  1. I asked a gouse moor keeper for advice after getting soaked through on saturday he says he has tried everything on the market and nothing lasts more than 2 years max. His advice was by cheap and replace on a regular basis. My jacket is a river west which was not cheap which is just over 2 years old. This is the first time it has let in water but saturday morning on the yorkshire dales was bad. Going to look at a second hand wax proof had one years ago which i wore to destruction which never leaked. My mate has spend thousands on sealand halrika and there were all rubbish.
  2. Redbeck shooting supplies at Wakefield takes some beating on price for most things they do mail order.
  3. I am looking to insure a ford ranger who do people use for a good price. Thanks martin.
  4. I work for Wakefield Council Pest Control and we are to be outsorced to a private company. Weather this will be a postive thing personally remains to be seen. Does anyone on her live in area where local authority pest control has been outsourced or work for an authority where this has taken place. Any information in respect to locations where this has taken place or from people who have TUPE transfered in a similar situation would be much appreciated.
  5. Very low numbers in the wakefield area of German or Common Wasps and the nest I have done are at a very early stage with very low activity only had 8 treatments so far. Removed one from a shed on friday about the size of an orange. I keep dogs in a kennel block and every year have an issue with fruit flies in the kennel and this year I have only just started seeing them this week and same around ferrets very low flie activity for time of year. Conversly i have removed 3 wood wasps nests the external nests these have all been large nests and full of new queens these nests have had n
  6. We use crawling boards and after considerable time trying to source a good product we baught sx environmental ones. Not cheap but you get what you pay for and they are a superb product. Only issue is height of roof which has prevented getting them in at times but very rarley. They provide you with a good stable platform to work from. On every job I inspect roof space if accessable and remove every nest which is accessable. A removed nest means no call back and no issue with associated insects. 2 of the worst carpet beatle jobs I have ever come across have been associated with wa
  7. We have just had an issue with a starling in a sports hall being used for exams depositing droppings on students. Thankfullly it exited after a few days. We looked towards shooting it but found they are no longer covered on any general licence. I just wondered if anyone knows of any exeptions to allow you to remove birds in this situation. There must be times when birds not covered by general licences enter food production environments. How do people deal with them.
  8. I used one all last season fantastic piece of kit a vast improvement on the dust stick. It paid for itself with virtually no call backs on treatments. The ability to access difficult nest entry pionts, ability to treat horizontally with no reduction in delivery of insecticide and far easier to use than a dust stick at long lenghts. One of the major issues with either the dust stick or bulb duster is repeatedly decanting insecticide but with the DR5 this is kept to a minimum. What ever the lenght of the wand you still get same delivery of inecticide. I had concerns about it
  9. It makes you wonder why the tree bumble bee has been so successfull when it is reported otther bumble bee number are declining. What ever is there prefereed plant food source must be in abundance. We charge a call out charge on every job and recieve very little if any negative feed back about the charge. Customers are made aware of the call out charge prior to visit and also that if activity is bees we will not treat. In most circumstances when the life cycle is explianed and the fact that the high level of activity is just the emergence of new queens and will subside in a short peri
  10. Wash with petrol allow to fully dry re coat with oil{engine oil} job done. I was adviced to clean with petrol by honda main dealer even though manual says not.
  11. Educating customers is one of the biggest hurdles and as people have said with some it will be a hurdle too far and will lead to lost business. The customers will then look for some one who does not care about regulations. I see the issue and reasoning behind all the changes but one of the biggest issues is availability of these products to the general public. You would think in line with the new raft of directives HSE is demanding and a stuardship scheme there would also be looking at the quantities going into the domestic market. What first generation products are you using ra
  12. The new term on rodenticide labels for use in and around buildings and sewers only brings in to question the useof these products in any location not associated with rodent activity in close proximity to buildings. There is no specific measurement but this issue is going to cause issues for many people undertaking rodent control. Working for a local authority and the responsibility under legislation to control rats within its boarders puts a duty on the authority to control the rats but in many locations use of 2nd generation anticoagulats is no longer an option. We recently l
  13. my mate sent a collar back with same problem to deben and they replaced it free of charge. i had a problem with a reciever which was repaired for a fee with excellent customer service. as regard mk1 to mk3 there is no comparison just some people dont seem to give them an chance and time to get there head round how it works it takes a while. Once you do though I would never go back.
  14. There is a research project into bed bugs and bed bug treatments which I think is being led by Clive Boase and one aspect they are looking into is who effective all currently available insecticides are in relation to bed bug treatments. The only issue to get any information you have to subscribe at a cost of 70 pounds. If this research is done it will be beneficial to all the industry as I personally think some of the claims made about certain insecticides are not correct or the insecticides do not give the same efficacy in practicle situations. I only hope this research is not
  15. Do very little spraying for ants apart from earosol barrier spray with dethlac across door thresholds. Maxforce Quantum is the treatment at his time of the year. It is expensive but so effective it more than pays for itself. It has resolved some jobs in very challenging environments where all other products had little success.
  16. As Yokel Salter Electro Sampson. Hook to carry sling and bar to lift dog.
  17. Usually there are 2 different senarios. Externall nest with forging ants entering premises. Internal nest which at some stage produce flying ants inside which indicates internal nests. If you are a proffesional use maxforce quantum where foraging ants are visible inside the premises and at the base of the building around the premises. If non proffesional nippon gel. Gel bait is very effective when used early season when there is little alternative food sources and when nest just become active and ants are looking agressively for food. The window of oppertunity for gel b
  18. I would like to see a cost for the bed bug heat treatment. It seems such a simple striaght forward process heat to 46 degrees problem resolved. The machinery used to generate the heat was on 24 hrs plus some one monitoring it. I know things are glossed up for the show but who has the time to start looking at the insects under a microscope. These shows never show reality.
  19. I cant remember where I read it or it was possibly on a trianing course but I was made aware mole carry weils disease. Disposable gloves always since.
  20. Try some of the ferret rescue places and you may be able to get a hob thats already been done for a donation.
  21. My ferriting partner has an eight month old kelpie greyhound whippet bred from a first cross kelpie greyhound put to a pure whippet. He has just started bringing him out on our last 2 outings. Both days have been freezing high on the dales and the dog never bothered. We use longnets and the dog never once hit the nets jumping it like a seasoned dog. Sound with the ferrets. At the end of the second day you could see him listeneing and following the action underground. I have been very impressed with this pup he never wonders and has made about 24 inch with a robust frame an
  22. Cheers for all the usual rubbish you get when asking genuine questions. Many thanks to the genuine replies and sound advice.
  23. On a school site the caretaker has reported a problem with gulls taking food from pupils and they are concerned a pupil will be injured. Gulls have come on site after breaks to feed on waste for a number of years but there has never been this aggresive behaviour and gulls coming during break times. They try and manage avialable waste with litter picks after break time. Has anyone come across this. Has any one tried any methods of detering gulls.
  24. Definately a rat the customer has seen it 3 times when lifting the plastic waterfall where it is taking and eating the fish. The gold fish are 6 to 10 inches long. As far as the customer is aware he has not seen any dead fish so we presume the rat is catching them. You live and learn in this job thats for sure. When it has left the area below the waterfall it enters his shed where I now have baits and traps. Rat droppings are visible in the shed.
