your friend red dog won,t be happy your killing the rats in traps ,he will be wanting to snare them, loves a rat snare old red dog.

ditchy ive trapped them in canada, they had eaten a hole through the mesh , and were in killing all the young steelheads, a 220 bodygrip over the hole put paid to the destruction , the canadians don,t piss about , the trappers are in and the jobs done , but its always the same old adage over here , those who have nothing to pay always have the most to say , its not their livelyhood thats at stake , they are only a big weasel , that kills the ducks seagulls , all water birds , fish and everything else they can get there teeth into .

Mouse Traps - ineffective ...
snareman replied to Tis TM's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
put a small cover over the trap pan, similar to the modified pro. victor, and you guide the head in one way , and you will get a neck strike every time. -
so out of all the members that have looked on here , there are so far only 4 pro,s , i,m retired so i can snare every day
-
you would be better using 220 bodygrip traps , and killing them , in a bucket , i have used these a lot ,along with the egg trap stapled to a tree , and cage traps , i have some good pictures of coon caught in egg traps , and the damage that they have done to peoples lawns , we don,t have raccoons over here except odd escapees of which have been snared and trapped , my old mentor sandy livingston snared one 40 years ago , my brother inlaw,s brother killed one over twenty pounds in his hen house , i saw one a few years back while fishing a local river, it was a big boy , it was spotted 2 miles

they are alright beagles you will catch rats with them , i was using a lot like that last week , plus some single and double stainless steel wires , got a lot of good heavy big rats , never took a tape measure with me, so thats null and void with ditchy,s rules .
-
some times otters get caught in these types of traps also, along with mink,

use the hoop snares if you can get them into the ground , on open areas along the top set your snares on middle of the beat, at the normal height 6 inches , when you set out on open runs on grazing grass , you must set each run according to conditions , 6 1/2 is the minimum i set , sometimes you have to set a bit higher, i don,t use hazel tealers , as their days are gone , they were alright and my mentors used them , then when the double wire tealer came on the scene developed by a scotch rabbit trapper all the sharp cookies used them , my old mentor mcmasters developed the single tealer , as

what you say is true i have actually , witnessed 3 old doe rabbits attacking a big stoat that was after a small rabbit that sqealed they were very fast and jumped round kicking the stoat with their hind feet , it was not long in departing from the scene , sometimes the fox will kill them and leave them lying , watched a buzzard catching a stoat one day while i was snaring rabbits , it just did not grip it riight and the stoat was squirming trying to get around for a bite at the biird , and the buzzard flew to a great height and dropped it , then dived after it ,

very nice , it looks really smart,

go onto the pinned section at the top of the main page , and you will see rat snaring by gs waters how to set the benders in detail along with the snares , you will also see good clear pictures of the snaring methods put up by peg and gun, i wouldn,t bother with fishing monofil line as they will bite through it , either use two strands of brass rabbit snare wire , stainless steel , or trace wire , anything that is thin and strong and runs fast. according to matt the rat , thier necks will be broken and therefore will now be able to bit thru anything And according to Moley a rubber ele

I'll bet that works a bloody treat too! As the nature of the wolverine was once explained to me, in regard to trapping him; " His vile tempered nature just gets the better of him! ". Seeing 'another' in a den, I can well imagine ones reaction! i,ve known about mirrors for a long time ditch, and it works quite well , they certainly are a handfull , but the 330 bodygrip certainly sorts them out.
-
the mirror is also used in canada to trap wolverines in cubbies ,

duckwing, this is a dead easy one , i,ve had to do the same type of removal jobs over the years in exactly the same type of bunkers that you speak of , i,ll show you how to snare them in the bunkers as they are hidden and out of site down in them , i,ll give you a pm, to let you know the quickest and easiest snare sets to take them . i,ve had as many as 7 out of one bunker alone , and nobody seen or heard a thing.

you can set snares anywhere there are runs , i snare them running up the vertical faces of dry stone walls at times its quite easy onece you gain experience . and you don,t set snares between the beats , you set them right across the middle of the beat . snareman how do you set up a snare in the middle of a field? do you use a wire hoop or a stake and tealer or what? why don,t you go onto the pinned section and read what has been put up about snaring and you won,t need to be continually asking these questions
-
tomo, i,ll pm you

have any of you lads seen the rabbit snaring on you tube , what a load of rank amateurs , it would bring tears to a glass eye , and shop bought rabbit snares for sale on ebay, will they ever learn, they are as bad as bear grylls he was trying to snare rabbits with para cord , the loops were hanging like wind blown larches , and drunk men, and these are survival experts .
-
why don,t you lads give us peace, your always greetin if one gets something past the other , look at all the wire and traps that you got for nothing woodga , plus 20,000 brass eylets , you will be wanting the keys to my shed next , i saw you looking at all the traps when you were up , if you ask duckwing nicely he might cross your palm with some.

set your fox snares higher ten inches minimum to bottom of loop in open ground and 12 inches in higher grass , weeds, etc. to many people set their fox snares and rabbit snares far to low ,

teejay , are there rats near where you caught the rabits , because they usually eat them around the face , and eat the eyes out , also the the stomach area , but its not a good close up to see properly , as the badger usually eats out from the back end , all the way up , and you are normally left with the flat skin and paws , somtimes ive only seen bits of rabbits left although it was badgers that ate them, all the best mate , teejay, you forgot to cut the briars back this is amust as they will climb onto them and bite through the wire at times , leave of that beer as your to fat , your ne

whats wrong with my snares
snareman replied to snareman1234's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
on the drawings i put up on squirrel snaring , i specifically said 4 1/2 inches high to the bottom of the noose with a 4 inch noose , why are you setting two fingers high with a small noose , as thats a thicker pole that your using so they are going to run higher ,make sure your loop is sitting centred on the pole also. another thing is your wire must be pliable and runs fast . -
Got mine from a charity shop, bloody fantastic, couple of zip pockets inside which I keep a small torch knife and pliers. Not bad for 75p ! i got some old postbags for nothing , imagine spending all that on a bag to carry rabbits .
