  1. Yep, the reaper is stood over him daily now Andy, keep saying it wont be long, but the manky old reptile keeps going, shame he wasnt gone the other day, that slab could have been his headstone!
  2. Yep the rock went back in, just under the sod this time!
  3. As for the terrier, she's stockbroken, but would be a liabilty to herself and the day if let off at present. She is stopping short of the end of the rope when called setting off after bolters, is keeping off the nets most of the time now, so there is a little hope, but as with some terriers, common sense is in short supply, and the drive to get to grips with something would outweigh returning at the end of the day, I could see her doing the dissappearing act at present, either over the hill, or dropping down a rock hole maybee never to be seen again, so until im a bit more sure of the dogs int
  4. Jack you know those rabbits still have to be grafted for even if they are there, RD my old brute of a russel in his day would have dug the rock out for me! And Giro, i would have really struggled if it was 6" deeper, i had to roll it up the side of the dig and out!
  5. And to Chalky, the second the tail goes out of view you know you should not have done it, usualy its 3pm when i do something stupid, not first thing in the morning!
  6. Go on Clipper, will you take me with you mate?
  7. Went out for for a very long walk yesterday on my own, with the little terrier bitch, and two of this years jill kits. Basically trying to cover as much of the high ground prospecting whilst on my own, without the old feller I can move a bit. Last year a few rabbits were starting to show in a few pockets in the second season after the winter wipeout, and I was hoping we would be able to make a light return to the rabbiting we had done for years, but within the first couple of hours, it was apparent that the rabbits and land we had left alone for the last 3 seasons, is in no rush to bounce ba
  8. Brilliant Steve, great to see some cropsafe carnage once again, can i swap my old man for one of your able bodied crew? Looks like you understand the need for conservation, and manage them well. Top Job!
  9. Nothing short of top class, cheers for posting, looks like the poachers missed a couple!
  10. Awesome pics, that is something i am envious of!
  11. Poley or black eyed animals are more prone to it. They are aware and alert. She will settle down, just usually takes a few seasons.
  12. From what i saw of your staffs, they always looked in tip top shape, and doing a working job, even though i'm personally not over fond of the breed, The pup looks a cracker, and i'm sure it will work out fine, keep up the good work!
  13. low b*****ds. What makes you angry is a lot of lads would part with the odd ferret if somebody asked properley. Chris dont know how stuck you are, but i have a couple of large poley hobs that are not getting the graft if they can be of any use to you, but i am up norf.
  14. This is our knobhead of a dog Jed, (The one that recently broke his leg) doing what he does, its one of his faults, but a fault i can live with, and one that cannot be corrected. I have found it in the more desperate of dogs, terrier like attitude. You know where you stand with them, even though they will cause you a few problems along the way. His brother is the polar oppoosite, nice steady head tilting and stops short of the holes like yours Joe. A pleasure to work with. Even with faults, a dog that fills the truck every outing, and gives 100% on every rabbit would stay with me w
  15. Grand looking lurcher there, has it some size to it? Looks bloody wet.
  16. I can give you some collared ferrets as well if you like Gnips!
  17. Looking like handy guard dogs as the feller said.I wouldnt jump a fence to cross a yard with one at home! Aside that, is there any other use for for one of these dogs in britain?
  18. Time will fix it by the sounds of it. If you are really worried then try the vet, but i'm thinking a few days will probs see the terrier come good.
  19. Just remember its more about taming instinct, rather than training a dog.
  20. Nice sensible marking Joe, no daft riving out the holes like one of ours.
  21. As said backfilling would stop a wander, but as much time as you can spend there the better. Try getting your arms down the holes with the finder to maybee get another foot or so down. Entering another ferrt with a collar may help if there has been a problem with the collar, but may end up with the same problem, but tracking as you go might get you there. Good luck feller.
  22. The mini spades are good enough for shallow stuff, and light, the bulldog rabbiting spades are also good for the shallow stuff, ideal for knocking little holes in to maybee 2 foot deep. For the same weight and size as a bulldog rabbiting spade, you can take a real spade around with you though, a decent chopped roundmouth, with enough angle on the head to lift out the loose to maybee 4ft down without having to take out a large hole, just a small round shaft, enough to get your arm, head and shoulders down to draw the rabbit and ferret.
