  1. I'd not go down the sitting bipod route, as they'll get quite heavy, much more metal to be lugging aroundI'd recommend making a set of sitting sticks from the plastic coated garden canes you get at the garden centre, tie them together with some silicone tubing or bike inner tube and protect the plastic with some garden hose slit open and taped on and hey presto, something that works just as well as a sitting bipod at a fraction of the cost. if you still want to buy a bipod, then Harris and Shooters Ridge make them, they seem pretty good, harris obviously being the one that gets copied all the
  2. I'd stear clear of buying from midway UK directly, I looked at getting a recoil pad from them once, when you see the shipping charges you'll understand why! best to find what it is you want and ask your gunshop if they can get it in for you, I think the screw on type is better because as it's only gonna be in the chamber, you're going to want to be able to rotate it and scrub the chamber instead of pulling it right through, I'd bet that it'd alsoi get stuck in the barrel if you tried to pull it all the way up the spout!
  3. a moderator does nothing to the velocity of the round, it will only change the harmonics of the barrel, so changing the POI, my HMR does the same thing, when I take the mod off, the POI jumps up and to the left about an inch, others will shift the POI somewhere else. I also have a SAK, with an 18" barrel on my annie, the flame cutting is pretty normal I'd say, I'd be surprised if the mod was affecting accuracy, unless the wear was uneven creating pressure in one half of the mod and causing the shots to veer off course, I have put about 500/525 rounds through my annie and the SAK mod I have on
  4. I'm pretty sure you can, perhaps not exactly that soert of thing, but there's a company that advaerises in the back of magazines (I can't find their ad ATM) that does glass fronted and antique style gun cabinets.... if I see the ad I'll try and remember to post a follow up post...
  5. huh? I have a HMR, and more or less all the bunnies I shoot are edible, if you head shoot them it's lights out and instant death, there's no damage to the rest of the meat, granted, boby shoot them and you can scoop the insides out like you were carving a pumkin, but headshot rabbits are clean.
  6. mmm I don't know, I'd think not as all the the whistles shaped like that on that market are quite thin and wide, I don't think that at .410 brass wouls have the right shaped chamber or enough volume to create the oscillations and the whistle... no harm in trying though!
  7. gawd, is this thread still alive? I thought it died a death a while ago....
  8. there's loads, I have Lyalvale Max Game ATM, Gamebore do a Mammoth Hi Bird 3" 50gm BB, Hull Cartridge do their Solway Magnum 3" 50gm BB take your pick! expect to pay about £16 or so per box (25 cartridges) the Gamebores come packed in 10s and I think they were £6 or £7 a box or so I can't see a use for anything over AAA personally as even the AAA, the maximum shot charge I have found is 36gm, 50gm although it kicks, does have a helluva lot of pellets!
  9. again another vote for going back to paper. live quarry is not the place for paracticing or setting your dope. I have my HMR zeroed at 100m, I can shoot everything from there down to 25m with a bit of hold under, exact ammounts aren't crucial considering thee effectiveness and explosive nature if the frangible varmint bullet it shoots, place those shots carefully, be responsible and you'll have a bag load of tasty bunnies!
  10. did you use a plasma cutter on those? I guess that is hardened steel? else I can see it getting beaten up pretty bad I think they tend to curve after a lot of use and you have to turn them round... I'm not sure on that, just sth I heard someplace. but if it's 20mm plate that'll weigh a ton!, but nice work!
  11. huh? sure I have 50gm BBs in 50gm with a star crimp closure, do you mean by "roll top crimp" a RTO? with a plastic disk secured by a rolled over portion of the lip of the case? larger shot sizes seem to come in these RTO closures
  12. I'm guessing they/you meant vermin. They might be classed as Vermin (but their status as Deer takes priority) but they are definitely not rodents. Hi Colster No, he really did mean rodent. Something to do with teeth which meant they were more like rats than deer. It just shows how misinformation gets spread around. There are reports of escaped Capybara, and that is a rodent, being seen in the wild and they are a similar size to muntjac, although a different species. I wonder how our firearms legislation would deal with shooting a capybara? (smile). Les true, there were capy
  13. Honestly wouldn't surprice me! just look at tools from draper, I bet you can buy exactly the same thing branded something different! It's like Weatherby and Howa rifles as well.....
  14. not sure, best to post this in the night vision thread..... I'm sure that if you contact pulsar direct they can tell you....
  15. the 455 is supposed to be replacing the 452, the 455 has interchangeable barrels like the Sako Quad, so the reciever will be a little heavier (as it is longer) but not by much, unless you want to go changing barrels then I'd suggest you go with the 452, it'll probably be cheaper plus if you're not happy with the stock they're cheap enough that you can always just get a new stock and trigger upgrade, and make it a shooting machine!, again the varmint barrel isn't really nessecary with sporting .22s, perhaps in the benchrest unlimited class it might, but not over 80m nobbling rabbits. Like I say
  16. uh oh, the seed of anglo-american relations breakdown was planted on THL......

  18. I found it easier to press the cartridge bottoms together with a vice, once th flange is formed, just place on on to of the other and wind the vice shut, this presses on into the other, much easier, though I found tat the whistle is quite wheasy and low volume, I think it'd benefit if the holes were smaller....
  19. well that was uncalled for..... mm then again, the rest of the members on the forum seem to be doing a bit of yank bashing so I gues you have to hold up your end as well...
  20. you'd be surprised.....only takes for someone with half a knowlege of firearms and wild animals to know, a trafic stop by a copper who's into shooting, you never know, unless you like the idea of a criminal conviction and the loss of your firearms..... on secod thoughts you are discussing foxes here and not munties? but I guess the same thing goes for charlie, if you're not allowed to shoot foxes with the rifle you have on the certificate, you don't do it! end of!
  21. nice! a proper quality stock at a much more acceptable price, I did look at the Gary cane stocks but didn't get a reply plus I bet they cost the earth!
  22. did he use real ebony for the grip cap apnd forend of is is plasctic? ta
  23. I'll tell you why, in america there's a lot of public hunting land and the seasons are very shory, now I'm not condoning theis but some people may be tempted into taking an unsafe shot, so the orange makes other hunters more visible, again if hunting on plaine, biiig wide open spaces so the bullet could go on for a long way if you miss, again the florescent orange hwlps you be sure of a safe shot and backstop. and since deer are colour blind anyway I think it's better to be safe than sorry, when we do a deer drive, walking guns and "beaters" wear Hi vis, again for that reason, as camo is so
  24. I don't think you'd want to spend the money getting a gun fitted for a first gun, most modern guns are stocked to fit joe average, guns vary between manufacturers, so there's a good chance you're going to find something that fits fairly easily off the shelf
  25. same here, all our internal walls are plasterboard, with 2x4's and noggins bewteen then with rockwool in the gaps, our cabinet is screwed to these upright 2x4s and the ol plod is fine with that....(plus the darn thing weighs nearly 90 kilos so not exactly something you could run off with! using Grabber scres (link HERE)screwed to the wall it's as solid as a rock!
