I'm looking to get a basket, And can't make my mind up over the options. Well actually I have ruled out making my own - It would be a disaster and probably weigh in as much as me. Just wondering what are you folks thoughts on how the available ones work in practice.

He's sound bloke by all accounts. Don't forget we all got find a way to pay the man.

I too hope there is a happy ending to this, though NOT for your cousin .

WH you certainly have an eye for the composition. keep them coming.

Mike, fair point and probably one for another thread. I think maybe bit too much of a sweeping statement there from me. But the gist of what i am saying is still true. The owner plays a very large part in how a dog is going to turn out. Actually thinking about it is also fair to say that people with experience and or a good head on their shoulders get themselves a dog that has the potential to be a performer. But then you could say that that is the owner having an input at the very begining. I 100% agree with you that for people just coming into the running dogs it is an uphill str

Horses for courses And whilst you CAN"T make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. The biggest factor in whether a dog is Great or not is the person behind the dog. They enter and train the dog, they expose it to hunting. Sadly MOST folks are damned well LACKING and is more wasted potential in dogs out there then there is great dogs.

selling a dog no. buying a puppy would depend on many things.

What was a chain harrow doing inbetween stubble fields? Genuine question Maybe to stop people driving over his fields? Generally why farmers leave things in gateways. Do it round here as a matter of course.

That is heart breaking. Dogs give us their all, no questions asked. I hope life comes down on those arses, I wish them nothing but bad luck in everyday of their lives. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FO LEAVING A DOG LIKE THAT. NONE WHATS SO EVER
-
what on earth made you ask such a daft question? Did you honestly think you could hunt them? Do you have any idea about how few there are left in the wild? Seriously, you really need to ask youself what you are doing. Either start taking the sport seriously and learn about things. OR Feck off and buy a playstation.
-
that is f***ing unreal. I'd like to tie whpever did this up and leave them. Question is how many people drove by and did nothing? I am saddened by the world we live in.

I really wouldn't worry too much. Just keep exposing her to as much as stuff as possible. Also if she acts scared then just ignore her. If you console her or comfort her then she will doi it again because you have rewarded her for showing that behaviour. It is just the same as why a lot of dogs are gun shy. Gun goes off, dog shocked owner comforts and pets dog. Before long gunshy. If you can get yourself along to some puppy classes all the better. you dog will soon be comfortabe with dogs and other people. (unless you are wanting your dog to shy away from strangers......

Hope it gets turned over. BUT right now don't think conservatives could win an election. EVEN though historically we are at the highest level of taxation EVER. With Feck All to show for it. Labour get another term and you can get rid of your pounds and pence and say hello to the Euro. The only up side is that with everything else going tits up the police will be too busy to watch whats going on in the fields.

What a waste of the courts time. This country really sucks when it can dedicate resources to this but lets, idiots post happy slappings and vandalism on Youtube. where will it all end?
-
There are some great pics there. Your dog is shaping up nicely. He is still young though and I don't think he will really shape up for a few months yet. One day you are going to look at him and think, Feck where did all that muscle come from. He is certainly getting an excellent education in things, keep it up.

What and an address and directions to the covert, how many birds put to wood, security etc Dream on . . . OTC

Take time to think about what you want the dog to do. Also try and be honest and look at you, what sort of person you are, personality, patience levels. To be honest it doesn't really matter what dog you choose (to a degree), what matters most is how you and that dog get on. some crosses gonna need a lot more input from you to become what they have the potential to be. EG if you are not the patient typ[e avoid a dog with a lot of collie in. They can be real button pushers and get really test the patience. So require a lot of patience. Whatever dog you get I wish you all the best
-
Patience and then more patience. Stick at what you are doing. Just work on basic obedience and stock breaking. Get him exposed to as much as you can, working on getting him used to anything that might crop up from cats to gun fire. Depending on his character it could be quite some months before he needs to much else. This season, take him ferreting, let him get used to the idea that the ferrets are gonna provide him with sport. good luck with him.

what percentage of collie do you recommend?
Sorley x replied to fielder's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
A lot would depend on what you will be expecting of the dog. also how much time you can spend with the dog too. If you get a good collie input then you are going to have a very smart dog on your hands. It will need lots of things to do and stimulus, otherwise it will get bored and then you could end up with one or two problems. -
what percentage of collie do you recommend?

Try to avoid too much border collie if you are looking for a sane dog. Go for working stock, take your time and look for the right pup. Happy hunting -
It has really started striking hard here round Cambs/suffolk borders. Coming across swellings and pustules larger than I've ever seen before. The wet mild weather we've had has meant the virus vectors are doing very well and differ strains of mixy are getting spread all over the shop. The result is rabbits are getting hit by strains they've not yet been exposed too. Just hope there is enough of a breeding population left immune that can bounce back quickly.

There are a sh1t load of lurchers abandoned each year. Just because tattooing dogs means that it is likely any tattooed dog will be traced back to him. Enough has been said about the man and what he breeds from. I my personal opinion we are MISSING the root cause. ...... .... THERE IS NOTHING TO STOP IDIOTS BUYING DOGS. It is almost never the dogs fault. People just get a dog on a whim and are FECKING clueless about looking after it. WORSE, they go buy a merle lucher cause they is stunning or any lucher for that matter and then when it hits it teens and is a high eneregy
