first of all on the fox snaring, have they never heard of the little plastic teeler sleeve method i came up with in 1992, also the jump stick method is a bad idea, roe and muntjack will go underneath also the fawns , its really a bad idea and thats from real experience , there is a far simpler method than that to stop deer being neck snared , amateurs. now for the rabbit snaring article as ian mentions, the guy who is doing the snaring is a master . wait for it....... snaring expert , whose snares are set 3 fingers high, snares are not tensioned, loops shaped like fifty pence pieces , hanging

snareman replied to Cryptina's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control

there aint no coon ever made that will frighten a fisher , a 160 conibear in a box trap will sort it out big time , meat from your dead coon will catch him, make sure the bait is far enough in so that it can,t reach in , nail mouth of bucket or box to a piece of 3 inch branch underneath it to elevate the mouth of the bucket from the ground to give it easier access , a 220 kills them also but the 160 gets a good neck strike , as the bigger trap sometimes catches them further along the back. all the best. snareman.

sqeeze a wee bit of lard onto the pin as the mouse can,t take it of it has to lick it , i had 25 straight kills in my other shed , one every morning , using a little wooden trap with a pan that they had to step on, wiped them out , they were coming from under my neighbours shed , the little bast#rds had chewed a hole in my fishing waders , and were even eating my blocks of white trap wax. now they are all happy up in heaven , where all bad little mice go.

badgers eat the lot dont thay? but its happend to my dad when he had a fox a little bit was eaten aswell. or some person got realy hungry and ate it it looks like the work of a badger, normally they eat from the anal region upwards but i have seen them just rip into the dead foxes similar to the dead fox in the picture , in one season the local badgers polished of 45 snared foxes throughout the winter , the carcases were being cleaned up every night as fast as they were put down. looking at the way the skin is missing, around the site , buzzards also eat the dead carcases, i have als

good stuff colin, a picture is worth a thousand words as they say , nice clear close up.

surely the tension built into the snare will do that, you need one of woodga's dvd's, that'll show you, it worked on mine have a point, but when i get some decent snares that will probably be the case. i thought that about the ones im using now cheers stubby paddy forget the sticks , they are certainly not needed on a fence line , select your loop size to corelate with the rabbit run thats coming under the fencewire , if right handed , put your left hand inside the noose, palm facing up with your forefinger under the snare eyelet , and your thumb on top , hold firmly, then

rob, i was coming out the the chip shop the other evening , and was approached by a dishevelled looking fellow who seemed to be down on his luck , i was going to give him a couple of quid , but i smelled the drink of him , he said to me i haven,t eaten in three days , i said to him , my good man , i certainly admire your willpower .
-
pure robbery without violence, 10 silly nooses with hazel pegs that anybody can cut for themselves , 7 pound fifty, plus almost two quid for postage , waken up you people , these could be aquired for half the price from the lads on this site , and you will get a 22 1/2 inch noose , not the shop bought crap . thats about 5 inches shorter , as i,ve said before the only things that the shop bought ones are good for catching , is the mugs who buy them.
-
woodga, i meant to ask you who is that old fella thats helping you with the wires , his face looks familiar.

OH FOR A COUPLE OF GOOD MORNINGS SNARING IN THAT FIELD LAD, YOU LUCKY B#GGER.

cats kill full grown rabbits with relative ease, one winter morning i had eight full grown rabbits killed and half eaten all from the back of the head down, as woodga says, the following morning , there were two culprits waiting for me in the wires , the problem that arises with a feral cat working the location is that it keeps the rabbits in, and the catch rate is lower until the rascal is caught . another morning when dispatching rabbits in snares out in a grass field fifty yards out from woodland , there was a comotion behind me in the rhododendrum bushes at the edge of the wood , next min

out of interest woodga,a farming fiend of mine lost a few lambs.not fox as he keeps them tight. at first he thought badger! but none near his place. but one morning ,may time 5.30 am he witnessed a otter drag a lamb down river bank .he's a honest man what he says is what he seen yup they are nothing more than a big weasel and will kill anything , i,ve seen them killing water birds , and they kill pheasants also , they were even taking the rabbits in the snares one morning , near a river .

if you carry on like that son , we will all have to go to the zoo to see a rabbit shortly . well done. it will only be visitors you will be seeing shortly , and those rabbits will be carrying suitcases .

figure eight the end of the snare wire through the flat piece of square with the two slots that will give you an end loop , thats a shop bought snare , people are still in the dark ages at snaremaking in this country , for an extra penny a crimp could be fitted on the snares to form an endloop before selling them . as i have said many times commercial fox and rabbit made snares , are light years behind professional made snares, for a start some of the nooses for fox are to small , and they also sell ones with a couple inches extra wire which is more expensive , but the crimps pull out , when

put a thread up about 3 or 4 month ago with pictures showing what a otter can do to a cat trap... powerfull aint the word for them ive trapped some really big boys with my pro trapper mate in canada , they might wreck a cat trap but the 220, bodygrip is the boy for them,

scothunter was it alan stewart , from tayside police , or the lad, mckinnon, from grampion police, both are wildlife police officers . i spoke to them both up at scone fair on friday , by the way alan stewart , was an excellent rabbit snarer. alan has already got samples of my breakaway fox and rabbit snares . At a guess id say it was the guy mckinnon i was there on sat and was telling him about it.He did mention the badger was found in a garden in Aberdeen. Was a guy late 30s early 40s really nice copper spoke away no problem was suprised there usually arseholes by the descripti

i snared a place with extremely hard ground , similar to the chalkland you describe, i used 6 inch nails instead of pegs , it worked for me .

peg and gun brought me up a wire tunnel , his idea was very simple , he just cut a couple strands of the wire on the top of the tunnel and pushed it down and bent the ends outwards , then just clicked the trap onto them , no aditions of any kind , pure simplicity.
