  7. Today the last bit of our permission was explored for the first time this year. Its pretty high up as the title says, and today was very cold, I would be surprised it it moved above 0 all day, and with the sneaky breeze it cut into you. To be honest, its my favorite bit of our permission, its where I was first taken on the land over 20 yrs ago by the old chap, we have lost a couple of dogs up there, one due to a smashed leg, and another due to a blown heart, both buried up there. Its harsh land. At a glance you would think it was innocent open land, but it has a few nasty secrets that can
  8. Nice to see animals being well looked after, hope to see some working photo's in the future.

  10. Smashing day out Tyla, sometimes it only ends up doing things one way. good result. regards Brim.
  11. Not much to say or show chaps, but out again today as usual, hail or shine. Hit the slopes again, on some land I last got the priveledge of ferreting around 15 yrs ago. We have always had the opportunity of doing it, but one or two 3 foot rocky digs to large fast hobs put my old feller and his buddy off back then. Soft twots. As the numbers dwindle in the usual haunts, its amazing what you can talk a geriatric 72 yrs old into! Even he now can see there is more to rabbiting than running dogs, shallow digs, no nets and easy bolts! Started off slow, with only 1 bolt from a a 20 hol
  12. Without doubt, if i was flying a bird then a jill would be the first choice, even small hobs struggle to hold bunnies, and get away a bit. Sometimes its down the the ferrets mentality though, some engage heavily with the rabbit, and some peck away at them.
  13. Welcome to the world of knockbacks! More often than not you will get knocked back around the areas we hunt, and have hunted. Farmers have got to the point where they are sick of blokes knocking on there doors asking. Dont give up. Be polite, dont hassle them at home, dont pressure them, maybee leave your number incase they ever need a rabbiter. It rarely comes on a plate.
  14. Like it. Dorito,s make all things better!
  15. Hi Zoe, sorry to mess you about but i,ll stand aside and stop being greedy, ive probs enoigh to go at until the season ends, i'm sure one of the young shavers from Lancaster will jump at the chance.thanks, Brim.

  17. Bish bash bosh, Liking the photo's Cookie and crew, wish i could get back in the 40's maybee next year! Keep posting, folks like me still like to see a big bag of bunnies. (Even though i'm not amongst them!)
  18. Easy on the young one's Jai, if they get the back of the hand to early, they will grow up like me digging everything!
  19. Hi guys, managed to get out again today on the slopes, the wind had dropped and it remained dry until we were packing up. Both days have worked out quite well for once! The old one wanted to steady the dogs up on some of the flatter ground before we dropped down, had to agree with him, they had a light day yesterday, so putting two dogs with bags of energy on the slopes which in areas are quite steep and boulder strewn is a bad idea. We spent maybee 45 minutes taking the wind out of there sails before we made our way to the edge. By this time we had 4 in the bag, 2 from ferreting and 2 fro
  20. a few, just going to get the piccies together off my phone.
  21. Could have done with you there again really Andy, sure second time round and a few purse nets your jills would have done the trick! No the daft collies was not barking at all, but we did have an audience from the houses all the time we were doing it! Hope to get over to see you soon mate.
  22. Hi Tyla, we usually dont have many rabbits in the big warrens on the high ground, usually on those we just bolt them to the dogs or dig them, a 6 foot dig is very uncommon for us. Its only cause i knew there were a few in this lowland warren did i go to such trouble netting up, and yes if i was working deep warrens on a regular basis, i'd be doing things different for certain.
  23. Hi Breeze, i think me and Andy had maybee 12 out of it, lucky we lost a few, think thats why there were a few this time, Andy can probs remember more than me, his little poley jills worked there knuts off!
  24. Is this ferreting talk? Or talk about ferreting talk? Hope this aint aimed at my measley bags Ideation!
