  1. What a cracking session , love shooting squirrels but had zero last year.
  2. I also think that in the future the police will not grant deer on your FAC without DMQ qualifications, just my thoughts in this modern day and age where you need a ticket for everything.
  3. You dont need them to shoot deer . I have my DMQ 1&2 but it basically depends on what you intend doing in the future regarding deer stalking. If you are just shooting the odd deer on your own permission it would be purely your personal choice , for beginners DMQ is very informative. Education is always a good thing but nothing replaces experience. If you wish to join a syndicate you will most certainly need qualifications.
  4. Well done on the fox. I have never rang 101 before up until I was going out during lockdown for fox control and luckily have always been treat politely . You should complain about that call handler as it is not their job to give out their opinion, puts you off ringing them again. I once had armed response called out on me when I was pigeon shooting, it was when raoul moat was on the run in the North East . There was a helicopter and 4 cars , it was a bit worrying having to leave my hide with 2 officers with rifles pointed at me ?
  5. You sure that's a squirrel I thought it was a rabbit ?
  6. Hate them horseflies, usually bite me and they can grow big and very hot.
  7. Yep I always check off what I need when going out with the same routine .... Rifle , ammo ,knife , caller , bins , sticks , phone lamp depending on day or night shooting ?
  8. Never ever happened to me in over 30 years as never remove bolts or mags from rifles , I don't understand why people do this ? Leave them in rifle and it cant happen , my simple risk assessment. Only last week when stalking with my mate he forgot his bolt and had to phone the wife to bring it , told him to never remove it and this wont happen , think he got the point.
  9. Back out myself last night , took this buck 165 yds.
  10. I got a call to look for a chicken killer so ventured out around 7pm. First off spotted a doe and got to around 40 yds off her . I then checked out a large badger sette to see if any Cubs in there but no sign , but did watch a brock cub bumbling about for a while. Then continued to a nice banking to lay out til dark. Watched a doe with a newborn kid which was great to see. Then placed out caller , cub distress call eventually pulled in this vixen.
  11. I know where you are coming from but I would hope most shooters know the difference between crows , rooks and jackdaws. I think what happens is people use the terminology of crows because they all belong to the corvid family. They don't literally mean crows .
  12. As said above .243 , one rifle does all ....i. e. Fox and deer.
  13. You're right it's not Cumbria, its Durham ?
  14. Derwent reservoir this afternoon having a shake ...
  15. Wish I had some , none on my grounds.
  16. On a lighter note I am having a stake out , just got here few minutes too late , fox was in field and couldn't get a shot so will now stay til dark and see if anything shows.
  17. Epic write up that was , felt like I was there.
  18. I am sure there will be but haven't noticed any as such. Was watching barn owl , oystercatcher, lapwing, curlew , snipe and roe but no fox.
  19. Cracking second pic. More fox shooting, lucky you , must try knock some doors this year once things are settled.
  20. Got really close to a clapped rabbit .....
