  1. Para in the SA Army to PH in the Dark Continent, the man sounds like the lead character from a nineteenth century novel! What a life. Anyway, part II from this series.... http://www.fieldsportsmagazine.com/Shooting-Stalking/close-calls-part-2.html PS. I've really enjoyed reading some of the many articles from thefieldsportsmagizine.com. Cracking stuff if you're a shooting man with a broad interest.
  2. I've only skimmed this thread so someone might have already said this... It wouldn't be a question of whether my conscience could deal with the consequences, it would be whether I could look myself in the mirror knowing I took a life for immoral and cowardly reasons. Simply I'd sleep fine, but I'd know in my heart that I'm worthless. I could rationalise killing children if the decision dictated that was the lesser evil but the fact that people die pointlessly all the time is not justification for then taking an unknowns life. There are of course other considerations. What if circum
  3. Lovely cock bird, very well presented. Would look cracking as a pair with a hen.
  4. Can you not pay to tag along with an outfitter on a non commercial hunt where nothing is killed? I assume that happens, I mean if each lion hunter only gets a few lion tags that's not very much hunting the hounds are getting in a season. Is the bobcat hunting similar or a bit of a poor-mans choice compared to lions?
  5. I don't want to hunt and kill one because I hate them, lol. If I ever get to pull the trigger on a wolf there will be no malice behind it. I want to hunt wolf for the same reason I want to hunt anything else on my wish list.
  6. Thats my dream hunt, check out the size of byron stewarts pussy cats, google his name and the alberta company he guides for tracks n trails, his cats are huge. Just read this from your recommendation. http://forums.bowsite.com/tf/bgforums/thread.cfm?forum=16&threadid=361611 Decent read!
  7. I could spend some money on hunting over there! Wolf would be a must for me, a challenging hunt and get a lovely pelt and scull out of it. Spot & stalked black bear would be another and some sort of mountain hunt, sheep or elk I guess. Compared to the UK the N.Americans shoot so little but any given hunt can be much more of an 'occasion' if you get me. For example, a UK deerstalker that does a bit might be out stalking 2-3 or more times a week, potentially killing hundreds of deer a year. Over there in the lower 48 or the North they'll feck off for a week, maybe kill one animal but sti
  8. That's what I'm saying from where I'm standing Waddington is to my south-west, the plane is circling to my north-east and occasionally disappears over the horizon. It's either landing or doing some serious descending. At a guess it's preparing to land at Waddington. They do massive circuits waiting to land, often very low. I've seen the AWACS doing the same as far away as Nottingham/Loughborough. You're no further from Waddington than that really. All RAF ISTAR aircraft are based there so it seems most plausible. Perhaps someone else knows and wants to chip in???
  9. How much is a Wolf tag and do they have them on Kodiak? To be honest hunting anything out there for a week would be f***ing excellent, even just f***ing about after ptarmigan/grouse. Aye, 22k is a bit steep.
  10. I'm not sure if you've misunderstood me. I'm well aware they're easy to tell apart, lol. I mentioned AWACS because they're based at Waddo with the Rivets and all other ISTAR assets and I've seen them as far away circling prior to landing, therefore suggesting that the Rivet in question could easily have been waiting to land at Waddo.
  11. Pretty sure the Libyans are not part of the OPEC agreed reduction, along with the Iranians and the Nigerians. Indonesia aren't either after suspending their membership. The market surplus is 2-300k bpd and the expected cuts from OPEC and a few other players is about 1.8m bpd. There's a fair margin for leeway there I think. I think there will be a lot of shale suddenly come on line keeping the price suppressed though. And don't forget global demand continues to increase. We were seeing a production surplus of over 1.5m bpd this time last year. That has closed significantly due to demand
  12. Maybe someone else will know, but looking at a map I've seen AWACS doing the same as far from Waddo as the Rivet you saw. I'll take a shot and say it landed there. I know a man who will know for sure mind....
  13. Waddington is base for all the RAFs ISTAR stuff to my knowledge. I often see AWACS circling readying to land there and I'm usually miles away to the south and west.
  14. Okay I admit, it was me........... i find the sight of the soulless b*****ds very disturbing!
  15. From what I've seen their best use is within city limits on a small scale. I can see this increasing, but replacing the general car I just can't see it myself....When I was a kid we thought we would all have hover cars now!...haha Modern electric cars are getting ranges of 3-400 miles now, that sort of level will make them very practical for everyday folks. Further improvements in battery tech and production I can definitely see them replacing the internal combustion engine. I am seeing more on driveways with the cables running through the house windows on charge. I think that will be the o

  17. Battery tech is the barrier for moving away from hydrocarbons. The industry has legs in it yet, at least until I retire. f**k me is that me accepting this shit for the next 40yrs? LOL Even if you knock a lot of oil services on the head, there's still the need mineral commodities and 100 yrs into the future rare earth elements mined beyond this Earth.
  18. That's what I keep getting told but we'll see. Interesting times for those that are left. Iron ore/mining is another thing I have worked on and that f****r dropped like a lead balloon at the same time as Brent, LOL.
  19. I think the oversupply is bigger than that but it's the inventories that are the problem. It's going to take a while to bring them down. I swear to god I could almost cry if this happens. I didn't work for 8 months of this year, we've taken pay cut after pay cut for the work we do, most of our clients went bankrupt, I know loads of people who lost their jobs hell I even had to sell my house although ended up somewhere nice because of it. It's been one hell of a couple of years https://www.iea.org/oilmarketreport/omrpublic/ I had a look here earlier at the market surplus. S
  20. LOL, been watching this for a while! My employer is in such a shit state I'm not sure the Brent price is even relevant! LOL A steady $60/bl wouldn't hurt things though. They're talking of 1.2 mbl/d OPEC cut and a further 600k non OPEC, but the oversupply is only, what, 250k?
  21. I'm utterly intolerable if you try to feed me tomatoes or custard! It's the skins on tomatoes that make me want to gip and custard is just vile snotty slime.
  22. That Frontier sounds interesting, thanks for the heads up.
  23. -3 to -4. First proper frost and by chance took a detour on the way to work across the Wolds. Absolutely beautiful single track road thick with frost with the sun rising brightly. Would have been a photo moment was I not f***ing late! LOL
