This truely is good news. I really mean it as the system itself isnt ready or flexible enough yet to be compulsory. Its that good its been posted on 3 threads. regards john. Its only a side step mind you as it is the way forward, the government police and other bodies want it.

Good luck matt. regards john.

Certinally not tame.... no feed, just field craft and stalking ability. could have shot this at 200m's but waited for it to stalk us(lol), finally shot at 120mm's and only then because we thought it was going through the hedge. As it happen I think it was just browsing. Partitions are a great round fast expanding but limited to x2 so no damage in bone.

the client took the head and i would guess about 5-6 years old.

So non of you treat rats, mice, or rabbits any different to say a deer?? I find this hard to believe. Never killed a rat with a stick or put out poision? Condeming it to a slow death from hyperthemia. All life treat the same.....BOLLOCKS

Lovely martin. The deer that is not your gardening skills LOL -
After a good stalk this chap came to us. He has very long antlers and only a brow tyne on 1 antler ("on offer"). A real danger to the other deer. We spotted him well out in a field having a mooch so drove around the back of a wood in the hope he would re- appear. We stalked down the wood edge(Nick leading), only to have him appear about 200m's away getting down on the sticks Nick made his call that he would wait for the deer to hopefully make his way up to us. A good call as he did. Just as he got closer he went broadside and I confirmed to him the shot was ok. Because of the vegitatio

I can see the ethics of deer stalking go over your head as well mate. Like I said i'm a gamekeeper/stalker have been all my life so have no problem with killing animals. And i suppose I am a hypocrite deer deserve more respect than foxes THERE ITS ON THE RECORD.
-
Any animal at any range can be wounded we dont aim to wound but it happens, its far more likely to happen at long range. I dare say the fox wasn't shot with a Vmax blitz or balistic tip.(which are the favoured fox rounds). Been a keeper I could say digging isn't a sport matey (but I won't), killing foxes is killing foxes sometimes its sport sometimes its just a job. And if you dig you can't tell me the fox doesn't suffer before you kill it or bolt it and try and shoot it. Lets not get into this debate foxes don't get the same respect from almost all sportsmen or keepers. If you thought abou

I have to keep repeating this, surley you know that a fox is much smaller and less hardy than a deer( 12-20lb average as oposed to 25-180lb) and likewise a hit from a C/F rifle with a fast expanding bullet will usually kill a fox even with a "not so good shot". Likewise a fox shot up the arse with a deer calibre will kill it and exit at the neck. Only a fool would shoot a deer here. Also loads of foxes are shot with rimfires and shotguns, how many deer are killed this way now??
-
Good shot no doubt , but enough said by the others. Keep those shots to the foxes mate. Or at least to yourselves. p.s. your mate might keep still but can he garuntee the deer will. Neck shots are very tiny targets at any range and aren't always a kill or miss If you look at my post "bless em" look at the thickness of those deers necks and thats at 20m's a bucks neck bones are bigger but not by much, most is hair and muscle. I could take the shot (probably) but if you asked me down to come stalking I would want to stalk(BUT THATS JUST ME.)

A real wierdo that one mate. better dead me thinks. -
I agree in kind W.V. but we have a large poaching issue here. As said many time before what works for some isnt always the best for others. Alot of farmers want to see the deer totally removed and if I dont go some way towards reducing numbers when I see them he will get someone in who will.( as already said somewhere else on here that we get 6 point yearlings that may weigh 30lb) they would make great bucks in 4 years but we have to shoot something. Much of my land is by kind permission, do as they want or go. And on perhaps -100 acres I cannot manage these deer. Other than shoot out of s

After only minutes earlier my client had missed a buck these 2 roe does came and had a look at us. I saw them earlier in the week with mother but she has obviously turned sour with them and pushed them off. They look quite lost and vulnerable. Bless em. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hw3g7ttw6nE

Hi again john,I would not sit right with my conscience to relieve someone of thier hard earned cash to pass on knowlege that was given to me free of charge from my very close friend and mentor, but I would like to be able to pass this knowlege on to both my sons without us having to pay for three DMQ's,also I would not have a problem passing on these skills as a mentor free of charge. Not all A.W.'s Charge?? you could join there ranks and train and witness for free.

Well when you look at those heads something is going right. Also the gene pool cant be kept pure like breeding dogs, ageing, breeding potential and parentage of the does is nearly imposible and a great buck will mate every doe regardless of her status ending up with all sorts. To much is read into it i'm sure. every area is different. we are on chalk here and get 6 point yearlings. food and shelter is offered all year been a large game shooting area. also the lack of stock means we very rarely even see a tick. our local population is on the brink of an explosion so we cull most of what

Well N.H. love or hate the system you would probably make a great A.W. or at least a trainer. Just another point here no-one has said it will stop things going wrong only it wont do any harm and will probably on the whole stop some of these things from happening. Having your driving lisence dosn't stop crashes from happening but must cut down on accidents from a world full of non trained drivers. regards john.

Well when I witness a candidate i will simulate a wounded animal and assess as best I can weather they will cut it or not. I know its not best but its all I can do if in the 3 stalks a deer hasn't been wounded. Other than deliberatly wounding 1 its not possible to know for sure. A candidate could shoot 30 or 50 without a wounded beast a test is only as good as we can make it. I do see where you are coming from but its all we have to go on.
-
I cover about 12,000 acres of various farm/estate land. Think 2 will go bronze. The uploaded quality of the film is crap my origional is 10x better and they can be assesed better. My land is varied and some areas quite small though great quality so if those bucks are unluckily in one of those areas they will be shot no matter what their potential as the risk of poaching is so high.
-
May I make my stand a little clearer. When i say a compulsory test I do not mean it has to be DSC1 as it would not cover fox shooting only a test and exam to show gun competence and field saftey. DSC is to deer specific to be a general test. A cheaper test could be made and if passed an open ticket and no calibre restriction should apply as you have proved you are fit.

just ask any of my last 50 clients how many have taken a head shot???(if you ask on here there are some of my clients and they will tell you I ask for no "clever" shooting just a boiler house shot.) None And me personaly out of the last 50 deer I've shot NONE. Cant prove this dont have to. All that was written earlier is that in my careeer I have shot deer in the head (and dont like it) And the DMQ will now not condone it, though they have in the past.I have had 1 deer go through many moons ago with a head shot. "best practice" is exactly that not a hard and fast rule just a guideline.
