  1. I love the look of some rough coated lurchers, especially some of the deerhound cross types and the Bedlingotn cross types, but, most of the best working dogs Ive owned were smooth coated
  2. First cross collie greyhound for me too, only had it on trial for a week, took it back....

  6. Aye whin I think we were going up a bit before yourselves..and you seem to know the area..early 1969 my first excursion there, when we were longnetting around Abbey St Bathams, Longramacus, Gifford, Reston, Preston, Cranshaws etc, etc etc...with some of the best longnetters this country has produced, princes of darkness...the Lammermuirs stretch well over to the west and around Carfaemill we poached, then ended up with the best farm Ive ever known for rabbits, got the farm in August and between then and the end of the year had over 3000 rabbits (dogs, longnets at night and ferreting) yes it wa
  7. Great to see matie..Ive worked 4 different pairs of mother and daughters, and its been some of the most memorable times Ive had with dogs, the bond way there to be seen, and we had some great hauls for rabbits on the lamp and excellent days on rabbita and hares in daylight..Ive also worked grandmother and grand daughter and this also went really well, nothing like keeping it a family affair..mmmmm an article maybe
  8. I'll be buying new, so its really just a toss up between the 2, the D4 is expected Feb/March here, i am very tempted, although will prove to be an expensive upgrade with the batteries and memory cards. Video doesn't faze me as i wouldn't use it, but that said if you have it then who knows. The FPS and immense ISO range are the bits that get me excited, as you well know, hounds going in and out of cover, dogs on the move in shadowy winter sun, and general shit, grey english weather . . . . the ISO performance is very important for what i shoot. I don't think the D3X will drop massively to be
  9. Good images, hey Dan do you know any of these guys..
  10. Been to court once in my life for poaching, at Haddington Sheriffs court..We went up on the Lammamuirsthe night before lamping, got 93 rabbits with three dogs, went to the court the next morning, got there early, dogs in the car and we both fell asleep, a guy with a black robe woke us up, banging on the window, "are you Mr Doherty" (what Scottish service ehh) ..We had to be in the court in 5 mins. Now if anyone has been to a Sheriffs court, everyone up on the day goes into together, what an experience..We got fined £150 each, my mate had to pay his off at £2 a week as he was unemployed, I had

  17. One of the best male lurchers Ive ever seen was lamping a rabbit one night, the rabbit went through and Paddy jumped the fence after it, on the strike the dog hit an over turned sheep feeder, Paddy had the rabbit, carried it back and jumped the fence on his way..as he jumped I saw his back leg at right angles to the dog, he landed and dropped the rabbit at our feet..I can still remember my mates voice, "Dok, I think hes broke his leg" I check it and the leg was f****d,, we opened the jeep tail gate to carry him to it, he ran and jumped in and lay down, I strapped both back legs together. On
  18. I always thought it made them better, more graft, more kills more experience..
  19. Not many first crossers of any type will truely come from working stock if your taliking about both parents being workers..people grab a collie, bull, or whatever, stick it over a greyhound and thats it..if your taliking lurcher x lurcher, now thats different..Handcocks collie first crossers are no better and no worse than anybody elses,
