  1. first, considering the wording on your cert it looks OK Humane? totally. provided you can place the shot accurately every time, a fox will die with a hole through his head and a scrambeled brain, mo matter what the diameter. shot placement? I have shot 3 foxes with my HMR, one in the head at about 40m, right between the eyes, went down just like that, eyes bulging a tad, brain most definitely scrambeled, the second, at about 40m, broadside on ( a small fox of that years litter) and right behind the shoulder, dropped like the proverbial stone, and the third, again right behind the sh
  2. oh mummy! that's beautiful! I'll have to ask him if he can do Rimfires!... looking for a ctock for my annie 1517 .17 HMR
  3. aah thatnks for that, I'll give it a go, I've made match boxes before so I'm an old hand at getting the brass off!
  4. I'd second the second hand route as cheap optics really is a false investment, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is, Leupold do do some cheaper glass, look at their VX1 and VX2 ranges, I'd just go for a fixed six ir 8x, the fixed 6 has served me very we;; on my HMR, possibly a tad underpowered, but I have looked at foxes out in the distance and if on the right rifle, I;d feel confident taking charlie out to 200/250m wit one..... 5. disagree, I have to keep filling my annie mag up during the night (that is when I'm shooting and not just for the sake of it! )as it only holds 4 rds and I'm too tight to buy another, (i'd still have to fill them up anyways) just get yourself a Petzl Tikka with the red filter, really not that visible to other animals, plus it preserves your night vision, and gives you hands free light when you need to be opening gates 'n' such
  6. not that I know much about it, but s=considering the specs that RIc states, looks pretty yummy for foxing, but I shouldn't imagine you can get ammo very easily? factory rifles chambered for it seem about as rare as rocking horse sh*t! would that reflect the ammo availability?
  7. AFAIK, polecats are not offered the same protection as Bagders, although both are afforded by section 9 of the Wildlife and COuntryside act (WCA) 1981, being listed under schedule 5, Badgers are also further protected under the Badger act 1992. Chaffinches are also protected by the WCA, but I am not aware that they can not be kept as pets (captive bred would be my guess) I think lisencing only comes in once you have a potentially dangerous animmal, such as a boar, wolf or raptor or owl, then you have to be lisenced to keep the animal in question. (BSc Wildlife Management Student) as fo
  8. I have to ask the same question....I suspect someone lost it at some stage, I bet they'd be none too happy to find out that it had been shot!
  9. My guess is that you never removed the choke when you cleaned it. cleaning the bore, as you have found out does not clean the threads on the choke, the same thing ocurs when folks don't realise that their mod will rust solid on the end of their rifle if they don't take it off and clean the threads each time they use the rifle, the powder residue is highly hygroscopic, that is to say it attracts moisture, so the longer you leave it in, the less likley it is you'll be able to get it out. but 1/4 would be a great all round choice, I'm sure Briley probably have something that would fit, otherw
  10. same here, not really an appreciable difference in terms of noise reduction, but a lot more expensive, I think benefits to more expensive mods only come in when you consider CF mods, for the RF? the SAK is a good as any.
  11. Sorry RicW, I'm really not sure what to make sure of your posts , if you could just clarify, I'm not sure whether you're playing devils' advocate or quite what.
  12. well they're listed on the Browning US site (LH T-bolts) but not on the international site,so I guess the make them but just aren't importing them US site: http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/firearms/detail.asp?value=021B&cat_id=025&type_id=186&content=t-bolt-composite-sporter-left-hand-firearms International site: http://www.browningint.com/products/firearm.php?productsarea=browning&sommaire=Rifles&classe=22%20LR&famille=T-BOLT+SPORTER+COMPOSITE+THREADED
  13. hmmmmm wild birds? I think not. maybe not from his land, but wandering birds from elsewhere.
  14. oh right! I tought Browning made left handed T-bolts as well...
  15. I get where ou're coming from, but unless you're climbing up through heavy brush or presenting the rifle through a window at an acute angle, I have gotten close to opening the bolt on my annnie a few times too as it's not locked down by the safety, so not a problem exclusivley of SP rifles, I like the look of the T-bolt I'd definitely consider one in .22 if I ever needed one...
  16. correct, in a 3" chambered gun you can put anything in it up to 3" long (depending on the proofing level) so absoloutely no 3 1/2 magnums . I think there's only one 2" cartridge on the market made by Gamebore....
  17. Here's a link to a couple of vids I did on this subject a while ago Part 1 Part 2 and choke selection
  18. how about Cooper arms - they make some absolutely stunning rifles or Kimber, allong the same lines as the cooper......
  19. I think moderators are illegal in some states, and are highly regulated, they do have serialised parts which is like the serial no on the reciever of a rifle, as I say, they can be easier to get hold of in some states, but largely they are like that rare metal unobtanium, for the regular guy on the street, they are as far as I'm aware illegal for use in hunting, for range and target use only..... others may be able to better advise.
  20. true, a longer sight radius makes the rifle easier to shoot, is it because that, being at the end of a long tube instead of being a few inches apart on a handgun slide, that the smallest errors are much easier to spot and so correct on? I have shot with iron sights compartitvely few times, and those have been 25m smallbore with the target peep and front "aperture"type sight, I don't know if that's the proper mane for it, anyway I digress I take it back then! looks like Ireland is a great place to shoot! just a little more challenging to get a hoothold perhaps...
  21. the problem with that is the Beretta don't make pumps so you're restricted to mossberg, Ithaca if they still make them, remington, winchester which are made in turkey or remington, I think parts would be pretty easy to come by, as I think there's a pretty good dealer base headed up by Edgar brothers, if I had to choose, beretta would be mine, but if I wanted a pump, remington would be my go to gun for a traditional look, otherwise benelli would come in there for sheer weather resistance
  22. darn, I was gonna say Boyds as well.... oh well Ireland sure is a great place, but obviously not for shooting... alas....
  23. I'd suggest that a V-MAX isn't really the right bullet to be using on animals you want to eat, I'd have thought something like the nosler ballistic tip (hunting)or the 100gn partition would be better suited or really any other soft nose bullet, like something from Hornady , perhaps their plastic tipped SST would be good also, basically something with a thicher jacket for more controlled expansion and less obliteration of the meat, for foxing though they'd be the business I'd have thought.
  24. huh? that's a load of crap, legal barrel length is 12" with an overall length of 24" Anschutz sell 14" barreled rifles here in the UK still, that rifle's gonna be the bees knees for bunny bashing.... especially from a truck methinks..
