  1. I occasionally may use a foot trap. My most common way of trapping possums is to set snares on propped poles or sloping branches. I use a lure to attract the animals to the trees where the snares are set. I also might use the occasional baited cubby... and this may become more common when I trap in areas where there is a lack of suitable trees in which to set pole snares. Although I haven't trapped a lot of hogs, I do use bait in a big swing-door cage trap.... or I may place bait/lure somewhere near a snare on a trail. In my attempts to catch stoats, I use a steel clap-trap (a
  2. theres not many mink there , and we have plenty big mink over here that can go to 61/2 lbs.
  3. i,ve used steel pins to hold gate nets up and 8 inch ones to secure net , alan salmon has lovely lightweight ones on his longnets with rubber handles , wood is the norm on ferret nets , although you can use what you like best , fibre glass is good on longnets also .
  4. the yellow line should be in front of the first rabbit , as its front feet are landing on the first half of the beat , thats why the snare loop is set directly over the middle of a small beat , as rabbit,s back feet come down along side the front ones his feet are under the loop and his head is in it and caught as he leaps to next beat , ive seen it happen on numerous occasions , the rabbit is caught so fast it happens in a fraction of a second . hope this helps.

  11. stoats are usually caught in rat snares if going under a briar or a weed , out in open runs they run far higher , even higher than a squirrel , and a squirrel runs higher than a mink along wooded streams , on saying that i,ve snared two stoats around the body in rabbit snares set at 6 1/2 inches with the big noose set on the middle of a beat , and snared a large dog mink at the same height one morning in a pegged wire , on a rabbit run in a grass field , along with the rabbits , it was clean round the neck , and wasn,t to pleased to see me , i,ve also snared stoats in 4 strand rabbit wires se
  12. it was the british who invented this type of trapping and we are masters at it and get dozens at a time , and over a 100 crows at a time in our cage traps ,

  14. to set a little 25 yard net on 4 poles should take 10 seconds , i can run a 100 yard net in under 2 mins. just practice son and you will do it no problem .snareman to set a little 25 yard net on 4 poles should take 10 seconds , i can run a 100 yard net in under 2 mins. just practice son and you will do it no problem .snareman or if you mean to add the poles onto the net then that is different if you nave never done it before it will take you longer, if you know anyone that uses a long net ask for assistance as its easy enough .
  15. the small orange bands are the type used on lambs tails , any sheep farmer will have them or shepherd , i purchased a good few bags of rubber gromets at the local market , they cost a pound a bag and held 30 gromets in each bag . snareman
  16. frost won,t help , wait till the weather breaks and becomes fresh , also learn to keep your snares neat and tidy , they are lying there like drunk men , and do not disturb the rabbits if you are going to snare them , give them peace , two,s a start just practice and you will become better and more confident ,
  17. i have used them to snare coyotes in western canada, they are deadly , but im afraid they are illegal in the uk. snareman does that make rat snares with a hazel spring illegal to same princible not with rats it doesn,t. i have used them to snare coyotes in western canada, they are deadly , but im afraid they are illegal in the uk. snareman does that make rat snares with a hazel spring illegal to same princible not with rats it doesn,t.your not going to kill any domestic pets with a spring hazel whip and a single strand of rabbit wire and a 2inch loop , a coyote power snare is
  18. Just a few rats mate,..oh,.and a wild Polecat,...which is now in with a pretty little silver bitch.... gatenetting at night is a great way of catching hares for the dinner , no marks on the carcase , the snare is also deadly , especially the hoop snare , gatenetting is a great and quiet method to catch hares , especially for to eat as there is no marks on the carcase , giving a lower ph. in the meat , than in a snared one .
  19. snareman how would you set this snare on this run i wouldn,t use those type of snares , i don,t like them , and i would set the run with relative ease .
  20. can,t beat the wires mate , working 24 hrs. saves dressing up like a japanese sniper , to go lamping , and a lot cheaper and very effective , my own opinion,
  21. wouldn,t be bothered with all that work and then all the digging , you can catch them quicker and easier than that , and even lots more than you will get in a box , with a little thought , and its not with snares , if i showed this simple method , every rabbit box in the country would be obsolete practically overnight, the only person i showed this method to was woodga , and he could not believe how its never been thought of before ,
  22. take your snare of the the gate and set it further back in the woodland , and don,t set your snare like that , set it across the the way with a bigger loop , although i think you will be struggling , with those shop bought snares , i wouldn,t use them if the flung them at me , set your wire higher , minimum 10 inches , .
