Why though? Why should the decent subjects be funded? If everybody has to pay tuition fees and get the choice to the same level of student loans to cover them, regardless of family wealth/income, it has the effect of stopping people taking degrees that won't see a decent return in career and wage. All the degrees worth taking and in demand don't have that negative because at the end the student knows he/she will be earning. The fees simply haven't put people off doing worthwhile degrees.

You're right about the state/private school thing. Money makes a difference there, but I've no problem with that. We work harder than our neighbours to give our kids better lives than our neighbours kids, I like that. But imo University fees are a good thing, put a lot of half arsed students off going to Uni for half arsed degrees. The only people Uni fees have hit are the middle classes, they get very little if any funding as their parents are expected to stump up the cash as it's assumed their disposeable income is sufficient. The bottom end of the income ladder get plenty of funding and

But how does it make you selfish? We've just established the native UK population is fairly sustainable. Why should we have a 2 child policy and see regression in population size? Further more why should people who have the ability to completely fund their own family be restricted? Sod the rest of the world, our 70M is piss in the Indian and Chinese Oceans. Let them worry about how they are gonna feed and house their own.

That's a curious statement. ???

Alright, I'm nothing if not honest when wrong. I was wrong about the White British poulation 'exploding', I was completely missinformed on that one. It looks to have seen steady growth but nothing terribly drastic, assuming the immigrant population was negligeable pre 50s? The majority of our total poulation growth is indeed down to immigration. So I'll appolagise on that one mate. Either way, my point stands about welfare in this country. Mass immigration was welcomed in a short sighted attempt to keep us all sweet with our benefits. The electorate are as much to blame as the Gov. So
-
Max, the UK population in the 50s was already at 50M. Yeah immigration is bad, but we've got plenty of other problems to address as well.
-
I agree with most of that Max but you can't blame the population explosion soley on immigration. It's just not true.
-
Max, I knew you would blame immigration and that has indeed added to the rate of growth. But the immigrant population of this Island sits at around 10% I believe? Yet the total population has grown much more than that. The native population has exploded as well and that is because of our welfare state. House prices will be tied to this, supply and demand, simple economics. Immigration has been used to prop up this welfare system at the expense of our society on the street level. I agree. It's a vicious circle! But suppose a hard line party came along that wanted to axe our countrys ben

Max, there's a lot wrong with the system. Yeah it's very hard for some people on lower incomes and also imo very unfair for what I would consider the middle classes who imo get taxed unfairly (I'm not one of these middle class either). Initially I was simply pointing out to Paulus that 150k and 70% LTV is unrealistic for first time buyers. Also how most of us at the bottom of the property ladder have unrealistic expectation and need to drop them. As for single mums, young families etc our welfare system is still pretty supportive of them imo. I believe there are also schemes for lower

Off the top of my head 2-3 years. Like I said, how bad do they want it?

Look, I don't want to knock anybody, it ain't easy being young and wanting your independance, I want the world and it can't come fast enough! The national job situation is a bitch right now and has been for 4 years or more. But housing is out there for those that are willing to cut back on their lives and expectations a bit. We all have to make sacrifices to get what we want. Lifes a f***ing bitch!

Virtually impossible..... you know a lot about me do ya?

Probably mate but it was still better than now. Maggie allowed people to start their own business, buy their own home rather than rent from the council, she did a lot of good. how was selling off social housing stock good!!! not many youngsters can afford to buy a house any more, you take a young couple on minimum wage looking at buying an average house costing say 150k and requiring a 30% deposit, you do the maths, then do the same calculation for private renting at 550 a month, it was never going to happen no wonder are youth are fooked Then they are looking in the wrong areas

Exactly born, you buy what you can afford. Paulus is all doom and gloom Nothing more depressing than house shopping. Reality hits you with a sledge hammer, LOL.

I'd politely tell them that if they are going to enforce the law then maybe they should spend 5 minutes learning it. I'd then take their names and numbers and report them to their boss. And if they are being proper c**ts, I'd be recording the whole thing on my phone.
