as she could only see the buck and he ran off.
  5. What can i say, I also shot a roe doe and a fox and left 2 fallow and also turned down shots on at least 6 more munties all does.
  6. Well out this morning again and busy trying to find a yearling doe or two to cull. We were watching two pricket bucks when this emerged from the wood Well after this shot they moved into cover so we skirted around the wood where I spied a deer about 1/4 of a mile away so we went to the truck to get a closer look. we stalked into where I'd seen the 1 and this is what we found. They were very excited and chasing one another around. they were soon out of range a shame as 1 small doe had allibarbas feet. back for her tomorrow. We moved into another area and soon were into 4 which did th
  7. Filmed these 2 this morning, seen 4 this week so far and 1 last.
  8. Another "good" do mate well done. We stalked into 8 this morning and wanted to target either of the yearling does sadly 1 of the mature does (looking like a barrel) came down the wood first to meet us. She came 25ft off us and was puzzled for sometime before finally jumping the gutter and running onto the field. The other 7 bunched up with her and we couldn't find a way into a follower for the bullets path. I was very disapointed but the client was fine (we had done the right thing) That way we will have sustainable stalking. Out in the morning again but only for followers. Regards jo
  9. It just shows you any bullet is caperble of going wrong. My experience with balistic tip type bullets its if driven fast very quick expansion.
  10. I personally use and recomend Nosler partions any calibre any weight.
  11. clean the gun and check the moderator hasn't come loose it maybe fouling the bullets flight also check the stock and mount screws are tight. it maybe just doesn't like em but check alls tight first.
  12. selling due to upgrade, buying the zeiss. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280475108517&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT
  13. I have never made it a secret about my dislike for these for use on roe deer. While I will not argue they kill very well here is some very good reasons why I still wont allow clients to use them UNLESS they are buying the carcass. This was sold and butchered by me for a regular client who likes to use balistic tips. There was no bone hit on entry the range was 130m's and it was a 7mm "HUNTING" bullet. Make up your own minds. ENTRY. EXIT. OUTSIDE EXIT.
  14. It would be matey he needed 1 to finish his dsc2, the 2nd was a bonus.
  15. the roe here are varying, but pregnant is pregnant. if you have an issue here just cull last years does they are easy to spot and great eating.
  16. This morning arrived as did Nick before light in the snow. We had quite a drive ahead so when he stuffed his things in my truck we set off. A very good frost was about and windless so stalking was going to be tough. We walked in and weren't long before a big buck and doe appeared to our left we closed the ground only to have about a dozen pheasants erupt in front alerting the deer to our presence. So I filmed the buck (very nice he was.) Well we carried on as those deer melted back into the wood we had just come from and I thought we may pick them up on the way back. So we reached my amb
  17. The american stuff is loaded back by around 2-300fps to allow for use in all the sporterised mausers that flooded the usa market. They have weak recievers and could blow with full loads. So if you want the best out of the swede then use Norma, RWS, Sako or Lapau ammo. We have chronoed some federal 139 gr loads in 3 x 6.5's rifles and it is JUST deer legal in 2. regards john.
  18. well done lads, just 1 point me and a client stalked 6 deer in the open and got to within 120m's without detection . it took us 1hr 45 mins though. but we shot all 3 does. a very memorable stalk we never had a blade of grass to hide behind. but a nice shot anyway..
  19. Been stalking all deer for some 21 years, Had x2 .243's a 2506, a.308, a 7mmrem mag and a 6.5x55. I have clients using everything from 6mm's-8mm's My view is theres 2 to choose from. 6.5x55(use european factory rounds) and if you hand load look at the 7mm08
  20. 2 from the high seat last night and another for him this morning. 3 great lung shots taken with a .243 and 100gr lapua s/p's. all ran but only a few yards. think hes well hooked and is wanting to do his dsc1 now hes had a go.
  21. Both does dropped within 15 m's. If you look close on the second you can see the bullet hits a twig on route but doesn't deflect or destroy itself. he was using .243 + 100gr s/p's and this little chap showed up a couple of nights ago. This just goes to show a high seat in the right spot is a very sucessful way to shoot deer.
