In situations such as the like of this I would try to let the pups burn off a little energy earlier if possible the smell and sight of game is overloading an already excited pup , A play round or a good walk if you know you are going out later or some form of a good burn out just to take the edge off them so that the energy issue doesn't arise They will settle down as they mature when prey losses it's novelty value to them it's the same with all young things their excitement of the world is engrossing for them

For emotional development the longer a pup is with the bitch and litter mates the better, same as any intelligent mammal humans, monkeys , dogs the building of emotional security is achieved very early in life,

The way animals overcome fear is through desire for something principly food , no dog can hold on to 2 feelings inside itself at the same time, so I work on the conflict between fear and hunger, we see it every winter birds and animals come to scavenge at our bird table when pickings are harsh elsewhere it's not because they enjoy the company of humans , it's that hunger has overcome fear , feeding the dog in a bowl is only feeding the fear, feed the pup during its walks gradually building up the intensity so it can eat in front of any stranger, it will have to give up fear to eat if really h

its a frustrating one for you , whining is one from an early age i try to sort , nip it in the bud before it arises i dont respond to a dog that whines full stop, it becomes a habit thats hard to break because what happens is that the dog believes its the state of mind is what makes things happen,, So in that case kev the high energetic state of mind which facilitates whining is what the dog believes makes you come back, Try changing routines, times, try coming back and not taking the other one straight away , let it settle then take it out at the same time feeding the other one, mix

England fielded very well at the back, Goode kicked very well leaving ireland playing catch up throughout the game , our back line was constantly under pressure with no go forward ball at all, credit to England, Seem to be an England team for the first time in living memory for me aren't up their own arses, and a team i wouldn't have a problem with winning the championship,

It's often as much of a behavioural problem as it is physical/dietary one. very good point that would also be the way i would approach the issue bud, its not a behaviour i have ever witnessed in a well grounded completely social canine,

i hope you dont take this the wrong way bud, but why would young wolves go out of their way to eat other wolves shite are they trying to gain favour or do you think it hopes to be seen eating it and by doing so becomes less threatening by degrading itself in front of other pack members,,

Puppy Advice Regarding Training
Casso replied to Bleutoby's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
good advise, also give him the command Come when the dog is on the way to you, in time the sound of the word is associated with the action of movement, dont teach stay by using dominance or being imposing , use a desire for something to keep him in the stay in time ,in the mean time, PLAY its the best way to build trust and bond, -
the dog will ingest (orally or with olfactory receptors) substances with a prey full essence , bodily fluids , blood, saliva, prey crap like sheep shite cow horse all get ingested at some point when they evoke a charge in the canine,(which they grow out of when it not longer charges them up in time)in most dogs the charge is neutralised by olfactory receptors alone , which is why dogs investigated other dogs crap, sniff it then leave it at that, they are also attracted to fox shite but it doesn't have a prey full essence its more predator like but the dog will ground the charge evoked in

thats true for me anyhow, been round running dogs for a long time now, father hunted his before him the same, as a kid lived to hunt, hated summer looked forward to the dark windy nights of winter, lamped coursed dug, good times, sometimes i think i overdosed on it and then again the people you used to hunt with get older and move on , a bit of mooching does me now, wind is colder now, barb-wire is sharper, ditches are taller and wider i swear , priorities change, love to see a good chase but not going to lose any sleep to see it any more, don't need to prove anything to anyone, not interes

Every time there's a knock or a ring on the bell feed the dog, at the minute he is been overwhelmed and is swamped with energy when triggered he's all in his head, if you can let the trigger of the visitor relay his gut ,you can change how he references the sudden energy surge, a bit like how Pavlov's got the dogs to respond to the ringing of a bell, you got to be consistent with it though and not leave food down with him at other times, he ONLY feeds at the sound of a visitor,
-
is he in the house 24/7, does he have an energy outlet, not sure how your dogs giving him spanking is going to turn him into a saint,
-
what's the circumstances when the pup losses it, is he a russel , what age, pups are programmed to make contact orally with more intention and determination than most folk can reasonably live with , have they had a driven pup before ??
-
not sure if i follow what went on , dogs dont casually walk up and bite people, they have to be in a certain mindset one which doesn't resemble casual looking, excited, nervous or driven i can understand the urge to mouth then but not casual, get the dog out of the bedroom , get him off sofa's, dont play with the dog in the house, dogs develop mind set's for different environments if the dog believes the house is a play area then the house evokes excitement in the dog same as when a dog walks into a field he transforms into a driven mindset, the energy is in the environment , rest insi

There is an underlying emotional issue going on in the house , is the dog attracted to a certain member of the household??a close bond with your wife or something, whatever it is i would get him out expressing emotion through drive, play or long walk together, drive is a dogs way of expressing emotion, his own, yours or whatever is going on in his environment whatever you do , do not listen to anyone who preaches dominance as an answer to your problems, dominance suppresses energy through fear , you need that dog expressing itself,,energy withheld is stored as fear and by far the bigge

the one thing that stands out above anything thing else on this thread is fear , fear of the nature of the dog , seemly the dog is programmed to take over and if given half a chance savage most of the family while he's at it, if he doesn't know his place , the most social loyal animal on earth is constantly plotting to become leader of the house how the f**k can anyone not see the contradiction in the dog we know and the image of how the dog is portrayed by some people, some very experienced dog men on here still working out of the yank and crank method of dog training who know there

The hand feeding is only one link in a chain of how the pup should interact with you because fear is untrainable, a nervous dog cant be trained, he's functioning on instinct , particularly nervy sensitive dogs are more prey like than predator, they're flighty and unsure of themselves because of how they feel inside, to break this down further every animal has a certain resistance to every other, every animal has predator/prey in there make up same as us we are now top predator but once we were prey and we still feel resistance making contact with certain large animals, its not only that we

there seems to be a general fear that if a pup isn't put in its place and knows who's boss then its not going to respond or listen to its owner, its a common misunderstanding of the canine make-up, every pup is born social, where that goes wrong is down to the owner and lack of understanding not the dog, if you can learn from how the dog develops from food orientation as a pup to sexual maturity and the drive that it brings we can stay in tune with canine behaviour and be the answer to whatever issues crop up not the cause of them, why do we fear the nature of the most social animal o
-
i think this is about how your interpret the pups growling, many will say that the pup is trying it on and discipline it ,wrongly in my view or is the pup showing fear either of you or your hand, its a problem i have never encountered and the reason for it is that a dog should have no fear with you been in his space or him in yours for working purposes, there must be trust so i work on hand feeding from the puppy stage not treats all his grub, no bowl the bowl only promotes possessiveness in a pup where trust hasn't been built , that way the hand that feeds is greeted in the same manner wh

pups at that age are programmed through their very nature to make contact with their mouth , if we think about it , its the only facility available to them and imprinted via connection made with the bitch through suckling, the pup is driven to do it reason doesn't come into it , its not about pecking orders or anything like that , manage the pup take the emphasis off the other dog and place it with you through play and tug items, the pup just wants to orally connect with other things in its environment the force to connect is stronger than the social aspect which is fine in the wild but

i can appreciate what your saying Phil but it doesn't mean you let the pup run riot about the place, i think folk believe if you dont instill training as early as possible the pup will grow up to be a manic running around everywhere, the biggest points i feel are missing in a debate like this is 1 dont come into conflict with the pup just try and MANAGE the pup so it cant get itself into any trouble because trust needs to be built , you cant build trust if you are constantly disciplining it for wrong doing, i just dont put it in a situation where it can f**k things up, and 2 is play ,
