  1. I'll try the spray first, but like you said stealthy, the brass pinion should we call it? looks like it has been machine clamped on. (could not see this when looking by eye, only in the piccies). Will pull another box apart now and look!
  2. Bugger the jills mate, i'll freeze to death waiting for them to get things moving! Think i've peaked with the casting anyway Andy, 283 yards will take some beating!
  3. Don't know about the quickset, but i'm not too slow with the old longnet. Depends on the length of it, but work on having a pole every 5 yrds. Peg in your longnet at one end of where you would like it to start from, (when i pick mine up i put it back on the peg, with one arms span of net, top and bottom lines.) so drop it off evenly to the end and peg in. Drop off your poles/sticks at 5 yrd intervals, or at any point where the ground rise or falls, you need the bottom line pinned to the deck hard so nothing can get under it. Then start from one end, give the bottom line one turn around th
  4. That looks like the sort of stuff that could help cheers. I've tried brake cleaner and wd on it, but it's still the same. Might give that stuff a go. Have you tried it? If not does anybody know's how this comes apart (without the use of a big hammer!)
  5. Might have a look at that stuff, never seen it cheers george. Don't think i have any tips to be honest after today! Maybee stay in bed tommorow!
  6. Sound tips, whats the loft insulation made from though?
  7. Right, after many years of great service, and a couple of overhauls as well, our last mk1 box is giving up the ghost! This is the last one of three that was overhauled probably 7 yrs ago by deben. It's got to the point where i'm missing the tube now when digging, as the queit knocking sound is sometimes not working, throwing out the reading. And i'm somebody that need to know where i'm digging to! (not into bolters and netting up to be honest!) I like to tinker around with things, and having a good look round inside the mk1, i think the problem can only be the mechanism underneath the dia
  8. The ferrets are not racist's are they!
  9. Still using the mk1 (but shortly this will have to change, it's getting a bit patchy on the dial). We always leave the collar's screwed and taped up, the battery lasts well on these, maybee only needing changing once a season. How long do they last if unscrewed all the time after a session?
  10. Thanks for the post, nice read and piccies as usual!
  11. Big well done to both of you, and a good win Tomo. What strikes me more than anything is the true sportsmanship in this comp. Your all a credit to the world of running dogs!
  12. Set off from home this morning at 7am, thick freezing fog most of the way there, read -5 on the truck's thermometer! Glad there was no wind to go with it! As we got closer to our land, the fog cleared leaving a bright and sunny, but cold and frosty morning! Called in to ok things with the farmer, and made our way up there for around 8.30am We were going on an area today we have not been on this year, it usually holds good numbers of bunnies, so we set off with high expectations! Within minutes, we had our first mark, which resulted in me getting the blade going as usual, resulting in one
  13. i would shove some shredded paper in as well if there scraping all the shavings into the bed area Might well do that Kay, cannot harm them. (they were doing it all summer as well though!) Like there comfort's i think!
  14. I start off with 2" of shavings in the bed area, and about an inch in the cage, Shortly after i end up with around 7" in the bed area and none in the cage! Never happy are they! I've used sealed bagged straw and hay from pet suppliers, and found the critters with ticks on them shortly afterwards. (not even been out!) A good bed of shavings will do i'm sure!
  15. No probs mate, hope to catch up with you again when i'm not busy with the digging! Have a good one yourself pal!
  16. Must admit, when i do use nets, the nylon one's allow you to put yer feet up at the end of the day. I've had enough after putting the critters back in there cages and feeding them, never mind hanging nets up as well! But I don't rely on them as much as most folks!
  17. Thats what I'd be using for sure if i had the buggers dissapearing of the finder! Suppose i'm lucky really, don't have too many deep one's. Oh by the way, i filled it back in, never to be dug again!
  18. Just get out there and try it, we do! Sometimes we come back early if it's really bad, but relying on a forecast is a sure fire way to end up wishing you had gone out! The animals deserve it, the season is short enough nowadays!
  19. Next April mate, the hobs if not kept with the jills, will try sometimes to grip the Jill out of season when put together, but they usually end up getting a battering for nothing, and give up shortly after. Like it's been said, the hobs will try sooner than the Jills coming into season. But should be fine till the end of the rabbit season.
  20. Lot's of sense bieng talked here, not got much to add, the points of, a dog bieng unfit, how commited he is, and physical make up all play a part. Only bit i can add, is when a dog gets past it's peak, but is still commited, then the odd accident happens. Most dogs pick up injury's through hard work, having a little more bone structure has to help in the prevention of picking up serious one's.
  21. They are great little dogs as you know. If the bunnys are there they will do them.. we will have to sort a trip out.. It's not just the trip out mate, that's what i'm saying. It's the long haul! I'm sure the whip's would nail everything I bolted no probs. Probably before the collie grey's had blinked! But sooner or later, that yelp is going to come when your back is turned, and that sickening feeling where you don't want to turnaround. A trip out would show just what i and yourself know, they are superb dogs on the right ground, but how would a season up in the wind. rain, snow, rocks, rus
  22. They all look like coiled springs about to burst out into 100 mph runs! They're really nice, fast looking, whipper snappers! These dogs (the right one's) will outrun any grey, X ,whatever, on the first burst. Spectacular run's as well from the gutsy little dogs. (And i like them a lot!). Are they up to a full season's ferreting in the hills, taking an average of 40 bunny's a day over the season, twice a week? I do like the whippets a lot, the ability to make something out of nothing is unreal. But we are not on a track when hunting. The ground can finish the best of the stronger dog
  23. Must admit, the Russel looks good! Like the little buggers a lot!
  24. Hang on! Injury and stress to the tick? Don't really care about that! Never seen a russel scream and whimper as much as mine with a tick stuck just above his tail, on his arse end! Thought my hands were about to be taken off! The diesel and white spirit works. not had anything go down with any other symptons.
