  1. why give yourselves all the stinking work and all the waiting, when you can just hang up some salted sea fish heads and offal , and catch every bit as easy and quicker , the americans have some good trappers but they certainly have their share of dumplings the same as we do, who love giving themselves work. the most that i have taken from one bait set with the sea fish over three months in the winter was 40 foxes, no boiling, no stinking smell, and certainly no hard work. the set was made in a 300 yard stretch of woodland bordering alongside a river which was the main travelway, guiding them i
  2. the largest fox held in one of my breakaway snares that i have been told of , was 26 lbs, by a gamekeeper who was using them, i don,t know if the b.a.d. was partly opened , or remained fully closed, i forgot to ask, but its a simple task to add extra strength to the b.a.d. loop, two simple moves can do this . as the g.s. w. breakaway snare is free running , and as i have said before, many non target species have freed themselves from these snares due to the numerous reports i have received , roe deer and badgers have all pulled them open,as they are heavier and more powerfull than a fox , as i
  3. i was looking for another thirty along that fence to go with the one in the picture, what happened mickey.
  4. Not to me their not but I'm not Old bill,anti.rspca.do gooder. ...their still not against the law??? lots of sporting estates all over the country still harbour these artificial earths, they have been around for many decades,
  5. a cracking simple wee stream easy to trap, wish i had a few like that, when i was running a mink line .
  6. he is trying to get us going p and g. showing us those well padded rat runs , they are like motorways. brilliant for snaring with the benders.
  7. i think you mean 2.5 mil. wire, your getting there but its to wide, also you have tapped the base in at the wrong side it should be on the grip side not the main shaft, it should be straight from top to bottom. 2 mil, will do fine, as its only to hold the loop up at the proper height.
  8. yep lad there are many variables to be considered and tried , also loop and different securing systems are all extra factors to be taken into consideration, along with cable length, and b.a.d. poundage,
  9. i,m the guy that designed the all in one unit breakaway fox snare eye, and the breakaway rabbit snare, i also have 42 years fox snaring experience , and 55 years at the rabbit snaring, snares are always being classed as indiscriminate , by the antis, and most of the public who really know nothing about them , thats why i decided to devise breakaway snares, i had been experimenting with them for 12 years , there was a great deal of thought went into these snares , all fox snares should be set with a permanent fixed stop, i used a small 6/ba ,nut as it has very low visibility , also it has threa
  10. yes, trapworks sent me a sample of their breakaway rabbit snares ,and they also have perfected the copper S link, very well .
  11. you will never be out of work when the keepers find out , the eagle owls kill them also.
  12. yes snaring is totally legal in the whole of uk, and ireland, and it does not need to be carried out on a private estate , as long as you have permission , and do not use locking snares, only relaxing free running snares may be used. and check them at first light in the morning , dispatching foxes with a rifle or shotgun.
  13. that is a big fella, like a guinea pig, with a tail, i would love to have got him in a bender.
  14. I'm with Hob and Jill they are great knives in carbon, really sharp and if you don't blunt them completely, you only need to strop them and they are razor sharp again!! Also if you do grind them to the drop point shape they are much better for gutting etc, I also do my opinels in the same way! they are a good knife, i buy mine in canada they have a hardwood handle similar to the opinal handle only they are a cherry red colour , they are usually in three sizes , i bought a large size one for my mate who is a pro trapper out in bc. and he skinned a bear with it no problem he said the steel
  15. that must have been the place that i was asked to go rat shooting three of us shot over 600 in a few hours one night , it was as fast as you could load and fire it was non stop action, there were abnother four lads that used to go up to shoot four times a week they shot all through the night till daylight and used to kill 6000 per week , id did not even make a dent in them. terrier lads used to come and kill athousand at the weekends .
  16. colin, if rolfe has set the wire looking outwards the way that the rabbits are travelling , you will get an accurate setting but he has taken the picture looking from the front of the snare so it can at times look like that as if its a bit overlying, although its set properly.
  17. rolfe why do you do this to me , you, woodga, and teejay, i would die for a good setting on runs like those around those borders , they are deadly for snaring rabbits up quickly , you lucky b#gger.
  18. the same man that made me a pile , how are you getting on boy, big wullie was asking about you the other night , dougie the keeper was asking for you also, so was simon.
  19. good going mick. thats a nice sized vixen , would it not be better if fox cage traps were made a bit higher so that the fox could walk straight in and feel more confident upon entering the trap , by increasing the kill area on snare loops they become far more deadly and cut out the usual problem of avoidance , providing that they are set at the proper height in correlation to the loop size , not setting them at the best practice height like the dumplings suggest.
  20. reading in todays sun the black death has cured 40 taliban permanantly , don,t we just love those rats.
  21. by the way nice going teejay, some lovely big rats in the traps and snares. some really cracking runs , i,ll be looking for ones like that this week , you lucky rascal.
  22. they are hazel whips , cut 4 ft. in length and pointed at one end , look at the top of page one and see how to set them , you will see under gs waters. heading, how to snare rats and rabbits, from the drawings that i have put up, there is also good clear pictures that peg and gun put up , showing the sets in good clear detail. ash, siver birch, and holly and a few more types of whips also make good benders for spring snaring rats .
  23. use approx. a 9 inch loop and set higher around 8 inches to bottom of loop . your rabbit snares were set with a small loop in those snow holes , if out on open trails they need to be larger and set higher , or hang them from branches if going under brush. but keep part of the loop slightlyabove over lying branch to break up outline or chalk part of the loop.
  24. there was 800 rabbits caught testing these breakaway rabbit snares , so the problems were solved, the main problem that you will encounter is buying them from some of the people who copy them and can,t make them properly to my specifications , its the same with my breakaway fox snare eyes , as the young lad says geordie or woodga makes them good. ive have personally seen some of these copy snares for sale , do you wonder why i get pi#ssed of at times . one guy even fitted the breakaway fox snare eyes on back to front ,
  25. tut tut one knocked mick, not like you.
