  1. also another pointer to the US is the fact that we don't have Bugling elk! there are certain legal requirements that vary from state to state the you have to have a certain area of high vis orange in you clothing, as the seasons are short for the different gun/bow muzzle loader seasons and the hunting areas have often got a number of hunters in them it's common sense and safety, if the deer/elk can't see colour then what difference does it make!
  2. Oh dear, I reckon he needs some new underpants after that episode! Absolutely, I was gonna say about the barrels as well, but it looks like a remington or weatherby/howa action to me though.... BOOM *pffrrp* *squelch* I've seen quite a few pics like that on the net mostly from tikkas from recollection, though someone did take his new 7mm rem mag (can't see the point of it myself - but that's for another day) with some handloads he'd made up, only he'd reloaded them with a fast burning powder not the slow burn magnum type powder I think the only salvageable thing was the trig
  3. Nice ruger! i'm not part of the 10/22 fan base i'm afraid I'll stick to my anschutz... , but I still like them, buuuut surely if you went out to check your zero after cleaning it, then you shouldn't have taken the shot at the crow.... no? hell, probably *singing* in the heeeaaat of the moment.....
  4. I think these are really designed for small things like rats, ground squirrels and gophers, neither of which we have here, so their use I think is limited to small rodents like rats and mice, it people who use them for rabbits that cause the problem as it hasn't quite got the oomph to deal with them effectively. I'm afraid that I won't be signing the petition, perhaps people should lobby for licensing legislation and restrictions on their use? as with all things, they can be effective when used on the correct circumstances and using it on suitable pests is it just a few people using it inapp
  5. Ok I got a question for y'all this really applies to the european scope names like S&B Swarovski and Zeiss, Apart from scope tube size, which makes the price different, is there really any appreciable difference between their lower and higher priced copes? like Zeiss have the Classic and Victory lines, S&B have their Zenith and Classic lines (German & Hungarian) and Swarovski have their Z lines and their Habicht scopes the glass is probably slightly different, but is it more a case of virtually same glass in different clothes? and whop a different price tag on there and you've
  6. I was gonna mention Apel as well, warne, err leupold, but as long as their good quality, i don't really think that steel has any real advantage over aluminium, perhaps peace of mind if you're not sold on aluminium and like all steel guns...
  7. Not sure, I read somewhere about an inch deviation over 100 yd? well, that's what I compensate for andit seems to work fine!
  8. sweet! cheers guys! also do you tend to gut them when you shoot them or later at the car? hmmm, seat belt or bag it is then... though I'm not willing to sacrifice in car safety for rabbit carrying ATM what about a rucksack, as with a big 14 Ah 12v battery them things don't half weigh a ton!
  9. OK here's the deal, I finally got round to making some sitting height shooting sticks for use w. my HMR. put the sticks up, rest the rifle in and rest the butt on your knee and it's as steady as a rock! lets you get above the grass and crops much better. anyhow, i just went out for a couple of hours and shot 10 bunnies, only 7 of eating size and I couldn't find one 'cause it was almost dark, (bet charlie had a good meal ) anyhow, how do all you guys carry shot rabbits? I just used a stick and hocked the bunnies and threaded them on that so that it balanced, but after carrying 2,3,4,5,6 rabbi
  10. yep, you'd definitely need proof of deer stalking as IMO, .308 will take moose so it's waaay overkill for a fox, so as I said, you'd need it on you ticket for deer first then fox second I would have though, so I think you'd only really be looking at anything in the 6mm-6.5mm range so .243, 6.5 grendel, 6.5x55 (this can be loaded with fox suitable bullets) .243 seems most likley as it's popular, and quite a lot of folk use it for foxes as well but the .308 will do less meat damage when you go to eventually shoot deer, but i'd be very surprised if your FEO lets ypu have a .308 expressly for sho
  11. what as in the pistol cartridge?? IIIII definitely wouldn't want to be him faced with an angry pig... err SS are you sure that when he says boar he dosen't mean feral pigs? as they're quite a bit smaller than o'l Sus scrofa in europe.... (Is your man from the US?) Quite positive on the Boar front .30-30 Winchester Seems quite reasonable to me if, as they say, is usable for Black bear. well, I wouldn't want to use it on boar though I understand that the .30-30 is one of the all time biggest deer cartridges over there in the US (i.e. having taken the greatest
  12. what about the .45/70? biiig 450 grain bullet trundling along at 1300 ft/s isn't even making deer legal energy in the UK but was killing buffalo just fine in the old west especially a big hard cast soft lead bullet will just punch through and keep on going Not the most practical hunting round in the world, But I do admire it, I'd love a ruger no 1 in .45-70
  13. yup as others have said, I's shoot a .308, a big 180 gn nosler partition ot bonded bear claw would dish the dirt err SS are you sure that when he says boar he dosen't mean feral pigs? as they're quite a bit smaller than o'l Sus scrofa in europe.... (Is your man from the US?)
  14. Clays, clays and more clays! also a great way to escape from the house on a sunday morning!
  15. hmmm fixed or variable, -fixed, really simple, nothing to really break, no fiddling with magnification etc PLUS you can buy really good fixed mag glass for the same price as some not so good variable glass, I have a 6x42 S&B on my Rimfire and it is SUPERB! but If you could really justify it, or lead yourself into an impulse buy of a top quality european variable scope then I'd definitely go variable, as you can carry it on say 3x and then if you see anything close you're ready to go and if there's something further away, you can just crank up the power, but i did hear that with the varia
  16. oh you leave them til next morning do ya? I thought that with rabbits you had to do them straight away....especially as it's getting warmer and warmer as the year goes on.... and they don't get tainted?
  17. I can remember my first shot with a .22lr.. Back in the good old 1977..open sights, at umm, must be an age thing . I can only remember getting 2 bulls, the instructer behind me, "good shooting, but your at 11 o`klock, try a little lower and you will be in the BULL". So I did. Missed by a mile. I looked behind, It was then I noticed, he was talking to the lad next to me... I dont know the things you remember, and dont forget.. Who cares anyway, memories are for yourself, to share or even to bragg about, who`s botherd? or are we all wanna be`s... As for the topic ...I just
  18. OI!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is a thread for discussing this custom/not rifle... NOT for bitching- take it elsewhere please!!! how a=old are y'all? 6? and coldweld, don't press for answers- if Mr L dosen't want to give answers or can't remember, then just accept it.
  19. noo that's not bad at all I'd say! over the 3:1 ratio! I would shoot considerably less than that!
  20. Hi all, I just thought I might share my "new"discovery on cleaning your rifle, I have one of those standard jags for my HMR and it seems alright, but I think I read somewhere to wrap your patch around a brush in a spiral and push it through the bore that way, WHAT a difference! I use the napier rifle clean, and a thin strip wrapped around the brush cleans right down between the lands and gets out the crud that the jag was missing! as the bristles just push the patch right into the grooves... Just thought I'd share that with y'all for clean shiny bores! (also the cleaning material goes farther
  21. ha ha bore guides, I spoke to my gunshop a while ago and he said that they sell hardly any, maybe 1 or 2 a year! but yep, I'd get separate gear for each caliber...
  22. aah cheers for that, sadly I can't find anything on CAM , I just get cams coming up on google for the regular gas operated AR type rifles.... Thanks anyway though!
  23. aah robert it is then, my bad, erm I'm pretty sure it's a turn-bolt action as if you take a peek at one of the fox shooting videoes on james marchington's youtube page he demonstrates it as a turn-bolt and you can see in the picture HERE looks like a neat rig though!!!
