    I took a couple of older lads out on my estate hoping that I'd click with them & I'd be able to learn from them. Turns out they were clueless muppets that didn't know their arse from their elbows.

    Problem with that being an amateur who is planning on learning by himself, as I did, he can't have any idea on size/depth/hazards of earths unless he puts a dog in. Luckily I had some really shit terriers to start with & one border in particular helped me learn all about the earths on the estate I had permission on. A 20 minute fox only wonder dog that bolted loads of foxes for the lurchers preban in places that went 'off the box'. As said previously, not many will show a newcomer the ropes for the reasons mentioned. Join a terrier club, in the hope you can get in with some other lads but

    Never done 3 shift pattern & hope I never do. I done constant nights for 3.5yrs & loved it til I had a bit bother with a c**t of a foreman then had to go on 2wks days/2wks nights. Never used to struggle on nights but do a little bit now. They reckon its better to stick to a set shift than alternating anything else. I'm now doing 1wk days/2wks nights which is better for me as less dayshift which I hate, rather do permanent nights as I sleep better. Theres lads do the 3 shift pattern at work & they all hate it

    I'd never kennel a bigger dog with a smaller one, I prefer kennelling dogs separately anyway. Theres only gonna be one outcome if a bullx turns on a terrier whether it starts it or is defending itself. My terrier is happy in with the spaniel but I still prefer to keep them separate

    Corkyjohn,maybe reason you dont see marked up borders on here is the people that have them have more cop than to put up pics of marked up terriers.Why lads feel the need to do so is beyond me,if your dog is working well and does the buisness there,s no need to let the whole world know,just more ammo for the anti,s. Or maybe the majority don't actually see regular earth work eh? I know what you're getting at fatman but theres a difference between marked up & smashed.     Jossa yours is the first I've seen on here that shows the marks of its trade. I've heard lads saying the borders are either too hard or useless, that its difficult to get a sensible dog. If a terrier works close it'll take stick, if its worked regular then all the more so. Its been said that the borders muzzle hair masks the marks but a mate had a rough dog seeing regular work & the hair didnt grow because of it. Nice to see/ hear borders are still working though
