Well as per the title really!, i gather blueprinting is the truing up of all surfaces, bolt guide rails, lapping the locking lugs, magazine feed lips or whatever to make the rifle more accurate on "stock" actions like the rem 700. well does it make a significant difference? i can see how it might but surely anything that is amiss and would be sorted by blueprinting would be picked up in QC at the factory? Cheers DB

I have opinions on what is and what is not acceptable to me, so here goes... *puts on flak vest and helmet* I have in the past commented on a thread of fox shooting pics where chaps have used a .243 and ballsitic tips, they make a godawful mess, but the do put the animal down almost instantly. i have an issue with the mess it makes, I would choose soft point bullets for most things, or if ballistic tips then ones of stronger build like hornadys tipped SST interlock, accubond, interbond, or nosler ballistic tip in the sizes intended for deer, not like the varmint bullets like the speer TNT o

Custom Vermin Calibres

ha ha nice comparison! since you put it that way I can see the attraction.... still not my cup of tea though... DB -
I carry my O/U and S/S closed over my left arm, (I am right handed) by holding the gun across my body barrels upwards at an angle with my hand just past the trigger guard holding the grip with the action and forens laying along my forearm towards my elbow, I shoot on my own and I find this a most comfortable way to hold it if my right arm gets tired, I always carry my gun shut purely because it is quicker to bring up and shoot without having to shut the gun first, also I generally also carry it with two hands because again you don't have to move your hands, just bring the gun up and shoot

Hi all, I have a problem here, has anyone else experienced split case shoulders and nexks on their spent .17 HMR cases? here are 4 pics of each "type of split, they are all federal premium, of which I n=have shot around 150 of or so and about 40 or so of remington accutip and hornady, the last two don't appear to have split, but I have fewer cases of those anyway, I was wondering whether the chamber of my rifle is too open or the cases too thin? anyways here are the pics-(you can see how many rounds I have shot(or at least collected) that is a jar in which you get glace cherries, so you know

Custom Vermin Calibres
danebrewer10 replied to Grousekeeper84's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
not to shit stir, but what is wrong with the calibres we already have? I just feel rightly or wrongly that we don't need any more calibres filling tiny performance niches when there are other more standard cartridges that do pretty much the same job, plus if you do choose a super fast round you'll have barrel erosion to contend with... I dunno, I think that the "normal" choices like .243/22-250/25-06/6.5x55 would be fine, plus there is loaded ammo for them... but I guess, and I would put myself into this category sometimes, it's nice to have something out of the ordinary, something of a talking -
Ah ha! something I have experience in!! I have one of those, I got mine from Deep Blue shooting, their price is a bit more than uttings, but when you take postage into consideration allong with the battery, they turned out cheapest, I carry a 14ah battery in a rucksack, if you can afford, or want to afford the lithium batteries, i would, i have heard nothing but praise from them purely for their light weight compared to the lead acid type... Cheers DB

personally, from what I have read, it seems a little daft, something ruger and hornady dreamt up to get some publicity and revenue, call me cynical but hey, it seems a bit light for foxes IMO, where there are better tools for the job like the .223, 22-250 and .243 etc as someone else has said, i may be great for blowing up things like gophers and prairie dogs, but i feel has limited practicality in this country, TBH, I really don't think we need any more calibres, filling tiny performance niches that we really wouldn't miss if they weren't there..... I think I may have stirred the hornets nest

Shooting deer with .17hmr
danebrewer10 replied to firepower's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
report him to the landowner, and then the police because that is obviously strictly illegal and would, I should imagine carry a pretty hafty fine allong with losing your firearm certificate... -
Boring out a barrel? re-chambering
danebrewer10 replied to danebrewer10's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
hmmm that's what I thought.... mega expensive and not really that practical.....alas.... -
Hi all, If there is a rifle say that you really like but isn't offered in the caliber you want... is it possible to order it in a small cal. and bore the barrel out and re chamber/rifle it for the new cartridge? or possibly to lengthen the chamber as in .260 remington to 6.5x55? Cheers DB

i'll assume you have an account with an image hosting site like flickr or photobucket, so what you need to do is click the picture of the tree in between the insert link and insert e-mail add functions and just type, or copy the url of the image into the box and click insert image, the url, with flickr is at the bottom of the page when you choose the size of the image you want someone else might be able to explain better than me...

oh I just see that beretta market one of their ultralight guns with a rifled bottom barrel for this purpose, I don't really know much about the effect that would have on the shot pattern.... and yes the .410 can be great in certain circumstances, much like an air rifle it's a brilliant tool id used within it's remit.... but perhaps a gun with multichokes migh also be a good idea owing to how dense some of the cover can be and how short the range sometimes?

Hi all, I'm just wonderin' I'd really like a Sako but they seem just a bit too pricey in this climate and the fact that the prices have been going up, and being cynical, i don't see them coming back down any time soon. So what is the rust resistance of blued metal like? I have had an air rifle and not an Anschuetz .17 hmr, and have been careful so as not to get them wet, and have had not problems, but when stalking on fixed days you could get caught out, plus you can't control the weather, so perhaps spending a little less on the blued model might be a false economy? I don't want to be t

dunno mate, personally i'd steer away fro it (personally) i don't think the .410 is much cop, i'd go for a second hand gun in 20 or 12 bore that'll be much more useful if you want to go after larger quarry, if the ranges are close, choose light cartridges and open chokes, or you could even buy a rifled choke to spread the pattern even faster, but I'd liik into brands like lanber, bettinsoli, lincoln, and possibly baikal, the latter being rough and ready but i hear they go on for ever....

well what do you expect from that pile of shite they call a newspaper?? I just refuse to even get angry at something that is so childish and doesn't even deserve to be hinted at as being an article...

well depending on which one you concentrate on, or if you move you head slightly so that the eye looking down the scope, isn't, then one eye takes over from the other, it's difficult to explain, but no, i can't concentrate on both images at the same time as they are too different from each other i do what you do, it seems there was a misunderstanding "Yes both eyes looking along the line of sight then one down the sight" ATB DB

I'm not sure about the T4 I believe that it was designed for the AR/M16 style platforms so will have a hole accepting a .223 bullet... it may not be big enough for a .243 but you can contact jackson rifles HERE as they supply the retailers, I'm sure they would ba happy to help... Cheers DB

Oh sorry Mr L, I thought you did, I just remember reading a post where you wrote a bit about it and I know you do a bit of reloading so I (incorrectly) put 2 and 2 together and came out with 5.... and will everybody stop baiting each other! Cheers DB -

what do you mean? I suggested a couple of other forum member one of whom I think uses the 6.5x55, i'm not sure if I should be mildly offended or not? but like I said in my other post, I don't have anything bigger than the .17 HMR so I can only recount what I believe to be sound advice from a reputable source....
