  1. I have a finnlite and its brill, should have had 1. 20 years ago. I also think ts a shame to take a 7 pointer in velvet, hes got that big without getting shot, maybe the other guys were leaving him to clean. then its 1st come 1st serve. let him cleaan then get there first.
  2. Depends on your local force. You will only find this out by asking or applying. One thing is sure you will have to have deer entered onto your ticket.
  3. It could be a change of diet, stock animals put onto new pasture often scour.
  4. I must say I am very impressed with this ammo. Tried it tonight on the shoot and with a strong back wind which was buffeting me I shot an inch group in the bull at 200 yards, Not bad as she's shooting just 2cm's high at 100. Thats quite flat for a 162gr. Cant wait to get at the fallow.
  5. You are correct with your assumption hornet IS NOW ILLEGAL for any deer.
  6. same here good luck. dont forget your camera.
  7. It starts tomorrow if you mean Roe bucks in England. You need a .243 or bigger calibre to do it legally.
  8. they are 162 KS cone points and look the part.they are also shooting 1/2 inch groups @ 100m's same zero as 160 pmc's. waiting to try them on deer will keep ya posted.
  9. Best practice says we shouldn't shoot a deer in the head it is a very small target and moves around. Unless close these shots should be avoided. A heart lung shot is recomended and death is quick. I dont write the rules just follow em. A guide to "best practice" is found here. http://www.basc.org.uk/en/codes-of-practice/deer-stalking.cfm there are many guides like this all state head shots are a no, no.
  10. Morning and evening John, then the next day.I only have three to cull on my patch, but at least I'm lucky enough to have some ft nice one you lads, I will be out most morning and evenngs till the crops get to high, then busy with the gamebirds and then the rut but april/may are my personal fravorites, with the bucks chasing each other and the barking coming from cover always gets my blood racing.
  11. its a 7mm rem mag and have found it fine on roe with handloads, 140+160 nosler partitions and 160 speer grand slams. thanks for your coments john.
  12. I'm no fool i'm out among the roe bucks, (even better its my job). How many of you lot will slip into the woods and fields to try for an opening day buck.
  13. Well the great news is the rifle loves em,1/2 inch group, and same zero as my other load. So they put the other boxes to one side, while i can go get them. The hope I have is they will be great on the bigger deer good on boar and because they are a "big game" bullet may be a little on the hard side and not expand to quickly on roe so hopefully a good all round bullet for the rem mag. Will keep you all informed though if they were £52 a box I would continue to hand load for it.
  14. Just bought some RWS factory for the rem mag. Getting lazy these days cant be arsed to hand load for this rifle as dont use it often and wanted some pig and large deer shells. 162gr cone points..... price on label £52 for 20 going cheap paid £30 a box got 1 box to try. no point buying the other 4 boxes if my gun dont like em
  15. Out again this morning and came accross another funny head. The tuft at the top is the last of the velvet but try as I might i only see 1 antler but think he has a damaged pedicle watch this space in April.
  16. Now match bullets may be legal in england but your ticket states you can buy and use expanding missiles. And you are required to shot deer foxes and vermin only with expanding ammo. But then there is legislation to say match bullets can be sent by post as they are match bullets not designed to expand. This is where even more confusion kicks in. I agree and see where you are coming from with your statements but when the manufacturers dont recognise these as sp/hp. you have to admit its all technicalities and a "grey" area.
  17. I started this topic and have sat back and watched, I openly admit to not liking b/tip type bullets on roe only from a meat prespective they actually kill better than any other bullet. BUT if the manufactureres actually don't class them as either, I think HZ has a point as surley if it ever went to court the solicitors would ask the makers what they "termed" the bullets as. THEY make em after all. Not taking sides here just adding to the debate (I hope). You can buy allsorts of things marketed and good for a use but it dosnt make them legal for that use. match bullets ARE hollow points and m
  18. All but a few of the mature bucks I am seeing now are in white antler.
  19. he will be culled yes, we have plenty of normal 6 pointers here to leave as stock.
  20. The colour coding on balistic tips are calibre relevant not vermin /deer type.
  21. no there are good and bad.MY FINDINGS are, Vmax, b/tip, blitzkings usually very violent, sst's are very unpredictable either failing to expand or blowing up. swifts, interbonds, are stronger but very expensive. I find it easier to ban all plastic points unless client buying the venison. Its just easier for me. I dont deal with gamedealers just butchers and private use so the meat damage is a real issue. Same for hollow points actually but not many use them and the sierra gamekings are quite controlled expansion.
  22. hunting btips are in my experience still TO violent for roe at close woodland ranges.
