    I am of the very firm belief that a ferret is only as good as the work it sees - i.e, the more you work them the better they get. Some are definately better than others and I would only breed off the best for this reason. At the end of the day if a ferret only gets to work a few days a year it will always be shit. FTB

    I would say the opposite. In an area near here you would never see any of the above in recent years, but this year there have been lapwings and curlews on the ground. I can't explain why, as farming practices haven't changed - maybe I just didn't notice them before!. Plus I have been there for 4 years and vermin gets shot on sight - with wings or without - purely to protect the hares. FTB

    No mate, I meant to post on here when it buggered off! I put it out onto it's perch the day before yesterday and it had it's breakfast and flew the nest! The roost is only 330 yards away as the crow flies, (sorry! ) and there had been a few crows watching from the rooftops as I was feeding it. Later that day I saw one sat next to it in the apple tree, and that was it. It's OK, this is a hunting site, you can tell us the truth - you got fed up and chapped it diddn't you? FTB

    Thanks for that guys,, Sorry i did not put down a budget its about £1000 max. Just sold all of my shotguns apart from one which i will keep for pigeons etc, So will start shopping about.     When I was about 16 year old, I had a vet bill of 2 grand for my springer bitch... She was my first dog and I havent regretted doing it once. I had to work like feck to get the money together, you may as well have called me Clint, but it was worth it. Now, on the other hand, if I had a dog where the treatment would outweigh the cost of buying and rearing a pup to that standard I dont know if I would do it. If the dog gets an injury out working, I think it's your duty to get it sorted. If spending a little money will get it working again then it's worth it. A lot of the things vets do

    I have a litter of cubs in an old stone built hunt artificial at the minute. The artificial had dissapeared as through time it had filled in and had been dug that many times it's caved in in places. This year, however the foxes re opened it and it is a topper. Runs for nearly 50 metres on a hill top with two chambers. Built completely from local stone slabs, buried deep enough the cattle dont trample it in.
