  1. I have read that food poisoning is a big killer of kits, Meat left anytime in this heat will soon go bad, and as you said, they hide food in the nest which gets worse and then kits eat at it...
  2. I had a mole job in a garden last week and i'm guessing we are talking about the same very large company who had quoted £375 to gas the moles (which incidentley was working only 6' from the house). This chap was so pleased when I told him it would be £ he gave me an extra £20 to get myself a pint or two. Although i definitely agree with what you are saying about some of the prices (and dodgy surveying) from the big companys i cant help but think that some guys are selling themselvs short still? yes the big companys can charge crazy prices and the reason they can is that people pay th
  3. The last few days, some of my snares have rabbits with a small hole eaten in them and the inside looks as if its been sucked out...A fox usually disappears with the whole thing and leaves me a head, and the feral cat on this ground if he's around will usually have a chew at it and leave it.
  4. It seems to be that you either get on good at Long Netting and thoroughly enjoy it, or its a disaster and you end up hating it and never doing it again.
  5. Tuck it under your arm and stretch out and where it would fit into the palm of your hand, thats the length for your size, this is from Molecatchers book That is for the traditional set net. Pre set systems use longer pegs approx 30". TC I stand corrected

  7. Ive never heard of it before...Sounds interesting...Anybody know anymore about it?
  8. If shes turn out half as good as the older dog I have now, She'll be doing well...Although the older dogs training wasnt my doing, she was already in full flight when I got her.
  9. This is Molly, 7 weeks old, She's Nearly a whippet, with a bit of collie and greyhound, I dont know how to work out the fraction bits, Her mother is 1/2 whippet, 1/4 greyhound, 1/4 Collie and her father is a coursing whippet - I had no intention of getting another dog, But I gave a few kits to the breeder sons as they where out with me a few days last year and wanted to start ferreting, so she insisted I took a pup...She really had to twist my arm
  10. Isnt it possible just to use the oxyen tank though? Empty it and have it refilled with BREATHING AIR???
  11. Although it does come down to the amount of tension you can put on the running lines when setting the net. The more tension you can put on the lines the further apart you can set the pegs. That said if i were expecting a big bag I would go down to 4 yards even. As you will be surprised how much even 3 rabbits hitting a net in a short distance will pull the headline down. TC True...if there too far apart, even one rabbit rolling over in the net when hes caught will pull the net quite low to the ground....
  12. I wrote it last night, I was having a good think about Long Netting and it sort of came together
  13. Fat-Ferret, You have captured the essence of long netting. It's not about numbers, its about being out there and doing it. One rabbit can give as much pleaseure as 20, even more pleasure sometimes when it is really hard won from a difficult set. I think there are two types of long netter, the ones that do it for the pure pleasure of the sport and the ones who just see it as another method in their armoury. I cannot begin to describe the pleasure I get from a couple of drops of the net. TC Definitely, I enjoyed nights better when I came home with one or two....rather than t
  14. He makes his way through cold dark fields, the wind his only friend Coney thoughts upon his mind, will he get one at the end First pin in, lines pulled tight, he walks with skill and care But little does Old Netter know, if Coney he is there He bants the field, and crosses back, old netter starts to run For the squeal of Coney he can hear, at least he’s now got one Indeed its there, he feels it move, supper has arrived He hanks his net, and hazel pegs, for one Coney he has strived But none the less does Old Netter care, for it’s the gift of which he was taught To work by night wit
  15. There is just something I enjoy about it more than anything else, Of course I enjoy ferreting, snaring, trapping, shooting....But as I said, there is just something about Hazel sticks with a 50yrd hanging on them...and banting the field, trying your best to take your time and all along wondering whats going to be in the net when you get there! And even more than that, you can come and go, and nobody ever need know you where there, no trace....Ye olde Long Netter!
  16. You wont need 11, You'll find you probably will use 8 at the most
  17. I was just wondering, how long on average it would take someone (I suppose it varies on there experience of it) to sew a long net, add the salvedge mesh etc & fully complete it.
  18. What do most Long Netters on here prefer to use...Quick set, Traditional with fibreglass, or Traditional with Hazel? I have been learning a lot about Long Netting and doing a drop or 2 any night possible over the last while, I used a traditional with fibreglass poles, with some shrink tube on them to grip the line, a quick set also with fibreglass rolled up in my hand, then one with a basket and more recently, I put together a 50 yrd and used hazel sticks...Just in honour of tradition! And I have to say, After using Hazel for a few times, I think I will stick to a traditional Hazel set ne
  19. Looks a good job Benny, You'll have no bother tracking down any this year!
  20. Theres a pin pointer fiasco thing on the MK3m as well
  21. Theres always a few holes you cant see as well, so have a good hoke around, because as soon as you think you think all the holes are covered, a rabbit will come out of nowhere and be across the field before have time to blink
  22. I dont think Trammels are worth the trouble, But then I Long Net to Long Net, not for pest control, Then maybe if its pest control you should use one.
