respect for last nights fox
danebrewer10 replied to murphymax's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
come on, lets leave it there, there's no need to take the piss. yeah we have different opinions, these pics are fine, it's one thing to take things in context, but there's no need to be silly about it. -

yaargh, hornets nests and sticks spring to mind here. this was a thread designed to make prople think. also about how you go about shooting an animal and how you deal with it after the shot, not one designed to stir anything up. as local and others have said it's personal opinion. personally I don't feel the need for posting pics of blasted foxes, others do, that's fine, I was never offended at, nor do I feel the need to go and run to the bog afer seeing a shot fox photo, I'm not sugesting that people should stop using rifles for fox control or any of that. if anything, suggesting that the p -

I'm not sure what to make of this, I feel slightly offended at you poo pooing my experience, sure I may not have held a FAC as long as others, but does that devalue my knowlege and experience? also I am not sure what you mean by "it not cutting any ice", I merely included this information to "reassure" members who may not have seen me on the forum, that I was not anti shooting, and not a device to provoke. I find your post rather condecending. the thread is not aimed purely at fox shooters look through Sporting Rifle magazine, and many of the big game photos in there will be not what I would -
am I missing something here?

as per the title, has anyone seen or heard of Environ-metal's Hevi Steel or Hevi Metal in this country? hevi steel may not be made anymore as I can't find much on it but at $25 a box for 25 of Hevi metal, vs the same price for 10 of hevi shot.... sound good? I guess it's much like Gamebores TMX loads soft tungsten (and other things) powder pellets. DB

no Idea.... I'd not get too close to it IMHO, there are plenty of other good second hand guns on the market.

pest control would be a viable excuse, or if you were shooting PSG, but I have to ask do you need it? I have not really had many if any instances in my 3 years shotgunning that you'd need more than 3 shots at the most, as the other birds have already buggered off out of range! bear in mind though, if you do decide to take the gun wildfowling, then you'll be breaking the law as you may only shoot waterfowl with a shotgun, not having a magazine able to hold more than 2 cartridges. plus if it is a factory 2+1 gun, you may not be able to just take the plug out, as the magazine tube may be crimped

Respect for our quarry
danebrewer10 replied to danebrewer10's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
this is not a "photo debate" as you put it, so much as the general respect for all our quarry, be it vermin species or no. I think the comparison with Asda is ridiculous. fox shooting? on the Adsa website? I don't think so. I'm not saying the pictures are wrong from a sporting standpoint and aclean kill, I'm saying they are wrong in being disrespectful in touting them about like a gory tropy, haah look how many foxes I've shot, I have no problem with the shooting aspect, it's just how those pictures are taken. and as for the TV moaning. no. I really think that THL is one of the last bastions -

disgusting.... not only is that £250, but it's also 500 meals for a family of 4! we eat one rabbit per meal, and very good it is too!, give me wild game over supermarker meat any day! -
phew that was quick!, are the chokes not marked on the side as well? mine have shallow laser engraving with the constriction, ie imp cyl, mod, full etc. If you are going after foxes specifically the 1/2 and 3/4 would be my choice, for general shooting then 1/4 and 1/2 is good, though you'll need to let them get in close for that first 1/4 barrel as the big shot leaves fairly large holes in the pattern at 30m as it spreads out. honestly, a shotgun is not an ideal primary fox control tool, purely for opportunistic foxes of driven foxes, or out of crops being harvested, I have killed a couple wit

hi ya folks just a question
danebrewer10 replied to venomviper's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
the shot size shouldn't make any difference, as you say. don't go any smaller then BB, and take a 36gm minimum, and a tighter choke, 1/2 or 3/4. restrict your range with the lighter loads, and check your chamber length, as lola & tom says, if you go and stick a 3" cartridge in a 2 3/4 " chambered gun, you could be in for some interesting times..... bye bye face and fingers. IMHO 36gm is too light, go as heavy as you can stick in your gun, I have some 50gm 3" BBs from Gamebore and they are the mutts nuts, they kick sure, but then you're not shooting that many, I have shot two foxes with t -

Thanks for the positive feedback, I must honestly say I was expecting an extreme backlash from the foxing chaps.... who knows this may be the calm before the storm no I don't think so, I don't feel gulity at all, it's just a continuation of good ethins before and during the hunt and the shot. I think photos are really, in the case of paid hunts, for sealing memories, where the trophy photo in conjunction with others can help bring back memories of past hunts, and it better enables you to share your hunts with others. as for the boasting aspect, who isn't pleased at a -
I can't remember which size is which, theres 1 140. 170 and 240mm reflector I think, as I think the lance is the biggest size? I don't think it'd really fit on a smaller mount.....

as bob says! I have not had anything to do with them, but from reading around they are popular, especially as donor rofles for custom builds, so long as the bore is still fine then I'd go for it!

Respect for the quarry we hunt. Do you show it? First off I don’t want this post to turn into one of those “if you don’t like it don’t look†kind of arguments, and I know I have commented on other threads and gotten a similar response, but please read the whole thing and then comment. I feel that respect for quarry no matter what it is, is very important. Whether it is one of the so called â€vermin†species, or one of the esteemed game birds or deer species. Respect for the quarry comes not only from choosing the right tool for the job, bullet, cartridge, shot size and type of

Chokes for rough/game shooting
danebrewer10 replied to fergie's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
it all depends on what type of shooting you want to do, if it's chiefly decoying, thenm more open chokes will be fine as the birds will be closer, if it's general rough shooting then something middle of the road, if it pass shootng, then tighter, I stick with 1/4 and 1/2 for pretty much everything, unless I'm shooting ABT then I'll want to increase my choke to get a denser pattern for those edge on targets. 1/4 will kill or at least knock birds down to quite a distance, say 20/25m or so, 1/3 will let you push ot to 30/35m, which IMO is at the thick end of what is practical in terms of most -
I think the only reason the HM2 "burns cleaner" as you put it, is that it uses less powder to push the bullet, less stuff burning, means less smoke and soot in the barrel, so less fouling, I'd prefer the HMR as it is I think a tad faster and flatter and so carriesd a bit more oomph, which gives me more confidence when dealing with opportunistic foxes, I look at an HM2 round and it looks like it belongs in a cap gun, I know it dosen't, but that's what it looks like to me, I have greater confidence in the HMR. as for the rifle choice, toughie, I looked at the sako when I bought bu HMR, but s

They are? Are you sure? Oh, and that website now only sell to the trade, so not a great deal of use unless you can find someone who stocks their stuff! you could always try and see if your local gunshop could get one in for you? might cost a bit more as they might want some comission, other than that I can't help I'm afraid!
