  1. as much or a little as you like!!! Mine cost £715 or so for the rifle and £440 for the scope plus £20 for mounts.... CZ rifles are very good value, starting from around the £300 mark I think, and as far as scopes go, the sky is the limit! you can spend as little as £50-£100 for a scope that will do the job (though not with the clarity and light transmission of the high end scopes) up to in excess of £2000!!!! Have a look on the forum, there's a thread discussing HMR scopes Here Good luck!
  2. Humph...... I knew it was too good to be true!!!
  3. Aye, sure is! It's bloody loud though!! I was expecting it to be quiet! even with the mod on the report still rolls around the countryside!!
  4. Is it true that the blue tips on the .17 HMR hornady rounds are surplus .17HM2 bullets? cau'se I though the hornady ones had red tips?
  5. WHERE??????? I bought a box of 50 for I'm not sure how much but it was certainly more that that! so £5.25 for a box of 50? phew gotta find me some of those!!!
  6. tum tum te tum..... hmmm IIII'd go with the nikko.... as you've got better magnification... if you want the cheaper scope but still nothing to sniff at on the features side... go with the bushnell, as you don't really need to use kentucky elevation with the HMR, i'd go with the bushnell as the magnification range will suit just fine (duplex reticule), esp. if you get a bunny pop out 20 yd away.... pooosibly a bit tricky if you're stuck on 24x zoom Gotta say I haven't actuallly had any experience with either of these myself, but I looked through the 4-16x50 Nikko Nighteater at the gunshop a
  7. how much did you get the anchutz for and how much was the scope? just interested, cheers the anschutz was i think £715 and the scope £440 or so... i tried a s&b 6x42 on my hmr after taking it off my 223.......bloody thing was worse than useless on the hmr...didnt have a hope at 150 yard head shots......exellent scope on a 22lr were it is now well I never really realised how bloody far 100 yd actually is! especially for a small target life a rabbit, but I reckon the reticule covers about 3/4 - 1 inch at 100 yd but I wanted to get really decent glass as I hadn't spent
  8. RicW, just a tip regarding guns on motor bikes. I knew a chap who used to ride to clay shoots with his shotgun in it's slip. One day, the strap came away and the Beretta had a damaging run along the A52! After that, he always tied a rope sling on the outside of the case, to take the weight and strain off the stitching / riveting of the strap. bet he was "well" pissed off !!!
  9. lol I wonder what calibre has taken the most rabbits over the years... Wouldn't be a .22 would it ooh aye, new kid on the block though... jostling for position with the undisputed defending champion...
  10. no I didn't bother cause i looked at the factory shot target of i think 4 rounds at 50m and they're all in a small hole the size of a .243 case head, si i reckoned that they wouldn't have the time to run the barrel in and all that, so i didn't bother... i was a little worried about the group size but having looked at the factory target and cleaned the barrel i'm not that worried.... i'll try and shoot another group next week and post those pics up as a dirty/clean comparison... aaah the sofa... that's an old sofa we got re-done and with a suitable pattern for it's time period though
  11. Well, what do you guys think... This is condition number 8 on my FAC... "The .22 rifle and sound moderator and ammunition shall be used for shooting VERMIN and for zeroing on ranges, or land deemed suitable by the chief offiier of police for the area where the land is situated and over which the holder has lawful authority to shoot." Are foxes legally classed as vermin? The FAC condition gives me permission to shoot vermin, and I have written permission from the land owner. All pukka, or not?? Effortless. no, as someone else said they're separate, my new .17 HMR slo
  12. Riiiiight.... as promised I zeroed my set up today... but to excuse the groups I'll get some excuses ready it was a bit windy and my bi-pod wouldn't fit on the studs 'cause they were too short... so I had to rest on a bucket.... crap. took a bit of time to get on to the paper, y'know winding too far one way then the other (knowing nods all round ) also i was mystified to start with because the continental scopes go clockwise for higher instead of lower and clockwise for right instead of left.... below are the targets.... some of the groups were big, but some were pretty small.. so
  13. I shot one, didn't like it- it's a clay gun muzzle heavy and long barrels, not at all intuitive for snap shooting, i'd get yourself a second hand beretta or something like that, they are good well made guns, or look at the bettinsoli or lanber lines of guns, nothing special but they are well made and will do the job well!
  14. y'gotta also have "reasonable excuse" to have the firearm in the public place as well, like transporting it to or from shooting, though you can't just take it for a walk ;)
  15. you.. you are the danebrewer10 on youtube arnt you??? Yup! tis me... what vid was this?
  16. Hi all, can't wait to try it out tomorrow, couple of things though... borntoshoot... was this for me or someone else on here? ace32.... do I know you Part from that.... Updates tomorrow!
  17. I bought my shotgun from East Grinstead Guns around the corner from them, got them to fit a recoil pad and do a repair, the quality of workmanship was poor, luckily for me I'm at college in winchester and there's a gunsmith who actually makes guns.. a bit more expensive as they're on a premium site but they do a sterling job... (BE Chaplin) Andersons? as you say, the guys in there are very helpful, good selection of guns, scopes and all the gubbins.... as for the moderator... all I wanted it for was to take the crack off at the muzzle so that I could shoot it without ear defenders, and I r
  18. *sharp intake of breath* ooooh...!
  19. Have a look..... here... http://www.varmintal.com/17hmr.htm as for the acreage... if you lived in a steep sided valley, not much at all, if you lived in wide open spaces on flat farmland, then probably quite a bit more, it all depends on that the firearms officer thinks....
  20. WOOHOOO! Finally got my certificate back yesterday and went to the gun shop today (FA Andersons, E. Grinstead) to pick it up!! .17 HMR Anschutz with 18" brl, 6x42 S&B Hungarian... SAK mod & a sling to come yet... Here's a couple of pics- more info coming tomorrow- (hopefully) I'll be going to zero it tomorrow so more pics to follow..... Really, really nice trigger on it... no creep I can detect, got remington, federal & hornady 17gn to try... see which it likes best!
  21. Ok I lied, just picked my rifle up this morning from FA Andersons in E. Grinstead.... Anschutx .17 HMR with sporter stock and S&B 6x42 Hungarian on top.... chap in the shop reckoned it shouldn't be too much of a prob....? Mr. Logic... I see where you're coming from.... I'll post some pics on the forum and should be zeroing it tomorrow with any luck so I'll let ya know how I get on... Cheers!
  22. I've posted this on other threads in the past, but I'll be getting an S&B 8x56 Hungarian for my new Anschutz now that I've got my certificate back bunnies beware !!
  23. Hey Varminter.... How heavy is your rifle??? mmust weigh a ton!- getting on for around 9-10 lbs with scope and bi-pod? Cheers.... (nice shooting by the way..... )..... (so long as you don't wound any ) (long shots on game are a pet hate of mine...... esp. on big game...)
