  1. chimp - you're right. Sorry if we seem to be mocking your loss. The penalties for killing people by bad driving are a mockery of justice. May your sister rest in peace. Ric
  2. Is there anybody else on this site who is offended by the name of the latest deranged Right Wing group in the States? The Tea Party? They are taking the p*ss. The Boston Tea Party kicked off the American Revolution. They are sticking the finger up to us Brits. They want us to fight their wars and then tell us to eff off and mind our own business. Tell yer what, say what you like about Harold Wilson, at least he kept us out of 'NAM. Ric (with a BIG stirring spoon in hand . . .)
  3. On me way to work, about 10 to 6am, on me 600 Kwak. No rush, staying legal. Milk man decides to save some time by nipping across the road. This is illegal, against Co-Op rules and VERY SILLY. I hit the poor guy right between the legs OUCH. I went over the bars totalled the bike and got covered in milk. And glass, bits of milk crate and blood, and broke me collar bone. He got a broken hip, broken arm and "severe bruising". He later said that he "forgave me". Cheeky twot. Ric
  4. When I was racing cycles I rode s fixed wheel Mercian! Seriously, I was apologising not for my views but for the, er, er, intemperate manner in which I expressed them. Ric
  5. Thanks so much for you comments. I will take them into consideration next time I am on a US site..... Not that your comments would be worth mentioning to any American's - Americans are aware of how the rest of the world feels about us. "Love ya man" I can feel your pain it's good to get it out because harboring resentments is like taking poison and expecting someone else to die.! SGS  SGS - I apologise. My politics are at the far end of the spectrum from yours and I had drink taken the other night. No excuse, but I just went off on one. I have a standing invitation to visit a f

    Papal visit

This is getting out of order. As the OP I am going to ask for the thread to be locked.
  8. Rifle in slipcase, bolt out, ammo separate. If you have to stop for a slash, rifle in boot/out of sight. If you have to leave the car lock it! Ric

Thanks Tom. Please stay on thread people. Good discussion so far, let's not get carried away. Ric
  10. Littletimmy - that's what I meant. you can carry an otherwise illegal knife to and from work, or to and from your permission but NOT ON YOUR PERSON. Ric

Well done bro. Why not put it up in the airguns forum on this site? As long as you are not advertising a gun/guns for sale you should be sound. Ric
  12. Very iffy with the carts but if they are locked in your toolbox you should be OK. Rifle carts, even .22lr are a whole different ballgame. WRT the knife you can legally carry a knife which would otherwise be illegal if you need it "in pursuance of your job" but it must NOT be on your person. A professional chef can carry a 15" Sabatier, a meat cleaver, a 6" boning knife etc in a closed bag on public transport on his way to and from work. A tree doctor can carry a 2 foot panga "securely closed" to and fro. A 6" knife on your belt is "possession of a lethal weapon" even if you are on you way home

    Papal visit

Hi guys. Could I have my thread back? I have catholic taste in music. Wide ranging, covering every thing from metal to Gregorian plain chant. All Christian churches do indeed claim to be catholic - with a small "c". Only the Roman Church claims the capital "C". What I am reading from this thread is that the Papal visit should be deferred until they have sorted themselves out. "Do not seek to cast out the mote from thy brother's eye until ye have cast out the beam ftom thine own eye." Of course, the Devil can quote Scripture for his own purposes . . . Satan aka Ric. Oh and as a
  14. Why do you want to change the moderators? I reckon they do a pretty good job. I know SS can be a bit dodgy but bless him, he does his best.
  15. I've been looking at this from a rather different viewpoint, arguing with antis on one of their own websites. If you are shooting them (geese, not antis) under general licence there are no restrictions on time, and you can use lead shot in a S/G. If you are shooting them under a Game Licence you have restrictions on times and you must use non-toxic shot. DON'T arsk me to make sense of it. The law is an ass. Ric Edited to add that Canada geese are on general licence because they are a major threat to native marsh waders such as lapwings, nor because of crop damage.
  16. I found one, repear one, query about working a JRT. The mods had blocked the thread. Says it all. :wankerzo4: RicW

    Papal visit

Good replies all. There are two important points not yet raised. Certainly paedophiles occur in all walks of life, but only the Catholic Church is exclusively celibate. I am not claiming that celibacy leads to paedophilia but are paedophiles attracted to the church because of the opportunities? The Pope has yet to say the hardest word: "SORRY". He has tried to cover up, then when the extent of the abuse became clear he walked all around the houses to avoid apologising. I am willing to accept for the sake of argument that he is personally in the clear but can he not apologise on behalf

    Papal visit

This has nothing to do with hunting but it strikes me as worth discussion amongst ourselves. We cover a pretty wide range of opinion on a variety of subjects. Given the extent of the controversy within the Catholic Church about paedophiliac behaviout by priests, should the Papal visit to the UK be cancelled, or deferred? I do NOT want to start a name calling contest. If you respond, please keep it civil. My own view is that the visit should go ahead as planned, but there is increasing pressure to cancel it. Ric
  21. I raised my question with reference to humane killing of an injured beast, rather than possession of the carcass. Frankly, I don't give a monkey's who owns the body. I'd like to know the position about the necessity for a humane final shot. Apologies to the OP if I am hijacking your thread. Ric
  22. TT - interesting but it seems to leave one question open. Suppose the wounded animal runs off your permission and you have reason to believe that it is seriously hurt and suffering. Can you shoot over the land where you do not have permission to give the animal the coup de gras? In the ordinary way deliberately to shoot over that land would be an offence but you would be doing it for humane reasons. Ric
