  1. Not my field of expertise but could you get him a 20g semi? Ric
  2. Just had a quick google. Total population of deer in the UK is 1,545,000. And yes, 350,000 are culled per annum but populations are still growing. Have a look at the wildlifeextra site. I'm sure someone more computer literate then I can put up a link. Ric Edited to add it's bullshit about "mostly with shotguns." Apart fron owt else it's illegal except with solid slugs or SSG for humane dispatch.
  3. I reckon they are, so to speak, aimed at European hunters. The 9.3 x 62 would be a great calibre for wild boar in the uk tho. Problem is, CZ make rifles in all those calibres and I can't imagine Anschutz matching them on price! Ric
  4. You can also grow other plants . . . Ric
  5. Ahem. Gentlemen, could we stay on topic? I started this thread out of interest to see how far the "Establishment" would go to ban a legally constituted democratic party. The work ethic argument is an interesting theme but it's not my point on this thread. No offence intended guys, but if you want to discuss the work ethic question start your own thread. Ric
  6. Independent on-line March 12. "The BNP was today banned from recruiting new members after a judge ruled that its constitution was illegal." March 13. " . . . at Central London County Court yesterday Judge Collins ruled that while it is not unlawful to hold discriminatory views, it is unlawful for such principles to be used to control entry to political party." Nick Griffin states that he has removed the offending Section 4 and has reopened the application process. If the BNP are believed to be in breach of the injunction the party may be recalled to the court and the leadership pun
  7. Readie - Sorry mate but you and I have been reading different newspapers. As I understand the situation the BNP are now banned from recruiting until a further court hearing sometime next month. Or are you talking about the EGM result earlier this month? Wishful thinking won't get you far.
  8. Not meant to be negative mate, just cautious. You're obviously a sensible guy but there are some total dickheads out there who could cause problems for the level-headed majority. If you get your written request from your landowner you should be ok for .243 for deer, perhaps subject to a mentoring condition (as Jamie says, that is up to your FEO, ie in the lap of the gods). You will need a bigger gun for boar but you may as well ask for it now! ATB & keep us posted. Ric
  9. Gary, that is a perfectly valid point. A real life field shooter doesn't need these tight tolerances. If you are shooting rabbits with a 22lr, 1MOA at 100yds is more than good enough; deer at 300 yards likewise. I just get a bit rajjy when people claim target rifle accuracy with field weapons that don't need that level of accuracy to start with, and then adduce silly "evidence" in support. Me? A stroppy sod? Nevair! Ric
  10. Hey Kla, got interested in this one, and been doing some research. Top method to control snails is, as said, introduce a pair of clown loaches. Also, if you put any plants, gravel or whatever in the tank, wash them in a weak solution of potassium permanganate first. You can buy it from your local chemist, BUT make sure you rinse it off before you introduce the plants to your tank. Many copper compounds will kill snails, but they are dangerous to your fish as well. It might be worth the effort to transfer your fish to a holding tank and flush your main tank with copper sulphate solution, but ma
  11. I'm open to correction on this but I've always believed that the British Army marksman standard was 10 in a 3" group at 300 yards. Of course, that was over iron sights with a boring old Lee-Enfield like what I used to shoot. Standard for all infantrymen was 10 in a 12" group at 300 yards, which I could just about make on a good day. Youse guys who've grown up with glass sights don't know how lucky you are! My main point stands. 3 round groups prove nowt. Ric
  12. Check out the online papers. The BNP are in deep sh**, er, trouble. 60K court costs will waste their election fund. Ric
  13. Every so often we get people on here showing off their 3 round groups. I'm going to stick my neck out and say "Yeah? So?" The statistical significance of a 3 round group is non existent. Point your gun in the right general direction and three rounds have to land somewhere near the target. Target shooters know this. UKBR22 will give you their lowest qualification if you can put 5 successive groups of 10 in a 3/4" cut ring at 50 yards. That is with 50 rounds; a single "flyer" will disqualify the entire session. One of the most accurate sniper rifles is the H&K PSG1 semi-auto. Before a gun
  14. Hey, Kal, no offence meant. OK, I wind people up but there's no reason to blow your stack. You're in the wrong forum anyway. People on here take the piss out of each other. Chill out bro. Ric
  15. A Siamese Fighting Fish would get on well with all of them. Of course, when you ran out of spratlets it might climb out the tank and have a go at your kneecaps . . . Sorry mate, couldn't resist! How about a Great White? Or an Orca? Sperm Whales are supposed to be pretty hard nuts as well . . . Need a big tank though. Ric
  16. Err . . . 100 acres of hay fields surrounded by woodlands? Doesn't sound very hilly to me. Jamie, fair comment but going from HMR to .243? Surely likely to get a mentor condition whatever you're shooting at? Ric
  17. For Native species on deer in England and Wales you need .243 legal minimum. Muntjac and CWD min .220 centre-fire 1000 ft.lbs ME. Recommended minimum for boar is .270, better .308, 150gr bullet, expanding NOT fragmenting. As said, you will need your ticket varied to allow boar and deer. If you have only used rimfire you will almost certainly not get deer until you have either spent time with a qualified mentor or gained your DSC. TBH, I doubt you would get 100 acres passed for more than .22CF any way. Bit of a downer, sorry! RicW edited to add, yes you can legally lamp boar. My o
  18. If you are serious about punching paper you should start shooting .22lr under UKBR22 rules. These guys are nutcases for accuracy. To get your basic marksman ticket you have to put 5 successive 10 round groups in an average 3/4" cut circle. You are allowed one group of 1" cut but your average group must be 3/4". This is at 50 yards, and you have 30 minutes to put 50 rounds downrange. One flyer and you have to start again! Maximum mag on your scope is 12X. Opinions will vary from now on, but if I were going for serious long range shooting, I'd find clubs where I could shoot 6mm br. The top
  19. Well and good but can the dog catch it? Hypersonic JRTs are not that common under Kennel Club rules. 0 - 3500 mph in one second flat is a pretty damn quick dawg! Ric
  20. According to Wikipedia shotgun sabot rounds are now legal for hunting in most (USA) states. They give higher MV and better downrange accuracy. They are also produced in the USA for use in handguns. I haven't been able to source info about the position in the UK, but I suspect that the lack of markings on the bullet, as said above, would not go down well with the fuzz. The ultimate sabot round is fired by the 120mm cannon used in the American Leopard battle tanks. Plastic case, Depleted Uranium core, mv over 5000fps. The American tank guns are smooth bore, the 120mm in British tanks are rifle
  21. There used to be a Chinky up Highfields in Leicester where the chicken was always fresh. There were a lot of pet cats doing missing around then. Ric
  22. And just out of interest, the fastest cartridge is now the SMc 5mm/35. No factory ammo, strictly wildcat. It uses the Remington 6mm br case necked down to 5mm and has been chrono'ed firing a 29gr Berger at 4800 fps. That is not a typo, four thousand eight hundred feet per second, well over Mach4. Apparently the Swift is popular with ghillies on the grouse moors for fox up to 500yds. Ric
  23. Keep an eye/ear open for the news today (9 Mar). The BNP will be in court to hear whether their change of rules is enough to meet the legal requirements. I oppose the BNP but I support democracy. RicW
