Sauer 202 or Blaser R93
danebrewer10 replied to danebrewer10's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Not quite sure what you intended to write here. However the Blaser bolt is a very simple bolt to strip for cleaning and as for the pull action, one gets used to it very quickly and would soon see the benefits of this type of action. I have had two Blasers for nearly 10 years - off road in 6.5 x 55 and a Luxus in 22.250 - or if needed they could be the other way around!! I have three other conventional bolt action rifles and never get confused between them and the Blasers I meant that if you ever wanted to strip the bolt head- ie the metal "petals" in a collar that lock up ins -
Sauer 202 or Blaser R93
danebrewer10 replied to danebrewer10's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Hmmm I gotta say I'm surprised at the poll results so far.... perhaps the Sauer owners are all asleep! (save for the dedicated souls above ) wellll the Blaser is a nice rifle, Great lines, but it's just the straight pull that I reckon would be hard to get used to.... plus if ya ever needed to than the locking mechanism, I reckon it would be a b*tch to do!- all those fiddly petal bits..... piiiiiing ....bugger..... better get on the phone to Blaser and order a new bolt head...... Oh just another thing.... Sauer owners... what have you found the accuracy of your rifles to be like? reading -
Just wonderin' guys (and gals!) , another completely hypothetical thang.... if you could/had to choose, which rifle would you go for... the Sauer 202 or the Blaser R93- both wearing synthetic stocks- Sauer - coated steel reciever & barrel - traditional turn bolt design - slower calibre change + loss of zero - drilled and tapped receiver- use whatever mounts you like! Blaser- lighter? - "unconventional" straight pull - non-coated steel parts - fast barrel change and no loss of zero (Using different scopes attached to th

Would you buy this shotgun?
danebrewer10 replied to danebrewer10's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
as in with a single trigger you don't have to move you finger as far as with a double trigger which would make it fractionally faster (not enough to worry about) and with the double tap thing, if you pull the trigger for the second time mid way through "recovering" from the recoil of the previous shot, your muzzles won't be pointing at the target, they'll be somewhere else. -

Ya man, double triggers are easy and just as quick as single triggers when you get used to them, I cant understand some of these clay shots who just shoot BA-BAM nearly a double tap surely the second shot would be wildly off target? I've just got a thing for side by sides and double triggers, what gun are you getting? a beretta? -

My gun only has 2 1/2 inch chambers not 2 3/4... well, at some stage, over and unders were taboo, synthetic on anything, was thought enough to have you put to death ;D but i reckon it may just be a matter of time 'till someone comes out with a synthetic s/s ...... does anyone know whether anyone actually makes double trigger s/s guns anymore save from Aya and expensive semi-custom jobs? -

danebrewer10 replied to danebrewer10's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
me too, but I just wouldn't want to take my old gun out and get it soaked or muddy/ especially as i can't get inside the lock work to let that dry out but my ol' gun's gotta be about 70 or years old... ruger made a synthetic o/u with stainless barrels a while ago but i think it's discontinued, and if i remember rightly, browning and fabarm make camo dipped o/u's.... -

cheers for the reply, well, I shot a friends browning cynergy the other week, and still had in my head the motions for a double gun, so i forgot to release the trigger all the way! so the second shot didn't fire! -
side locks look nicer and are more expensive as others have said, I think the hammer& spring mechanism are attached to the side plates whereas with a box lock, the lock work is attached to the top and bottom tang.... (am i right on this?)

The new Beretta SV10 Perennia
danebrewer10 replied to Peter Skellan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
looks nice! if i had to buy an o/u this is what i'd probably get, I can't get on with them personally, but i think the main attraction is the kick off stock... -
Hi all, Just thought I'd share my Idea for a new shotgun and my reasons for it.... This is born from experience... I regularly shoot clays with my side by side Cogswell & Harrison 12b (18th B'day gift! last year), but think that I'd like another shotgun for wet weather use, high volume pigeon/clay shooting or wildfowling. I have tried over and unders, pumps, and autos. out of those three the auto comes out top (benelli), but I just love the sighting plane of the s/s and the classic feel, I just don't shoot as well with the others as my old s/s. Here's My idea. Straight hand stock &

Are you crazy? .17 designed for coyotes? it's a small game round! same way as the .22lr will take a fox at a pinch, the .17 HMR will take a fox at a pinch, the bulllets aren't strong enough to hold together, possibly those soft point bullets, i wouldn't know, but the hornady v-max bullets that many are loaded with just fragment on impact, fine for gophers/crows/magpies etc, but not realy enough for a fox. I wouldn't want do push shooting a fox further than about 80m with the .17 even head shots. minimum for foxes and coyotes... .223 rem .22lr is great for bunnies especially in populated areas,

Oooh what a nice pair !!!
danebrewer10 replied to FOXHUNTER's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
The golf course borders a small village where there are a lot of allotments and they have been losing lots of chickens, ducks and geese so the golf course is the best place and the safest place to control them Prolly also doing the ol' number 2's on the green as well.... nasty  -
what do you do to you rifle when you clean it then? get rid of the powder fouling and then remove the copper? so that the patch stops coming out green? Ta

hey cheers guys, another question, what if you get caught in a rainstorm? do you then take the action out of the stock to oil the underside of the barrel etc and let the moisture evaporate? surely this wouldn't pose a problem if you had a free floated barrel?

hang about mate!!!! I don't think calling me scum on a forum is really the way to go? I don't have a problem with shooting foxes with a .243, it's gotta be one of the most practical and humane rounds to do it with, all i'm saying is it dosen't cast a good light that's all.....I'm not into "pleasing"the do good brigade either, they want to get rid of hunting and shooting altogether....why would I have a login on a hunting forum and post (pro) shooting/hunting related questions and answers if I was a soyabean munching anti? I think people on either side, if anyone says something even remotely s -

Hi there, I'm just wondering as to how often you should clean your rifle, I wonder because I clean by shotgun every time I use it, scrub the barrels and oil the reciever/forearm components etc but a stalker/woodland manager friend of mine has a Mauser 66 in 7x57 and only cleans it every 3 months or so and it still shoots 3/4 or 1/2 inch groups! I would have thought, scrub the powder fouling out each outing, then shoot a 3 shot group after every box of ammo and see when the groups open up, then you know that after however many rounds you need to clean the copper fouling from the bore.... what

ha ha well just be gtatefull you don't live in scotland! had a look on this website here http://rmacleod.co.uk/ammunition/.17.html to have a look at ammo prices 'cause i'm looking to get an anschutz in .17 hmr and they're selling Hornady £15.50 for a box of 50! waaa that's scary money, I'm in the southeast, faaaar away from scarily priced ammo i'll just have to go bargain hunting!

nice shooting mate, but what I really don't like to see is bloody quarry in photos, try and put the rifle in front of the fox, to try and cover the belly up, it just looks gross (y' know, guts hanging out, blood round the muzzle, generally looking blasted) I don't have a weak stomach or anything like that, I'll happily gut, skin and clean rabbits, pheasants and fish, but it gives us as shooters a bad reputation, more ammo for the antis, that's the only thing that repulses me in trophy shots, but good luck to you mate and congrats on the first fox! -
Straight pull AR/6.5 Grendel users?
danebrewer10 replied to danebrewer10's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I,ve looked into getting a 6.5 upper for my AR but it coming in at about £1000 at the moment. With the right bullet and some carefull reloading its can be made deerlegal. Cheers, SL SWEET! looks like that cost a bomb! is that a southern gun AR? -
My thoughts on semi auto shotguns
danebrewer10 replied to danebrewer10's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
yeah I had a look at the Remington, they just seem heavy and a bit out dated when there are better/more modern guns out there, no denying that they are well enginered, and there are some old guns still working out there, but they are (to my taste) over engineered, that said it's an opinion and i've never actually even held one much less shot one... so it's an opinion and not an observation....the Americans seem to like "made in the USA" stuff and seem not to like European stuff as much... the Benelli does reduce the recoil, possibly not reduce it by much (i shot a wood stocked supersport model -
Blimey! THAT'S a THICK barrel! and i thought the barrel on some other rifles was heavy! how much does that weigh? gotta be at least 10lb?
