Is she reacting to the movement of prey at all??

Straight out of the Mushroom handbook of animal care, nice?

The crate isn't the problem , the problem I would think was caused while the pup was away, Put it this way when next doors chihuahua growls at me when he's eating under the table, I know it's the only time he feels safe enough to do it but I don't blame the table for causing it ,
-
The growling in the crate is caused by the crate feeling like a safe place , safe enough to express fear, Hand feeding gets the pup used to overcoming resistance human resistance, every animal in the wild has got to overcome resistance to feed , it's following the laws of nature, it's no different with dogs , feeding out of the bowl is just feeding the fear , a desire overcomes fear , hunger is a major desire, hand feed getting loads of contact gradually incorporate the kids into the process Best of luck

What's the other issue the pup has, The biggest problems with threads like this is how we interpret growling, Some people see fear and some dominance

Mush you old fungi, a lot of a pups problems are man made, Too much attention in the house is a biggie for causing problem behaviour If we're all over a pup in the home , our attention becomes a yardstick for how a pup feels or doesn't feel right, When we're not then giving it attention the pup feels things arnt right or when we're not there things just arnt right either, Less is more with pups, it's a hard job in the home to educate other family members to just leave a pup alone but it pays dividends in the long run Outside play , inside rest, Crated pup gets out to piss and crap a

It's more the floor than the door me thinks

Is she out much doing doggy stuff, dogs but pups in particular are extremely interested in objects with s prey full essence , shit , piss , odours, blood , bodly fluids anything that activates their predator element, Juveniles before they have a focus are just exercising the predator in their character, as she matures other predator activities will overrule this avenue of canine behaviour When dogs are able to fully explore all elements of canine behaviour , the trivial shite (excuse the pun) usually ceases, Get her out , try a tug item when out , she needs a focus, Best of luck

I have long since stopped believing that a behaviour stands on its own , it's more of a consquence of something else, No confrontations in the past ??
-
From 3 or 5 foot is the safe distance in the dogs mind from its owner , it may never be able to breach that space

I think I get what your saying but the retrieve ultimately leaves a pup frustrated Amplified by the fact it's all indoors which increases the excitement in the pup There was a post up the other day about a natural retrieve , its a calm relaxed state, no hyper energy, no shaking, no biting A excited pup will need to ground the energy it feels into the retrieve item but the owner won't be involved because he is no resolution to the excitement that's when the pup breaks off and becomes slower coming back , there is just too much energy in his system I like to keep pups on a back burner, raise
-
Nice little pup, I wouldn't be in a rush to get the finished product at that stage , The shaking of the item is a sign of overload , meaning the item is really energising the pup into a state of excitement, which is leading to the fact that you are having issues with the hand over I would take it slow but best of luck with the pup

I like that post, there's an understanding of motivation and the true nature of the dog, A pup doesn't need to be be corrected to make it social, a dog makes itself social to fit within its group (owner) if it's owner is instrumtial to the dog fulfilling itself as a hunting animal Not saying it's the case here but the amount of people I've met who can't grasp that every incident you have with a pup growing up effects how the dog relates to us in training and in the field later on Could be something as simple as snatching an item off a pup on the house he's not meant to be chewing and scold
-
What's your relationship with the pup like ??
-
That's the best sort of retrieve in my book, it's so pure with no commands or friction , I wouldnt be in a rush to take the item off her, her prize item in your space is the deal clincher for me Too many lads whipping the prize away before a pup is comfortable with it around the owner, the pup walking with it beside you is bang on. Best of luck with her
-
Don't be in to much of a hurry to get the perfect retrieve from the start, Too much emphases put on the retrieve item can give a pup conflicting notions, as in, the owner is placing all his attention on this, this should be my complete focus of attention Over stimulated pups become needy, I do little with pups until they start showing me drive , long walks with no over stimulation builds calm confident pups Get the pup on a really long line , you can buy long lengths of nylon online , buy a clip from hard wear shop make up a twenty metre lead , you can do retrieve with the pup on this h

Has she come across any game yet in cover? Dogs link chains of events and objects together to form a full picture in hunting At the minute the cover is offering too much resistance for her and not enough benefit It's got to be worth her while to dive in , if she s coming across too many exciting smells and scents on the outside , she figures it's hardly worth it , Walk on lead and only let her in , where you see something going in to cover , it's either shit or bust then ,

Same as anything else in the dog world , ultimately it'll come down to the handler knowing the breed and the individual dog,

It's hard to put a finger on the exact reason for a behaviour mate but it take 3/4 years for a dog to fully express his personality So any issues he may have had and been passed off as a minor thing at the time come to fruition at that stage in his life You might even have forgotten about or he associates something in the present with a thing in his past, dogs have a physical memory not a mental one as such I would just try to redirect him into a ball or similar something he could chew to releave tension or teach him to bark somewhere else , Best of luck with the dog
-
Going by what you have already posted mate it looks like a mixture of rage and blossoming drive with no avenue for release , In a case like that everything or anything becomes the trigger because there is no point of direction Going against what the purists might say I would get it on a tug item , it will reduce the emotional filled pup back to zero again, When starting off just tug with pup on lead , letting the pup win and keep item in its mouth walking with pup on lead beside you , reach down tug again not hard but enough so the pup feels it's achieved something , pup must win always

Build up the pups confidence dogs are a pack animal and one of the unwritten rules of pack life is that they need to define their own personality according to the likes and wants of the other members of the pack Any owner of a couple of dogs knows that dogs become equal and opposite of each other , what one likes the other don't , what excites one won't another , the only thing they will all agree on is their hunting and food So the pup is defining herself according to what other member of the pack like including you, the more you build confidence the more her predator side grows and t

He reminds me a bit of Kevin Richardson in south Africa , Animals needs that tactile approach when you don't have that fear can creep in, big cats deal with fear head on He also uses a mimicking action for bottle feeding the biggest tiger , where he regresses the animal back to its first days of life by feeding through a bootle standing only on back legs , this action allows memory's of warmth and flow in association with him , He also facalites prey making through ball play another important element in dealing with a predator, The principles he uses are based on key large animal soc
