  1. cant you channel them on to your crossing with some netting then they have to use it ??? Good idea...
  2. An area I ferret in the winter has a lot of rabbits in a wood that cross a stream to get out onto the field they feed in, this is a man made stream, and its actually an outlet from a milking parlour, only recently added, any time theres rabbits in the field and you go in, they run down the bank and up the other side, sometimes it awkward for them to get up and they slip and struggle when its wet, Would making a wooden crossing, with a drop box on the bottom work? Or would they just keep using there route of down one side and up the other, I was thinking of there was an easier way across for th

  4. I got that book from the man that sold me the first 2 ferrets I ever owned, about 15 years ago...I remember reading it then and thinking how great it was....I often wondered why my snares never worked though! I thought I was crap at snaring, but it turned out HE was crap at it!

I know what you mean...Its maddening when you take people out and they have no respect for your gear, Its hard to get anyone to go along that gets out of bed on time, is actually half interested and doesnt piss about and has a bit respect for your gear and ferrets...Thats why I most always go alone!
  6. That one is nothing compared to the one I got at 36.5lb....It was a brute of an eel & I didnt get a picture,The guy that took the picture fishes at the same spot an odd time, But I havent bumped into him yet unfortunately.

  10. It doesnt matter too much about the sitting anyway, as long as she is staying, thats all I need really, the sitting thing was just annoying me because she wouldnt do it, but would do everything else!
  11. Maybe someone with more experience can help me with this as Ive been pondering it for sometime... I ferret in a huge piece of ground in the winter, theres so many warrens connected, It takes a lot of work...Its normally as many purse nets, long nets and shooting as much as I can, although its not always easy shooting between running to a long net and grabbing purse nets, Anyway Ive always wanted to Longnet it at night, But Im wondering if its even possible? Every warren in the field is so tight and usually connected, there doesnt seem to be anywhere where they actually feed except arou
  12. I'd agree with dogman89, I know a guy who breeds racing greyhounds and he says they sometimes find it uncomfortable to sit like other dogs normally would. My 3/4 greyhound pup will sit on command but she often rolls her legs to one side and sits on one of her hips, and then quickly moves into a lying position. Not to worry, it sounds like you're doing a great job with your dog if it does stay/heel/down, that's more than most dogs I know atb, JL Maybe it is uncomfortable, becuase if I make her stay for any length of time, she lies down flat....Probably thats what it is.
  13. Thats exactly what I was doing....Doesnt work, She just looks at me!!
  14. Just like your doing in your avatar picture....
  15. You'll have a good laugh at this, But thats my dog Ruby in the corner...Ive had her for a couple of months, shes a few years old, And in that time Ive got her to do a lot of stuff, Some of the things she was maybe taught before, so its not down to me, But she picks things up brilliantly, even playing dead! I just do it for the fun as she enjoys all the fuss anyway...But of everything, she will not sit! I have tried and tried and tried every way I can find on you tube and in books, But she just wont do it, theres no need for her to do it, but I just wanted her to learn it, as she will stay and
  16. Id say my dog eats less than him! You will have to take one now.... ooh, would be good to get more of that blood into my stock, but I think I am full for now. One clutch of banties a week old and setting some more tommorrow. Maybe if I can get my kennels sorted over summer I could make some room haha. That ypur dog in your avatar picture, looks strong, how is she doing? Shes doing brilliant, you couldnt ask for a better dog, Im very glad I got her You'll have some team for next year! Ruby looking well. Benny, Am I glad I got her, Id say you will

  20. Cheers, just bought a copy off Amazon should have it in a few days. Cheers. More people should be buying this book, reading the book it is obvious to see that Martin King is not only an absolute master of the Long Net and is very passionate about it, he is a great writer and I hope it is not the last run from the printing press he brings us.
  21. I might leave them where they are....The last thing I want to do is thin them too much, I want to leave some sport for september, I wouldnt be at it only the farmer has been on my back!
  22. I set a few snares last monday morning and the count up until this evening was 33, But I noticed after the middle of the week the kills where slowing down a lot, but there is still a huge amount of rabbits on the ground, is it better to move them onto other runs frequently?
  23. We bought all the timber and mesh sheeting from wicks and cost us around £280 so wernt to bad. JoeD £280.......A bit steep?? You could have bought a good size treated garden shed and put a mesh side in it for less....
