Define superman. Brains? Brawn? Long life? Blond hair, square head, big dick? The genetics of human inheritance are far too complicated for any of these ideas to work. As I said, you can easily breed a dog for one trait, but you will lose a lot in the process. You could in principle breed a human trait in the same way, although it would take a VERY long time. And when you have achieved your aim, is what you have really human? As for breeding out recessive traits, just go back to Gregor Mendel's research in the middle 19th C. It doesn't work! Ric

Yeah, it's a "thought experiment." If you aligned the rifle exactly horizontal and arranged for the free bullet to drop at the exact moment the fired round left the muzzle, perhaps by arranging for the fired bullet to cut a photoelectric beam to release the free bullet, and carried the whole experiment out in a vacuum so aerodynamic effects would not affect the result, then the two bullets would hit the ground at the same moment. What I find interesting here is the number of people who think that heavy bullets fall faster, ie have more loopy trajectories, than light bullets. Wrong! Ric

I'm with Swampy on this one. If the state topped him he would be out of it. He's had three goes at suicide, been jellied and shivved. Keep him alive and let him suffer for the rest of his life. Ric

I have just read that Ian Huntley, who murdered two young girls, has been shivved by another con. Boo Hoo Ric

To put it simple terms it is a seriously dumb idea because apart from the ethical questions it doesn't bloody work. Sure you can breed a dog to have certain characteristics but the result will be a big dog with big teeth big balls and a little teeny weeny brain. Dogs have brains about one third smaller than wolves because they have been bred to have traits that have nothing to do with intelligence. Then factor in that human generation time is on the order of 12 years and you would spend a lot of time breeding idjits. They would resemble their breeders That's just for starters. Could be a g

Yeah! Just imagine all the Hooray Henrys with their Purdey SbS poncing around. Their brand new Wange Wovers in the lane, Henriettas all carrying the pate sarnies and champers and you step out your battered old airweight looking like Clint Eastwood on a bad day. Smile sweetly at all in sight then cut loose with your M4 Benelli 8+1 and kill every bird in the county. Dream on Ric, dream on.

Go for the full Pancho Villa job. Crossed bandoliers over each shoulder, one slung round yer hips. DON'T FORGET THE SOMBRERO. Then you want 2 Colt .44 Navys in yer belt holsters, 2 more in shoulder holsters, an 18" Bowie at the back of your belt and an Arkansas toothpick slung at the back of yer neck. Oh, and a .41 o/u Derringer in each boot. Sorry bruv, just got a bit carried away there . . . Ric

Dunno about that but I was walking on the Downs today and got talking to this lass with a great dog. Looked a lot like a Border Collie but it was an Australian Sheep Dog. Blue Marl and white. A very handsome beast, and he knew it! Ric

Oh shit no. Not me

But what if you get caught short at the rear end? Are you allowed to leave a big steaming smelly calling card? Or must you wrap it up, put it in your slipcase and take it home? I only ask because I'd like to know.

Wonderful ain't they. Keep an eye out for dragonflies mating on the wing as well. Long term weather reports say this could be a great Spring. If you are seeing frogs mating and producing spawn you might care to pass the word on to your local nature groups. I know they can be antis but there are issues where we can agree, and one is maintaining biodiversity. Frog populations are dropping all over the country. Ric

Yeah. Free range chickens + foxes? Organic meat from new-born lambs + foxes? Organic beef + new born calves + foxes? Organic vegetables + rabbits? Organic crops + corvids/feral pigeons? Ho Hum it is to larf. I loved their totally unsupported claim about poisoning foxes though. How about producing some evidence? I will accept that some keepers are still prepared to poison raptors but the vast majority of hunters are implacably opposed to the very idea. Now poisoning lying scumbag reporters . . . tempting idea. Me, I'd sooner sit off at 1000yds with a 6mmbr but that's just me. Ric

I read an article in the Times today according to which foxes are now being shot (true) ripped apart by dogs (false) snared in brutal traps (Here we go again) and poisoned. If any one feels like writing to the Times to tell them they are a bunch of lying toerags please feel free. RicW

Arsepac used to be a pretty decent bunch of people. Then about 10 - 12 years ago they were infiltrated by the LACS and, much worse, by the ALF. They are now run by a group of rabid antis who think they were being clever releasing mink into the wild. They bloody near wiped out otters which are a native species but who cares? Mink are furry little creatures. Right now they are supporting the right of invasive tree rats to destroy our native red squirrels. They are so stupid! They yap on about animal rights without realising that they are involved in destroying our natural economy. Aar-gh-gh

Juvenile Caution & FAC Application
RicW replied to Mastiff's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
As said. The caution should not be a problem but tell them about it. If they catch you trying to hide anything they will f**k you up all over the landscape. Atb, tell the truth bro. Ric -
Oh terribly sorry officer. I thought it was a lesser black backed. Now it's been spread across the landscape by my 17gr HMR I realise that you have no chance of proving it one way or t'other. Living, as I do, on the coast, I really dislike seagulls. As a matter of interest they taste DISGUSTING. Ric

Just to add, another poster made a very good comparison with motor bikes. If you want a serious off-road bike you go for a 'crosser or a scrambler. If you want a serious road bike you buy a tourer, sports, whatever. If you want both in one machine you can get a dirt bike. The problem then is that it won't be as good on the road as a gixer or a Duke and it won't match up to a full blown scrambler on the loose stuff. Apply for .22lr, .17HMR, .223, .243. Explain why you NEED all these. If you are working as a keeper you really do need all these for different aspects of your job. It would make sense to apply for your SGC coterminous, and you might get long mag shotgun on your FAC if you can demonstrate need to control flocking corvids or pigeons. In your position, you may as well apply for all the calibres you are likely to need. Then stick at least one more on top. If the fuzz can knock you back on one, they'll feel clever and you will get what you wanted in the first place. ATB and I envy you your job
