Okay, so as I thought. Radiation workers all over the world have safe limits to work within. NASA do too and a Mars mission is within these. It's really a non issue for a one time trip. I've seen the increased risk estimated at like 5% .... so less than a lifetime of eating bacon! For a much grander space travel network yes it becomes a serious factor which is why I mention dedicated deep space ships with sufficient shielding. Which is obviously challenging but far far from impossible. Why is it not viable? Do you know what the costs are? What's the economical viability threshold in yo

Do we? In the field of radiation safety it is somewhat erroneously assumed that any radiation at any level is bad, full stop. And yet we have acceptable limits for pragmatism. For NASA the exposure from a Mars mission would be within that limit based on measurements taken by probes that have done the journey already. So you'll have to be more specific. What type of radiation is it that is of particular concern with a Mars mission that is expected to exceed current acceptable limits? I'm taking your word on all of that but it's really irrelevant because a Mars mission would be with

I don't think it's a massive hurdle really. The various heavy lift rocket platforms in various stages of development have in excess of 100 ton payloads to LEO with R&D bringing OpEx costs down considerably and consistently. Dedicated deep space vehicles with sufficient shielding and designs that provide artificial gravity etc could be built out of Earth's gravity well, or at least off the ground, in orbit or similar. Heavy lift rockets or a breakthrough technology like the SABRE engine would be used as shuttles to transport materials, fuel, people and cargo to the 'off world docks'. E

Radiation isn't an insurmountable hurdle for travel or a limited colonisation project. Shielding, reduced exposure times etc. Not to mention the long list of volunteers who just wouldn't care. I really do see habitation projects on Mars as a few steps down the line from space stations orbiting Earth. The first step really is a similar project on the moon. The technology can be tested more easily there. Once the financial viability of mars and the moon are established and the technology advances in the way that capitalism naturally encourages then I think the outer planets will draw much m

I agree that the media as a whole are slanted against Trump. If they had a scrap on Trump then they, generally, would almost certainly be acting up on it. I can't comment specifically on this woman though because this is literally the first time I've seen her, and based on what I saw she behaved in a way I'd like to see more of in the media, no matter the news. It's not a reporters job to tell me how to feel, just to deliver the facts. I'll decide if someone is a terrorist or a freedom fighter so to speak. But politics has deteriorated so much over the last four years that it seems everyo

What's the crack with southern Ireland?
Born Hunter replied to Neobliviscaris1776's topic in General Talk
Wilf reckoned there’s next to f**k all compared the the UK. Too much killing and not enough keepering. No offence intended to the Irish. -
Like total recall and about a million other sci fi films, shows and books. Lol I don’t think it’s technically possible to turn Mars into another earth. It’s gravity isn’t strong enough to hold sufficient atmosphere. I think it’s an inevitability. Exploration for one. But I think it’ll be profitable soon enough. Space is now an accepted commercial domain and even a war fighting domain. It’s big business and the technology is racing off to keep up. I believe we will have colonies all over the system to support commercial and scientific operations. Mining, tourism, science, war wil

Dunno about the past, don't really care tbh. The future though, yes to colonies living in biodomes, no to a fully terraformed habitable planet.

Totally agree. I understand why he did that, I would probably have done too. When you walk into a situation expecting agro you can very often be the cause of it simply through distorted judgement. Trump has attracted unholy amounts of agro and I'm sure it's a hell of a job remaining level headed when you find yourself shoved in front of the media to represent his side. She did f**k up on quoting his use of the word "insurrection" which he objected to and then she gave him the chance to correct her. I thought that was reasonable of her, but equally a bit sloppy to have not done her homewor

Ah fair, then I apologise. I honestly thought you were being sarcastic given it followed "Her political bias is displayed as soon as she turns up for work lol". But fair, I get ya now.
-
Do you want to make a point or just avoid actually answering anything? What the hell are you trying to say? I completely understand "totally innocent"? Now make a point with it.....
-
I did, it was just irrelevant because the reporter didn't make any claim that Trump was guilty. In fact she explicitly said he was acquitted. So I guess you didn't watch the clip, too busy on the trump train for actual facts, huh? So I ask once again. How was she displaying bias or trivialising the facts?
-
I'll ask again, how were her words biased? Matey alleged that she said things that she very conclusively did not to justify his outburst. She laid out the details of "doctored evidence", as a reporter should, and he lost his shit making claims that she used words she did not to trivialise the facts. Getting behind this nonsense is as bad as the the legitimate cases of media bias.
-
But how? What did she say that trivialised it? He even claimed later on that she said something that she didn't. I went back a re-watched her inflammatory words for clarity of my own. IMO he went into that interview expecting her to behave that way and as a result manifested a fight. She was doing her job of clarifying the events impartially. Case in point, If the examples of doctoring were instead "planting dead bodies at the scene, planting covert agents to initiate violence and staging vandalism" then no one would be accusing her of bias because those things sound bad. Whereas cha
-
How so? He mentioned "doctored evidence" and she said "to clarify for the viewers, this was....". It was totally factual. She didn't use any words to trivialise it, like "this was just/only/simply..." How could she have been more impartial in reporting the facts? Or should she not have mentioned what he meant by 'doctored evidence'?
-
I liked everything he said and I would likely have reacted the same after such a case but it 100% was an overreaction. She clarified exactly what he meant by 'doctored' and he lost his shit. There was no slant or bias from her.

Bought my first pair probably two years or more ago. One of them leaked within the first season of use so I binned them so bought another pair sometime last winter I think and they seem to be spot on. But tbh I only wear them occasionally and for light stuff. I wear lace up boots for anything half serious and frankly even for most dog walks. If the first pair hadn't of leaked I'd be singing their praises by now. I understand every brand has the odd dud but it just makes me a bit cautious. I've had a couple pairs of Solognac trousers for 2-3 seasons now and a mate has just bought jack
-
Keep ya receipt. My first pair leaked. I'd still recommend them, but just keep the receipt. Pretty sure THESE were what I had/have. Thought they only cost £45 though. Brexit? Not sure I'd pay £60 for another pair!

Considering that Biden was supposed to be in Beijing's pocket, he's not exactly living up to it. He's pretty much continued the Trump administration high pressure stance, most recently by deploying not one but two carrier battle groups to the SCS!

Can anybody point me at what sort of hose to use on the exhaust of a chainsaw? Long story short, I used to have one on my smoker but I don't now. I can't be arsed with scraping about scrap piles, if you can tell me what I need I'll just buy it. Cheers
