  1. Stryki was stopped from being used on moles around 5 yrs ago, (killed pretty much in an instant) and will kill again if a dead animal is eaten. Any bromide based baits will be weakened bigtime, and coud be eaten, ( maybee with slight side effects!) But wouldn't recommend it!
  2. Class answer, and thanks for the fact and figures. I've kept them in clean cages, through the season, without mating, and never had one get ill in a lot of years. Have heard they do, but never seen it myself. How much is a ferret worth to you? Taken my best in the past to the vets, when they start mentioning big bucks for things, (I.e open stomach to remove a bone at £200) then you have to draw a line. (A dose of liquid parrafin shifted it!) We all want the best for our critters, but sometimes we have to be realistic about the cost of things!
  3. I think there are two distinct types, the sheer frustration, like the dog is swearing,(at the point of missing). And secondly the cry for help, cause it's beat already.(Yapping throughout.) They come from 2 different types of dog, (not breed, or type). Cannot explain it in words.
  4. Crikey lads, have you seen the sheet the mods have to put up with! Good on you for the positive attitude!
  5. Will get some pics of my tribe of hobs when she gets home from the gym! These are two of this years hobs, got another two hobs off the same litter. Only got bit once then! Thing are improving! Will try and get a piccie against something to scale tommorow, they look bigger in the piccie than they are! Here's the other 2!

Cannot even read about in the papers, and have to switch off the news on the radio and tv when it comes on. Hope it never happens again as long as i live.
  7. I actually meant you will have you're messages full with lots of lads wanting to go hunting with you! Sure there will be a good few lads around there like Bosun said! Wish I was 10 yrs younger!
  8. Crikey you have asked for trouble there!
  9. Those wires are in the red sky/morning shots and the horse shots! Are they just outside the back door or something! Nice piccies by the way!
  10. We've all been there, landowner is the boss in the end. From your situation, longnetting in the dark would be the best option, alongside snares. These critters must be moving out at night to feed, so probs before midnight is the time, pick a breezy dull night (no moon) and see if you can longnet the best sides of the warren under as little light as possible. LITTLE LIGHT! bag of carrots job! Then push them back into the net.
  11. Many rabbits bolt for a second time after being run, ferreted or shot at. And also a few stay put after this, never going out again. The spade sorts this out, many old boys would dig far more than a 2 ft tube out for a bunny and there ferret. Digging is part and parcel of rabbiting, bolting them is easy bit!
  12. Just caught up on this, superb insight into life and hunting over there! Wish we had the same attitude over here! Keep it coming fellas, much appreciated!
  13. That's correct, there were different types of the mark 1. Got a couple, but don't know the difference?
  14. Very similar to the dog I saw working as a kid. Superb nose (as expected), came back with long retreives (as expected), but missed one too many! Nice dog though! Just another thought, maybee breeding it back again to some leg might give it a bit more? Lots of dogs for nothing but an experiment though!
  15. Bit too slow, go for a true lurcher type that has come through the ranks. It would be a real usefull marker, but not snappy enough to match a true lurcher.
  16. Thanks for that, if it's so deep then the snares and the traps would be a good option! (Allthough no fun!) It's only a matter of time before the place gets complicated with ferreting. Use this place as a year in, year out top up for everything that surrounds it. We have a few places in the hills of the dales like this, rock holes, and ghyll side's. Only gassing will wipe these out. (but not in the rock holes!) Part and parcell, we cannot get everything. (But that comment sickens me!) Keep at it, thats why they are there! Edited after reading no shooting!
  17. An awesome display there! Cracking bag, the photo say's it all! Nice little bitch there, looks a lot like our dogs, a propper rabbit dog! Keep up the good work!
  18. 4 Yrs old and got taken out rabbiting in the dales around Malham, was a lot around then. Still remember looking out of the back window of the landrover, driving out of the back of Settle on our way there. Still think back everytime I travel on the same road. Had a few rabbits that day, only had a lab then, but also got to shoot at shotgun for the first time, at 4 yrs old! Tin can on the rock didn't stand a chance! (an older lad around 7yrs old who came with us missed!) Old fellas laughed a lot! That was my start, not moved on much since!
  19. Feel for you a lot, lost our old/main dog 4-5 weeks ago. Nothing fills the void, and nothing can step into the shoes. He had his leg pinned and plated, came back, got nearly finished off by a T##t of a rotweiller, he came back. You try to not get that attached, knowing they are working dogs, but it's the work that get's you attached. Any working dog has it's days numbered as soon as it's born, but they are good days, the best days. Sorry for you. John.
  20. And the tiny washer that goes missing if you sneeze! Wondering the same myself this weekend. (i know it's deep when i don't hear the quiet knocking sound!)
  21. Thats one thing i'd like to know, do the rabbits just bolt across the warren and drop back in, or run for cover else where? Like young Will said, the purse nets can be usefull, for thinning out the surface runners if they are dropping back in.
