All true I was in a spot yesterday so I had to fork out 75 Euro for an 18 amp battery. Still, it was worth it with the result I got, but like you say SM we get rightly screwed on prices. the mark up on some of these lamps are over fifty quid , depending on where its purchased , if thats not pure greed what is . my mate got sent a trade catalogue by mistake thats how i found out , i would not entertain them , better sending for all your gear to the usa .a guy who is top class in electronics , was saying he could make these electonic locators for a few quid , and we are charged over a hun

Wouldnt do it intentionally, mink dont mess around! My friend and I were ferreting the flood defence bank, on Beaufront Estate, some 13 or 14 years ago. We were doing well and working our way along when the ferret came out, all fired up! Hairs on its tail like a pipe cleaner! It had also emptied its arse gland and feck, it stank. Wouldnt go back in, and we then noticed a nasty wound- its nose was split in half. So that was that for the day, we guessed it was mink. i,ve bolted big dog mink on a few occasions while ferreting , never ever had them give the big dog ferret any confrontation ,

they are good lamps but are vastly overpriced , the same with the batteries , like everything connected to fieldsports in this country we are robbed to death , the two ive got , one is a 12 volt 10 amp, and 12 volt 7 amp , you will get them for a tenner from guys that work with alarm systems , it beats paying about 40 quid for them .

as ditchy says , PRACTICAL TRAPPING, is quite a good read, but the rabbit snaring section is pure crap.

your right on rolfe, the kids over here are to busy out of it with drink and drugs, and couldn,t make faces never mind a quality trap like that. -
Snareman1234, If you watch a squirrel it sort of moves in short leaps. Now I snare Mink in the winter and often set a snare on logs across the water (stream) as mink like to get close to the water. I have found that it is better to set the snare in a hoop about four fingers. I nail the wire hoop (Fence wire) to the log with staples. You can't use a trap that you use for squirrels if you want to save the pelt. if you look at the above pictures provided by ace trapper , you will see a few squirrels hanging from running poles in bodygrip traps, the same goes for mink caught on log crossings

the breakaway rabbit snare i devised is the most humane rabbit snare used today , it totally eliminates woodland deer being accidentally caught by the feet , it will allow animals heavier than a rabbit to escape , from a wandering cat upwards , it also eliminates any trauma around the rabbits head as the spun in permananent stop , prevents full closure of the loop , and the rabbits sit and graze quite freely , also rabbit snares don,t cut rabbits to pieces, this is total nonsense , and i should know i,ve snared tens of thousands over the years ,rabbits cause untold damage to motorway, and roa

i guess iv always used the ford escort of the catapult world!!! that looks like the rolls royce model!!! how much are they??? a fancy catapult may look good and pricy , and i can,t fathom out peoples mentality they love paying out money , when a home made ash Y is all you need with shrink tubing on the handle , the square rubber for a couple pounds. and it is every bit as lethal , as any over priced buffalo horn . and it is only as good as the man using it . rant over get to it.

The RSPB warden has no rights to enter private land period..... I would write a strongly worded letter of complaint to whoever is in charge of this moron and leave them in no doubt that should it happen again you will bring a prosecution for trespass. Rolfe why don,t you just bait the trap and then wait for him coming over and give the bast#ard a good spanking . like i,ve had to do in the past with a#seholes thats interferes with my snares . big peter the right hand educates them immediately better than any psychiatrist would ever be able to do, and you certainly get their attention f

Snaring, trapping or hunting without permission
snareman replied to Holdaway's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
i think not, you are not going to kill anyone with a snare, and besides we have been indoctrinated over the last century with pure sh#te , from authors and field sport writers about setting snares with small nooses set low to the ground . armchair experts who could write but definately could not snare and each author all copied each others lies, on this site people have been shown how to do it properly , and how to use snares humanely and effectively , also shown new breakaway snares that allows animals from cats upwards to escape if accidently caught they also totally eliminate woodland deer -

E Veniard price list from 1989
snareman replied to comanche's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
all these companies are the same ditchy, they pay the trappers a pittance and they want the huge profits, cut them out and advertise them yourself. -
spray paint your cage traps green, or brown as it is harder for prying eyes to see , same with the spring traps , especially when trapping mink , as a dyed trap does not have the high visible eye apeal , of a shiny spring trap or cage trap .

Provoke Rat attractant has anyone tried it
snareman replied to heart of wales's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Me too Tomo, though, it could be fish based as fish is a pretty good attractor for most predators. It could also be made in the US, or Canada. woodga and i have a really great fox lure that can be made by the bucket fulls for practically nothing, duckwing has tried it , and so has a few of our friends , it drives the foxes mad, they even bite the bark of the trees to get it all off, here is a fox lure that is now being advertised , in an aerosolspray can, wait for it. the price is only 39 pounds 99pence including vat, these people must think that the trappers in UK. are a right bunch of m -

Small chicks as magpie bait
snareman replied to Holdaway's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
holdaway you are only five years late in coming up with the idea , ask woodga , duckwing or ditch shitter . you can buy these in boxes of a dozen from the pound shop , make a nest and sit it in a larsen , with broken egg shells around it , i showed the keeper this trick a few years ago and he had a magpie at lunchtime. there is even another great way to use them. -
