  1. Liking the look of the dogs, Spec the terror, solid looking critter.
  2. Propper little rogues! Sorry lads, does not look like anyone has a straight answer to what the greyhound ferret is, but it does look like it's a small, jill sized, wick, lean little rascal like you lot! Keep up the good work!
  3. No better way of putting it than that!
  4. Me and the old feller run collie greys on rabbits, nothing else, during the day. The dogs need stamina for lots of runs, and a turn of speed to nail them before the runs get too hairy! (Rock edges, and bomb holes). It takes us 3-4 weekends at the start of the season before the dogs are properly in gear, (Speed and stamina). At this point, the food intake is greatly increased to feed the metabolism of the working animal out twice a week. I've seen dogs in the past go out nearly every day, and perform strongly when fit. (but need lots of extra food, and lack that dynamite edge, but only just,
  5. Crikey, they really look like hard critters the racoons, and look like they can mess a dog up! Cheers for the info!
  6. Runforyourlife, is that a few cornish words in your posts!
  7. Superb snaps, do the racoons give a good account of themselves? and can they move swift on the ground?
  8. if your anywhere near poole in dorset then save your money i could lend you some fenn traps, i find companies charge a hell of alot of money for doing nothing as they will only lay poison and after a while if the rats are only consuming small amounts they can become imune to the poison, you should change poisons reguly with the rodents as there imune systems cant keep up with the toxins in them. The poisons need to be constantly topped up, (daily to start with) untill they stop being taken. Only when the rats get a break from some of the better baits on the market, (not being topped up en
  9. how about using a locator to track the ferret! or just use traps or poison the little rodents The traps and poison is far too sensible an idea to use!
  10. That looks like a small ferret to me, how big is it Magwitch?
  11. Rats at this time of year run, like any other time of year run, only if the critter corners a rat will it do it's best, then run, if your jill is dynamite it may end up with a few bites and holes, but then the rats will run!As long as you are sure you can get her out without knocking your walls down, give her a try! (but with a terrier to help!)
  12. Was thinking of a post like this, but then thought i'd better not! From what little understanding i have of the term, it means the smaller faster ferrets, but i think it's just a loose term for a 'wick' ferret. Quite sure a few on here will know as the term has been around for a long time!
  13. Struggling! What would be the best thing to type in to get a response that didn't line up the ferreting section as it is?
  14. Must admit, i've heard the term, but still could not tell anyone what they are! I will look up the greyhound line now.
  15. Yep deepend and throw them in! But cannot see them bieng 10 monthts old, meaning they would have been sprung unto this world in feb (at the start!) Most females are nowhere near in season at this time, but i never rule anything out when it comes to these critters.
  16. Knock the milk on the head, if slightly off it can nail the little buggers. A liquid parrafin dose may clear them of any stomach infections or bacteria.
  17. Awesome critters, and an awesome catch! Hope the creature made it back in the end to produce the next elvers for the next 50 yr generation! Crazy to think, a human generation is only counted as 20 yrs!
  18. Just reading about the insurance under the pinned topic above here, looks like a worthwhile thing to have, do a lot of members have it on THL?
  19. The ferrets you have are probs a lot less than 11 months old if they are this years, they usually drop around late april - june if lined straight away, so probs only 7 months old at best. Go easy on them, the young uns of mine are still pinning me when i least expect it, they will soon grow out of it with daily handling, Just offer up the back of your fist to them when approaching, if's harder for them to bite this, and hurts less when they do than the finger ends!
  20. Did you get any hare's with the shepards then? It is bonkers how so many resources can be called out for things as simple as that, surely there are better things for you and the police to be doing, I think a stern warning would make people think twice about getting there facts straight before ringing the police up, fair enough you see a person in your neighbours back yard, then fair enough call them up straight away, he could be a theif, but out in the fields with no firm evidence it's a different game. Any false call to the 999 services warrants prosecution dose'nt it? Depends what yo
  21. Did you shoot anyone really Mackem?

  23. Cheers for that, i'll give it a good read through. I suppose getting a well written letter together and signed by the landowner is not a great burden really, but it does seem like a case of proving your innocent even before you are found guilty of anything! And only applies to one aspect of society then, surely any law is based around having to have commited a crime to be a suspect?
