  1. Unfortunately it really doesnt surprise me with some of the people that are invovled with lurchers. I would gladly take a tool to the cruel buggers
  2. Better luck than we had. Out all morning and found f**k all.
  3. HAHA, keep typing, your funny as feck!
  4. As far as im concerned a foxing lurchers true worth is during the day. So the dog has to have a good nose, hellish prey drive and desire to hunt. Also be in tune with dogs working cover, terriers working earths and yourself makes daytime lurcher work more productive. Give me a lurcher that finds, catches and kills during the day but may only be able to be worked once a week over the gamest point and fire type any day. However, nobody can deny how usefull a good bull lurcher is.
  5. Mine was just like that. Regularly just pissing off on walks from 4 months old for up to an hour at a time hunting, jumping the fence in the garden the second she knew she was out of reach to look for cats in the village, she even ran as fast as she could from me across a field because she remembered seeing a hare in the same field days ago so she went looking for it, problem being she decided to hunt the rough banking next to the A1 looking for her imaginary hare!!!! As hard as i tried me and her just couldnt bond, I took her everywhere with me and training everyday but she was such an indepe
  6. Depends how 'well' trained the dog is. Should still have a few years left in it yet and would be ideal for someone wanting a dog to work while they bring on a pup perhaps. Anyway the dog looks well put together and a nice type imo.

  8. 400 years since the winter solstice and a lunar elcipse coincided
  9. Do you run it on bio? My mate couldnt make it down the other night because the diesel in his engine was freezing! Rang the bloke that sells him his bio and the bloke said it must have been a dodgey batch as a few others had the same issue.
  10. Makes alot of sense that Like your signature poem too
  11. One thing I really like about the running dog world is it doesnt matter what a dog looks like or how its bred, all that matters is how well it grafts. Now all this "thats not a 'true' lurcher, its a longdog" or vice versa is aload of bollocks! If ya wanna get technical then yes they are different with obviously a margin a grey area inbeteween. But who really gives a feck? We breed and work running dogs (whatever you wish to call em) to suit our own specific needs and preferences and at the end of the day if the dog fits the bill of a running dog and can catch its quarry on the run then I think
  12. Ive got a mate whos 30 and has been ferreting with me for 2 seasons now and he cant kill a rabbit to save his life! Ive showed him a hundred times exactly how even had him practice on dead rabbits and hes still bloody useless. The look of amazement on his face when i pick up a netted rabit and drop it stone dead 2 secs later always makes me laugh. Just practice on already dead rabbits untill you have the knack, its very easy once you have done it a few times. Its not a matter of muscle power, more knowing how to do it.
  13. Good post Them bails look like they're gonna be fun for you this season.
  14. Mines a fecking handfull! Prey drive in bucket fulls, just wants to hunt all the time we're out, mine isnt the sort of dog that tollerates standing about for long when she could be off hunting. As intelligent as ill ever want a lurcher to be. Mine has thrown quite racey for only half greyhound but thats the nature of lurcher to lurcher. I couldnt tell you if shes any good on fox because shes not been entered, yet.
  15. We're not shooting this saturday. The birds are having a hard enough time as it is just survivng, without having to dodge shot as well! The foxes on the other hand will be getting our full attention...
  16. The little bit of terrier work im involved with, we never work bales as there arnt any on the land we work, all kicked out rabbit earths and drains. My point; what type of terriers do people prefer for bale work? I shouldnt imagine taking the stack apart to get to your terrier is often an option.
  17. Is she holding you back on a days hunting with being the age she is? If not then let her crack on, if she is then you may have a hard decision to make. Not all dogs are meant for retirement, they just dont have it in em to sit at home by the fire while your out with the others. But even if she is struggling a bit to keep up the pace with you and the others, if you can be flexible for her then alls good. Your the only one whos able to make the decision and your the only one you have to answer to. atb BH
  18. Same here, and me being the twat i am i only brought a thin pair a cheap fingerless woolen gloves . Keeper couldnt let me suffer any longer on the quad and gave me a pair of thick skiing gloves. My bloody fingers were killing me up till then, I kept having to drive the quad left handed while i warmed my right hand with my mouth! lol. Fecking dangerous but thank god for 4 wheel drive quads. lol
  19. This site used to be full of threads like this, well written, well though out and perfectly legal accounts of lads and their dogs jaunts out. Then the keyboard warriors joined the site and is it any wonder such quality posts are so rare???
  20. I have been waiting for this book to be published since the day I first heard of it being written. The lurcherman’s bookshelf is seriously lacking in quality advice and knowledge in literature on treating working injuries, illness, feeding, fitness, kennelling and general maintenance of our hounds. The book was waiting for me on the kitchen table a couple of days ago now and my initial flick through gave a good first impression, hard backed, colour photos, many explicit injury photos and well defined chapters. I haven’t yet fully read the book (it’s quite a book, 220+ pages), h
  21. Well, ya cant say fairer than that can ya! They look well reared pups
  22. slips are worth theyr weight in gold when in company, an a pain in the arse if ye out solo Also worth there weight in gold when the beam hits something you would rather not run as well...
  23. Heard on the grape vine today that a lurcher was taken recently near me (near Newark), the dog was nicked then found and returned then nicked again straight away! The dog must have escaped the theives some how and the ballsey wankers actually had the nerve to come back and nick it again!!! Its f*****g disgusting, I dont know what I would do if I caught dog thieves (wouldnt like to think about it). Only 3 people worse than dog thieves imo, peados, rapists and murderers, dog thieves arnt far behind.
  24. I would be asking who the fucks got the big gob and shutting it sharpish. Some people just dont understand the consiquences of their 'pub talk'
