LOL, no just you don’t understand it at all.
-
I said white wasn’t advantageous in the uk based on the fact that the colour variant doesn’t propagate well and remains rare. We’d need to do your experiment to test your theory.
-
No not by my logic, by yours. It might survive just fine, it’d depend on the environment. Just because white isn’t advantageous in the uk doesn’t mean red isn’t elsewhere too. And quite clearly it is.
-
Has anyone said they were surprised? LOL
-
If neither you or I know what the red foxes ancestor is we can’t say it’s a throwback, which funny enough, I wasn’t. Lol. Whether or not the white was caused by a recent mutation or an inherited recessive colour variant from an ancient mutation isn’t really the point. It doesn’t propagate successfully because it’s likely not advantageous.
-
Whereas you do see spotted lions? Ha! Did you mean leopards mate?
-
You don’t throw back to a cousin though, lol. You throw back to something that came before, a grandparent etc. Im not strictly sure what that was though mate. But no I don’t think whites are a throw back. I think they’re simple mutations that are not advantageous.

Colour variation in badgers does seem a bit more common than in foxes doesn’t it. I sort of wondered if it’s because it’s not particularly disadvantageous to a a badger to be an abnormal colour so they don’t suffer as much. As in a fox is much more of a stealth hunter so dependant on concealment, whereas a badger isn’t. I’d not really considered their likeliness to inbreed due to their respective living behaviours. But now you mention it
-
That’s perfectly scientific, lol. The practicalities of artificially preserving a mutation means you have to breed very tight. Breeding tight results in abnormalities. When nature preserves a mutation due to it being advantageous it does it with in a much larger population than a stockman has and so doesn’t suffer in the same way.

I don’t think the red fox has ever had a white ancestor? The Arctic’s aren’t an ancestor, they’re a cousin I think. Anyway, back to the point. If white was advantageous, it’d become common. It’s not, so the gene just fizzles out through natural selection.

Totally understand socks concern over the dogs age. But my thinking would be the dog sired a full litter only a year ago and i can always find another stud for the next time she comes in if it fails, but an old dog like that might not ever be available again. And these Russel whippets aren’t exactly ten a penny. Just my thinking. Which is easy when I don’t have any of the responsibility for it. HA

If foxes were evolving they wouldn’t be red with the occasional abnormality, they’d be turning white and red would be the rarity. Nature obviously does the choosing. Natural selection isn’t like a test on the last day of cub school ffs. Lol. Of course some Cubs survive. Some might even go on to breed and pass their colour on. But on the whole nature seems to eradicate this mutation when it crops up and it’s not hard to figure why really. White is hardly the best concealment for a hunter. Not to mention koinophilia, which is where mates tend to reject mates that don’t look ‘normal’.

In the same way that other handicapped animals die off taking with the their handicap.

I must say it’d be a fecking shame not to try that dog of Tylas. Seems perfect given the short notice. And it’d be fascinating to see some well bred alternatives to the beddies.

I genuinely think traditions like this are a products of millennia of Palaeolithic initiation rights and ritual. The hunting of megafauna was central to our ancestors lives for so long that I really do believe it’s genetically hard coded. ‘Civilised’ ways of scratching that itch manifest in all sorts of ways. I’m not making a moral argument for it but I’m a believer in being very cautious in forcing people away from their nature.

Because rates have dropped? That’s just the nature of markets, it’s not worth getting hung up on over short periods like three years.

2008.... LOL

I have no idea what that means I have in the past owned a van or two though

No mate, just particle accelerator, reactor, sealed lab, dungeons and missile silo.
-
No mate, just already done. New builds ain’t really what I was after.

I’d rather sell an organ than do a house up! It’s the way to make money but f**k me dead does it make me want to kill myself. Take a step back and reevaluate.... maybe you’ll be able to pick an organ you don’t need. Ha

Frustrating being straight ain’t it! Loans like investments, the more you pay early the more you’ll benefit. Im where I want to be now so I’m not breaking my back to pay it off. You gotta find balance.

God no! Haha. Something with a grain that I found on eBay.

Tbf there was nothing that I inherently disliked about the stock, until it snapped in half one day when the rifle slipped off my shoulder! That was remedied with the aftermarket thumbhole and a vorn rucksack.

I know Tikka has a strong following on here but I honestly wasn't happy with mine until I had a after market stock and a aluminium trigger guard/mag well. Coupled with Swaro optics and reloads it's now a robust precise tool that I have total confidence in performing. Those two things were added over years as and when, so not essential at all but I feel it's only fair to tell the truth rather than just tell you they're great.
