    I read a few days ago that polar bears are becoming fully cannibalistic, with males killing and eating cubs - even their own. This is due the shrinkage of the ice-cap reducing the numbers of seals, the bears' normal prey. Obviously not a viable long-term policy.

    Thank you guys for giving straight views. You are right that I don't know that much about the construction industry. I'm ready to listen to the people who are on the edge; I just don't trust loud mouth gits who know even less than I do. For what it is worth I spent most of my working life in the knitwear industry. KFAT rep, stroppy shop steward, had the lads and lassies out a few times.

What I wanted to get over, though, is that 1.) Construction is at a standstill because of the weather. 2.) When work starts on the infrastructure for the Olympics there will be a temporary spike in the workload for the industry. This will be shortlived.     If you are having to go out at night in this lot it might be worth going in to a good motor-cycle dealer. You can get gloves and boot liners that are woven with wiring to hook into 12v dc bike electrics. I've tried 'em on a bike and they work! If they'll keep your tootsies and dannies warm at 70 per they should do the biz sitting out waiting for Charley to turn up. Not much current drain so a good lamping battery set-up should be well up to it.

    Other advice I have seen is minimum 150gr expanding NOT fragmenting. They have very thick skin and fragmenting rounds can break up on impact.Biggest population in UK is in Herefordshire. World record weight was taken there, 518 lbs. We have a lot in Sussex, but they are very shy, almost entirely nocturnal, best taken lamping. It would be a very good idea for the guy with the lamp to have a back-up gun just in case.
