  2. Just been doing some research. The most powerful bird known is the female Harpy Eagle. They can lift their own weight, 9kg/20lbs. So yup, they could take a Staffie. JRT would be an appetiser. Ric
  3. As said, not a big deal. Yet. Wait til the arsepac decide choke chains are next.
  4. What's the position with road tax and insurance? You'll have to be street legal between farms &c. Ric

    BOOM

    NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION
  7. In fact, most of the oil comes in through Shetland. You call a Shetlander a Scot at risk of your front teeth. They threatened to secede from Scotland and declare independence a while back. They consider themselves Vikings. Ric
  8. Worth going into a motor bike dealer. Bike cables are usually plastic coated to protect paintwork and long enough to go round a lamp post. RicW
  9. Negligible. Google "chuck hawks recoil"
  10. And to forgive divine. Ducky.
  11. And on a very different theme, I used to race pushbikes. I have seen tyres wrecked by people pouring too much oil on the chain! Moderation in all things. Ric
  12. The mum is beautiful and the wee gal is a mischievous little sweetie. OK, the Dad looks a bit of a shithead but who am I to criticise?

    BOOM

How about a poisoned dart tipped with curare? Of course it affects the brain first so Griffin would never notice . . .
  15. Great idea. I'm all in favour of hunting the Irish. Whoops . . . Ric
  16. Two things that I have learned are that foxes don't suffer anywhere near as much when killed by dogs as the antis make out, and that the lads with the dogs don't enjoy the suffering any way. We all want a quick clean kill, be it a bite to the neck or a 55gr Accutip through the head.
  17. Right you boogers. This is where I stick my neck out. I joined this site about 15 months ago. I was interested in finding out about field shooting, mainly with rifles. At the time I was moderately opposed to hunting with dogs, especially riding to hounds after foxes, but also with lurchers or terriers. I supported the Hunting Act, although I thought it was much ado about very little. I now oppose the Hunting Act and support the lads who go after Charley with their dogs. I have changed my position because of what I have learned on this site. Now you can all queue up and slag me off. Ric

Poacher - When my daughter was about 8 or 9 I got into a discussion about capital punishment, during which I made my opposition clear. One of the guys who was for the death penalty asked me how I would feel if my lass were raped and murdered. I said that if I got the chance I would make sure that by the time the killer died at my hands he would be begging me to kill him - and he would be begging for a very long time. When asked how I reconciled that with my opposition to what I had called judicial murder I said that personal revenge has an undeserved bad name. State sanctified killing is a d

Swampy - What's there to fall out about? I agree with 90% of what you say and accept the other 10% as valid argument even if I differ in my views. There are four linked strands making up the philosophy behind the British system of punishment. First is just that - punishment. It is sometimes referred to as retribution, but that slides too easily into revenge. Then comes rehabilitation. Please folks, don't go off on one about that word. What it means in context is that the prisoner should be brought to a state of mind such that s/he will not want to reoffend after release. That make
  20. Why is it that people who refuse to believe what they read in the newspapers will fall over themselves to believe any old claptrap on the net? Ric

    women

How true although I'd be quite pleased with 2 or 3 days per month! It seems that modern women these days can't cook, are dirtier than the average batchelor and are lazy as sin! Both my brothers wives are the same. I spend my time off cooking, cleaning and hoovering as I can't stand to live in such a sh*thole. Serves him right for having two.

    Eugenics

One point that gets missed is that the genetic inheritance of intelligence is a very complex mechanism. It is quite possible that the baby referred to above will have normal intelligence. A Downs syndrome man or woman can parent children who are free of the condition. It is a serious ethical problem and my view is don't go down that road. It leads straight to the death camps. Ric
  23. Right on. It's velocity that is the critical factor

And you are right Nik about the Nature vs Nurture debate. How can we separate the two when "Nurture" plays such a big role in human society? If feral underclass parents produce feral underclass children is that "Nature", ie genetics, or is it "Nurture", upbringing? Bad dogs or bad owners? This really is a very complex question. Well done the OP for raising it. Ric

The religious position intrigues me. As an atheist, I want to see that ***** suffer for as long as possible on this Earth, because when he dies he will be out of it all. But it seems to me that a good Christian should want to see him topped, so that he goes straight to Hell. I'm not trying to be funny here, there's nothing funny about it, but how come it's always the bible-bashers who want to keep these people alive? Remember that daft old git Lord Longford, trying to get Myra Hindley released? Religion fu**s your head up. Ric
