  1. After seeing fleeing deer as a common thing in the crunchy snow we had a break this morning although the snow was frozen it seemed to be "softer" and so quieter. Getting the crosshairs on a buck first thing I thought there's some hope this morning. There were slots everywhere certainly plenty of deer moving during the dark hours. After stalking and waiting near the pheasant feeder then on to the next and a wait we hadn't produced a doe. Gently backtracking we caught a glimpse of that tell tale shape, no two working along the bottom end of the wood. The wind was at best OK a gentle crosswi
  2. This is a fairly useful series BUT mentions nothing about external or internal checks which should be performed before during and after the gralloch. You really are better watching a proper gralloch if anyone will take you out and show you one. It is preciecly this type of gralloch the dsc2 is to prevent. No considerations to the carcass has been given to it entering the food chain.
  3. After the second cancellation this week first a family crisis and second the dreaded flu, and the miss on Sunday and close encounter yesterday morning I decided at 2.55 this afternoon to go out since there was a dusting of snow Driving six miles from home and down to the wood I was in position by 3.15 and gloved up. I was waiting for the yearling my mate Mal orphaned last week. Then from no where 3 deer ran at me. They were going to be as startled as me. Winding the scope down as they got to me I pulled the glove off with my teeth. The first stood 20ft from me looking back at the
  4. A very lucky doe this morning. The over exposed light on the horizon masks the village we had no BACKSTOP.
  5. yes plenty i hope i carry the camera every day and put them on you tube quite regular. i have a dvd out now vol 1 vol 2 is just about to be released. check the link at the topic starter for my channel.
  6. after 2k's it hadn't gone down. further inspection of the evidence said it was clipped on the sternum and never actually penetrated the ribs.
  7. new camera going well take a look at yesterdays footage.

  10. Saw a large 6 point buck today in velvet and his antlers were nearly twice the length of his ears.
  11. I have seen all the bucks i saw last week, this week all have now cast
  12. Seen 2 roe bucks this week a 4 pointer and a big 6 still in hard antler.. seems late now to me you boys seen owt.??
  13. No all stalking is daily and accompanied. Well done John. Do you organise any syndicates in the Yorkshire area ?
  14. Out this morning and a client shot this follower leaving the doe and other follower for another day. Any way its YDS's 100 deer since last feb 2nd (end of pheasant season) so i'm capped Regards to all my clients well done.
  15. but i would not let a punter shoot off a fence post? WHY ????????????? I have no problem with clients using whatever is at hand and would say 60% is off sticks standing 25% sticks kneeling, 10% gates trees or whatever is available and 5% off a bipod.(not included high seat shots). I think everyone should use field craft and on alot of ground bipods are not the safest option and are nearly useless in most woodland scenarios.
  16. Hi mo well done on that result mate. have stalked in hampshire myself .....a serious volume of deer down there. regards john.
  17. CHECK OUT MY WEB SITE MATE HAVE ALOT OF LADS FROM YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS REGARDS JOHN.
  18. I give loads of spare heads away to a chap you could have had some but he just picked them up last week...guess what he cleans them up and puts them on ebay.
  19. Try my site mate. If i'm to far theres plenty of others regards john.
  20. Martin its preciesly this reason why i will not allow clients to use plastic/hollow points UNLESS they are buying the carcass. I cannot argue that they kill deer very effectivley BUT at the expense of massive damage and unreliable over expansion. I nearly always have my dog breeze and runners rarely go to far.
  21. In principle you are correct in part, but as above, it seems the DSC is "almost" a necessity in some areas! Rubbish really, as a few days lecture and shoots in no substitute for years of experience. I have NO official deer qualifications but I am an accepted and hopefully respected deer mentor for Thames Valley and the Met Police. How daft is it that the Police are happy for me to "train & supervise" deer stalkers but certain organisations will not allow me to shoot on their land because I have no paper qualification! And if/when you get your own land you cannot shoot what
  22. I have had mixed results with clients using them either NO expansion or a BLOW up. I no longer allow ANY plastic point unless client is going to keep the beast!!
