Sorry, I don't understand your post, it dosen't make sense... What I mean is, that hunting with an air rifle is all about getting close enough to be a: within your ability to place a shot that will kill your quarry in a humane way. b: to be within the guns ability to do the same. If you cant get within that distance, don't bother buying an air rifle. If you are a professional pest controller and you need to get big numbers then there are other means to get them. Do you understand it now?? ATB Michael oh ok got it... The air rifle was the first "proper" rifle I go

Hi all, anyone here read sporting shooter magazine? well you know that rifle that jeff bucknell's got, the one made with an M16 bolt to give a tiny bolt lift? does anyone know any info on it as I don't think I have a sporting shooter account so I can't ask... If you've got any info on the gunsmith who made it or even if they're still being made, I'd greatly appreciate it! Cheers! DB10

Mr_Logic's Shotgun Thread
danebrewer10 replied to Mr_Logic's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
/\ l l l AAH hate this- I can never understand why people don't like them! as long as you carry it barrel upward, bolt open and a flag in it surely it is as safe as any other gun? anyways, I would have a look at a second hand or new benelli, with the right stock and 24 gm cartridges, they can shoot as softly as a beretta, but to be honest, berettas don't recoil AT ALL to me that is wheras with a benelli it's generally lighter and much easier to clean, fewer its to take apart and get lost... ( i do like a clean gun),errrm semi is they way to go for softness, though you migh -
.17 HMR V-MAX - Whats going on???????
danebrewer10 replied to hotel2zero's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
yep that's exactly what I read, asked the RFD and he didn't seem to know..., still if they work, they work! exactly the same bullet... -
whoooah! I thought this forum was for discussion, no? seems to me like a hot headed response without reading and taking in the info correctly...... never said they weren't up to the job, just that I feel that they are better suited to some roles than to others... just my 2 cents worth. everyone is entitled to their opinion are they not?

I'm not retiring the airgun in favour of the .17, just using it in fewer circumstances- (ie ideal ones only) yes, bigger gun does not equal better kill (perhaps better chance of a kill) ( , I am not allowed to shoot the .17 on my patch (Home) so the air gun as well as the FAC air gun is there to stay. I accept that at some stage I will (fatally/not) wound quarry, however all i want to do is lessen the chances of that happening... savvy? as for "lesser gun", not it's not lesser, suffice to say it is less suitable, not to say that it can't be used. i would perhaps liken it to hunting deer with

some interesting comment on here, quite different to the some of the condemning comments on the airgun forum HERE i'll still use the airgun for quarry, bu the conditions just have tobe perfect for me to guarantee a clean shot, otherwise i'll pass the shot up.... respect for quarry.

some interesting comments.... I reckon i'll still use it on the odd occasion for rabbits , it's just that the conditions would have to be perfect that's all.....

PLEASE READ ALL OF THE TOPIC FIRST BEFORE REPLYING (moderators- i know this dosen't really belong here but i wanted to get a broad range of people to see the topic so i posted it in two sub forums) right I know this is going to be a thorny topic, especially as it is posted in the airgun section, i'll probably post it in the rifles section as well to see what others think. here goes. I have a precharged air rifle which I got about 5 or 6 years ago, it shoots cloverleaf groups at 25m and i used to use it for shooting everything on the airguners hit list so to speak. I have not rea

I have a precharged air rifle which I got about 5 or 6 years ago, it shoots cloverleaf groups at 25m and i used to use it for shooting everything on the airguners hit list so to speak. I have not really used it for some time now for shooting rabbits , and have only really used it for shooting rats/feral pigeons/corvids at the bird table and in trees,

well as per the title.... has anyone experienced a Browning BLR at all? just looking at them this morning and they seem pretty nice rifles, i know a lot of people don't like the lever action, (I've got a sweet spot for them )but they shoot spitzer bullets, have rifle like accuracy and strength, very fast follow up-shots only thing that seems to let them down is the stock geometry, ie the bore being quite high above the comb, looks like it migh bite when you fire it., and having to clean it from the muzzle end (no boresnakes ).... as I said, has anyone had/got/shot one? (especially the '81 v

yup as others have said- head shoot them and you'll be fine, it you body shoot them you'll turn the insides into soup and make a rather large hole where you shot it- go for the head shots mate! you could try some of those FMJ rounds or the soft points that are available...

wierd rabbit pest/parasite??
danebrewer10 replied to danebrewer10's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
cysts it is then! looked just like it in the photo are they safe to eat if you get rid of the contents and wash/cook it thoroughly? I wouldn't want to be like this ------> -
HI all, I shot a rabbit just now and inside it , once having removed the intestines (Using the spin/fling method ) I noticed what appeared to be a bag, not something I had seen before on the opposite side of the body cavity to the lower of the two kidneys, it was slightly larger than a kidney, and when i cut it open it appeared to be filled with a clear limph or whatever but inside also were a load (i dunno, 'bout 30-40) of these small >1mm diameter bean shaped white objects, they appeared to be connected to the muscle behind the body cavity by some sort of membrane... the bag was not loo

I think the accuracy issue with the semis may be down to them shaving a little of the bullet off when they go into battery? I don't really know, also the bolt gun will be far easier and quicker to clean as the semis are of a blow back type and you get all sorts of powder residues inside the breech/receiver area and... well it's just messier.... with the bolt gun, just clean the bore, and wipe the bolt off and the receiver parts you can reach and it's done! and as for the other guys... this is a forum for discussion not bitching... agree to disagree

danebrewer10 replied to danebrewer10's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Hi all cheers for the replies! phew!!! BRYAN3- it's not just the effort to take it off, but here's a story I was told by a stalker friend of mine the other day, this was with a centerfire but the sentiment is the same. A guy was going to trade in his rifle for a new one and using the old moderator and scope he had. HOWEVER he had never taken the moderator off the rifle! the moderator (T8) was rusted on!! the gun smith after dismantling the mod had to actually cut the last 1/2 inch off the barrel to get the moderator off, and the barrel under the mod was all pitted, I now take the mod of -
Hi all, so shocked I thought I should post this, just phoned the gun shop to find out ammo prices and federal .17 HMR is £15 a box and hornady £13 a box with the prices going up all the time WAAAAAAAAA that'll hurt when it comes to buying a brick.... anyone else had it more expensive?

Hi all, mission of mercy to lay my mind to rest... or turn me into a quivering werck... I was out yesterday lamping and got back to clean my rifle, I have made do so far untill I can go and pick up a new cleaning rod (the one they gave me doesn't fit the brushes) and sling, with a pull through made from 50lb fishing line, works fine as it gives quite a good fit with a whole patch. anyways, I went down with 2 solvent patches and then with a dry patch, but the patch got stuck in i think the area where the case narrows at the neck as it wasn't lubricated, so I got the oversize cleaning rod (whi

well, I did, and I got 3 rabbits from 6 shots, the main problem was the lamp, just couldn't see far enough... I was only able to keep one as the other two were body shots- one from the front and one from the side fairly close about 15/20 yd, it looked fine, but it turned the insides into swiss cheese yuk! so I couldn't be bothered to fart arse around at 12 o'clock at night cleaning the damn thing so I just gutted the one head shot one and gonna skin it in a mo..... overall very pleased! also could have got one or two fox cubs but I couldn't ID them well enough in the lamp...

well, hopefully if this poxy wind dies down, tonight!! I'll just use my airgun lamp- it works fine out to 50-60 yds or so.... as well as the good glass I might see a bit further.. we'll see!
