  1. BAH! HUMBUG! Get yersen a Duke and stop pissanting around. CBR blah blah blah. Been there ran one bo-o-o-ring. I do like yer taste in music tho'. Ric
  2. You have very little chance of getting even a .22lr or .17HMR for "the purpose of" shooting fox. FAC air I would say you have no chance. Seems to me your best bet is to apply for your FAC for .22 or HMR for rabbits and long range pest birds ON THE GROUND, and occasional fox. Don't bother with FAC air. It has it's uses and can be a useful tool but .22lr will cover most of it. YIS Ric
  3. That's sounds like the answer mate, doubt if plod would have come out but at least it would have been logged Would that of been by special branch. Leaf it out
  4. Health and Safety. Yours! Minimise disturbance to local residents, avoid alerting quarry, and look after your lug'oles. Really! Ric
  5. I saw a pair of bluetits lying on the lawn. So I went across and warmed them up for her.
  6. Logic, common sense, a basic understanding of statistics, an IQ of more than Versus Blind ignorant bigoted racist stupidity. Ho-hum.
  7. I'm not trying to come the old acid here mate, but why have you chosen HMR? What do you plan to shoot with it? Why not .22lr? The point is, at your interview the FEO will ask these and more questions. If you have sensible answers there should be no problem, but if the FEO decides you haven't looked into the matter properly he is likely to refuse your ticket until you learn more. Like I say, no offence intended, and if you are on the case already go for it. ATB, Ric
  8. Can't pass its genes on? FFS, it was 12 years old. What's it been doing in the past 11 years? Masturbating? :wankerzo4: :wankerzo4: :wankerzo4: Ric
  9. Trophy hunters don't leave the carcass complete with antlers by the side of the road. Poachers disturbed before the job was finished is my guess. Ric
  10. Bright guy. Builds a good hammergun. Talks sense on wildlife sites.

  11. That makes the .243 an even better choice! As your eldest grows into 7-08 he can pass the .243 on, then by the time he's up to a 30-06, and passed the 7-08 down, the wee lad will just about cope with the .243! I do think that your lads will do better starting at the lower end of the suitable calibres and working up. Apart from anything else, they will learn shot placement. YIS, Ric
  12. I've just had a look at Chuck Hawks recoil energy chart. He says that over ~7ft.lbs starts to feel like a kick rather than a push. .243 with 100gr bullet:- 8.8 6.5 x 55 with 140gr :- 10.5 7 - 08 with 140gr :- 12.6 Bearing in mind that Hawk's comment was as regards an adult shooter, it looks like the .243 is favourite for your son. The 7-08 would have a real risk of him developing trigger flinch. Ric
  13. Err . . the guy asked about rimmies vs cf. In practical terms, .22lr max 100yds. .17HMR 150yds if your'e a decent shot. Sensibly speaking, if you want to shoot beyond 100 yds, or owt bigger than a bunny, you need a .220cf. As I see it anyroad. Ric PS or a smoothbore!
  14. PM Urban Pest Controller who is a regular in the shooting forums. I'm sure he will confirm live trap and humane dispatch with .22lr or .410, but ask the man himself. Ric
  15. An FAC in England and Wales cannot specify ammunition other than "expanding" for live shooting. If your FAC is target only, you cannot buy expanding ammo. If it is for vermin and/or deer, you should ask for expanding ammo to be specified. Bullet weight, MV and ME do NOT go on the ticket. There are rules about minimum ballistics but these are separate from your FAC. Different in Scotland I believe, but still no rules about subs for .22lr. Ric
  16. Not a put-down, but why not post this in the Air-gun forum? There are some good blokes there who can give you better advice than you'll get from us powder burners! Ric
  17. Google "Calico 9mm" and look at their 9mm full auto pistol with the 50 round helical mag if you get really antsy about pistols. Or their 9mm SMG with the 100 round mag. Or their .22lr pistol with 100 round mag. FFS, these people were seriously deranged. Ric
  18. Meantime, back in the real world . . The Glock 17 was designed for the Austrian Army. As supplied, it was double action only. Since the only way it could fire was by pulling through on the trigger, no safety catch was thought necessary. When it sold on the open market, it was also provided in single action. The S/A guns have a push-through button to lock the trigger. Glocks are not particularly good guns anyway. They are too light, making it difficult to hold them on POA after one shot; they are flimsily built; the trigger has a nasty creepy feel and far too long pull through. They only got so
  19. .357 Magnum 2" barrel concealed carry. The big autos are combat weapons. I ain't likely to need the firepower on civvy street. Stull got a soft spot for my old M1911A .45 ACP tho' Ric
