Lets not forget the 408 cheytac as well The Barrett and Cheytac were designed as variations on on the original .50BMG. John Browning initially designed the .50BMG as as anti-materiel round in 1907. The point on this thread is that 50BMG was not and is not a sniper round, in the sense of an anti-personnel round. The Lapua .338 was designed from scratch as an anti-personnel round. Frankly, if I got hit by a .338 or a .50 BMG I don't think I'd be in a mood to argue

I'm an anarchist as well, just to confuse the issue still further. Seriously Nic, I object to the world's agenda being driven by big business. That is the sort of globalisation I despise. If the only way to counter it is by federalisation then so be it. Federalisation does not have to mean loss of identity. The individual states of America have a high degree of autonomy and a fierce sense of individuality.

Hellow Rik sorry to say this but where have you been living for the last 10 years? Did you seriously have no idea this has been going. I noticed your passionate 'anti racist' stance on other discussion where the BNP got mentioned but suddenly you've noticed something many people have seen with their own eyes for years and years. This isn't about skin colour...note the way you have to mention 'race' before you start this type of discusion. Our country, its education system and its jobs are being sold whole sale for the benefit of profiteers. The whole racism thing is a smoke screen to stop peop

The Lapua .338 is the only round ever designed specifically for long range anti-personnel sniping, the 50BMG being more used for anti-materiel work. Normally zeroed at 600m, effective range 1600 m, can be good for 2000m in the right hands. Use without a muzzle brake is not recommended. Standard sniping round is 250gr FMJ-BT (LockBase), mv 3000fps, me 4996 ft.lbs

Just to add - The JOBS ARE NOT ADVERTISED in Britain. Artic, in many ways I agree with you but this does look very dodgy to me!

I read a very interesting report in The Times yesterday (Jan 5). Apparently multi-national companies are bringing in staff from India to work in their call centres, around 30.000 jobs all told. The workers are employed by the Indian branches of the companies, and after 6 months can be sent here to work for 3 years, with the possibility of a 2 year extension after that. These are jobs which could readily be done by British citizens. When asked about contracts of employment, rates of pay, sick leave and so on, the companies said "It is not our policy to discuss individual positions." The Tim

Looks like mistaken identity. My mistake. Just wanted to be on the safe side cos all the students wear hoodies. Vice-Chancellor might get upset if I started blowing away undergrads all over the campus. Thanks all

I'm not at all sure that this is in the right forum but wha' da heil. I read a while back that Hooded Crows were only found in Northern England and the Lowlands of Scotland. I live on the South Coast of England, and I keep seeing big black feathered fughpigs that look to me like Hoodies. Am I mis-identifying them or what? Ric

I used to have a BSA falling block target rifle. VERY accurate and if I lined up a string of cartridges I could match a bolt action for rate of fire. I can't remember whether it had scope dovetails, but with 1/8th MOA adjustable Parker-Hale peep sights who needs glass?

I can't speak as to the truth of this, but I once read about a wild crow that could count to six. The farmer sneaked out to shoot it with one companion, who then left. Crow stayed out of sight. Farmer then tried with two companions, one left, crow stayed put. Three . . .four . . . five. Crow stayed put. Farmer than went out with six people, hid behind the tree, five left, crow flew out and got shot. Me, I'm on the crow's side! Animals can have a sense of number up to about four or five. Ric

I'm a bit puzzled here. Do you want advice on your first rimfire, if so do you realise that .223 is centrefire? Why not wait till you get your FAC then ask again? If this is your first FAC you may well not get .223 to start with. It is a fairly powerful CF round and the boys in blue can be a bit leary about granting it. No offence but don't count your chickens till they are hatched. Ric

OPTIONS 1. Kennel the kid outside, keep the dog indoors. 2. Shoot the kid, keep the dog. 3. Grow up, get a life and accept that you are not a fit person to have a dog. On your present showing you are not a fit person to be in charge of a child. Perhaps Nicole is allergic to you. Like some of us on here.

The real problem is that the claim in the OP is utter unmitigated ballocks. Illegal immigrants are held in Broadmarsh for security checks and returned to their country of origin on the first available flight. Failed asylum seekers are treated likewise. Asylum seekers who are allowed to stay while their claim is checked are allowed £37 per adult, with no supplement for children. They are NOT allowed to work. There is certainly a good case to be made that we allow too much immigration but that is not the same as illegal immigration. The benefits listed are available to LEGAL immigrants who

Hear about the big game hunter who had the back half of a lion mounted on his wall? It was a Cat Ass Trophy.

Matty - I should have pointed out that the build quality of Nikon cameras is also very high. There must be some reason why they are by far the most popular cameras with the press! A friend of mine is a doctor, and he was out one day when he had an emergency call-out. He dived into his Landy and took off flat out, and saw his Nikon in the rear view mirror fly through the air and hit the deck at about 25 per; he'd left it on the roof! He retrieved it feeling decidedly gloomy about the prospects of taking any more pics with it. Two small dents in the body and it worked perfectly. Assuming
