  1. You sound like you know what you're doing. If you're baiting them then it's daft to use a noisey short range shotgun when you have the rimmy. But take em whatever way you can, mooch the coverts and hedges with the shotty and bait and lamp with the rifle. Just shoot the f***ing things on sight and you'll soon get shot of them. I did used to enjoy hunting them with terrier and shotgun though. We get the odd one show up now but not getting 5+ litters a year like we used to. Get on top of them and stay on top of them. It's pretty straight forward stuff.
  2. I've shot plenty with shotguns, 12 bore and .410. It really depends on your land imo, there's no reason you can't use both rimmy and shotty. I've killed a lot in coverts using a terrier to flush or tree them and then 36gms of BB. They're not the hardest predator to get on top of.
  3. Right, the only reason I suggested you get an experienced ferreter to write your "3 paragraphs" was because personally I don't consider you qualified to write 3 lines on working ferrets never mind three paragraphs. It was constructive critisism which was taken exactly how I expected you to take it quite frankly. Do what the f**k you want I was only trying to help you keep some credibility. Fieldsports authors writing about stuff they know little about get absolutely ridiculed over here, maybe in the states it's acceptable, f**k knows. I meant no harm by it and that's the last I'll comment on t
  4. Beating, waiting for the main line to bring a few fields in; Caged up; Waiting again; End result of a August evening flushing rabbits to the gun; Shot 8 that day, cracking bit of pre season sport! No pics of rough shooting days really as I'm usually enjoying the shooting too much, LOL. Like I said, nothing special but does me for what I want as an allrounder.
  5. Lab, I'm not professing to have anything special but my little tyke is a steady thing, she'll not sit to flush or owt like that but she'll not put anything up out of gun shot and she'll walk to heel through and past game, albeit begrudgingly. She swims like a f***ing otter after ducks and hunts fur better than any gundog I've seen. She used to have a cracking retrieve on her but I think I f****d that up bollocking her for stealing the lurchers catches when out bushing, now she will just find shot game and fetch it out of cover. It's something I shoud rectify really and not just put up with. Sh
  6. Got to admit, I've never seen a spaniel work bramble and thorns like a decent terrier. But a terrier will struggle with thick ditches and what I would call heavy set-a-side where a bit of leg and power is needed.
  7. Pete, if that's the case think how much it'll grind their gears getting so many unfavourable votes in their own back yard! HAHA, if nothing else it'll spite the fuckers!
  8. That's smart as feck mate! Now, feck those domestic fowl off, get abit of folliage in it, feed barley every evening, knock up a hide and flight it once a fortnight!
  9. I'd certainly avoid a water birth....
  10. Dunno about 14 Int. Nick, that was all a bit top secret as they basically lived in Ireland when on a tour with false names the works. The SRR have the standard UKSFs Excaliber and scroll but with a spartan-esque helmet as a cap badge.
  11. The SRR is a Tier 1 special forces regiment like the SAS and SBS. They draw from other special forces and the wider UK military, RMs, Paras, etc. They're basically 14 Int. rebranded to my understanding. Yeah they specialise in intelligence gathering and counter terrorism, freeing the SAS to specialise in direct action but are trained by the SAS to do exactly that I believe. That's why they work alongside MI5, CO19 etc with this stuff, they are a military unit designed with a similar objective. Anyway, the only reason I mention all this is in defence of our security services. Didn't mean to
  12. It's because he trains his Mink using Falconry techniques. I'm with you on it though TOMO.
  13. Not from what I've read Scott. From what I've read they were Army Intelligence operators from the Special Reconnaissance Regiment. Basically an Army Intelligence unit attached to and trained by the SAS. They specialise in intelligence gathering and counter terrorism, born in Northern Ireland. They will have been seconded to the Police for their specific skills in the area and to avoid the government the embarassment of having to admit to deploying the Army. It's many experts opinion the engagement and killing was textbook SFs. But f**k knows, I'm just going off what I've read, I'm hardly J
  14. That's SFs mate. It's standard practice for them, look at the guy in the Embassey in 1980, + shots for one kill! Just another job in their minds. And with bombers whether SFs or CO19 the head shot is the only option. It was an intelligence f**k up at a time when London was moving with threats. That's not an excuse and there will have been a lot learnt from it. There is a certain amount of anonymity and understanding allowed to our top end anti terror units, so they're not second guessing themselves in the heat of the moment. But they are all accountable. I guess my thinking is regards thes
  15. Just to add, I said it wasn't a procedural cock up. What I meant was they made the right judgement call to kill a suspected bomber. In light of what happened they should have engaged him sooner before he became such a threat. For whatever reason they didn't but I imagine that has been changed since these events.
  16. Scott mate, he ran to the tube and they engaged him, they made a judgement call there and then. They had identified him as a bomber from the previous day and followed him, he ran for the tube and so they had to engage him as a bomber. IF the intel had been correct and he had been one of the suspects we wouldn't be having this conversation and it would be a job well done. They had no choice based on the intelligence they had. It was an intelligence cock up, not a procedural one. They followed procedure to perfection. It's not an excuse but I can understand it. As for the attempted cover
  17. Well obviously! LOL. Hindsight is always viewed with 20/20 vision. So you believe they should take the policy of "errr maybe he's not a bomber" with every incident? I simply don't agree with that because it would be the most ineffective and dangerous policy for everyone. They have to trust their intelligence and act ruthlessly, I would be ashamed with anything less. wow that suprises me mate. were not talking about some war zone here.its the streets of britain.your gonna draw a gun and shoot some c**t then i want more than just a fleeting glance at someones arse. that could have been anyo
  18. Everybody starts off as a ferreter. But then as you progress in skill and ability you ditch the ferts and get poley hybrids! You're then a 'Poley Wrangler'......... Malt is nearly there! He can't wait to get his first EU poley hybrid! Ferreter, as everybody else has said.
  19. 42% in favour of relaxing the Ban. It's a good point the MP makes. The 'ban' just makes a mockery of our legal system. When a government becomes overbearing it doesn't encourage respect of the authorities or the system!
  20. So if we have a group of 100 random people, split it in two, group A drinks heavy and smokes 40 a day, group B simply doesn't. Which group do you reckon will die off faster? You're always going to get exceptions.
  21. Without sounding too much of a twat, perhaps consider getting someone who has a lifetime of experience and education on the subject of ferrets and polecats to write that small section for you? As a guest writter perhaps. I think your book will be better respected for it. Just a thought, no offence intended.
  22. You don't need to convince me GTE, I think the GC is flawed and I think our attitudes to war are unrealistic and as a result Blackman has been tried for a war crime when he should simply have been tried for breaking British Military protocol. But the difference still remains, Blackman was under no immediate threat, he did not have to shoot the insurgent whereas the CO19 officer believed he/she was under immediate threat and had no option.
